If my ban is to stick, Shouldn't all people who exploited +1 glitch in market be banned? In an old guild every member exploited that glitch and basically had a monopoly on selling legendary spirit in market for gems.

#

This differs from my case because in my case I had no idea I was exploiting any in game glitch

Thanks, my above comment seems pretty valid though. The +1 glitch was a clear and intentional exploitation of the market system

# fickle apex No, Rob is very busy I think hehe

It would have been escalated to me, and I've got a hold on answering any of these until that unban sweep is done so I know if it's even an account I need to forward along for a second look or not

uneven lion

reef vine
#

@regal arrow that's pretty much what my practice was in the market when I wanted to post an item at the max 10x price. I never even bothered to check the price since it never even occurred to me that I could be posting "illegal" prices.

I'm still playing ping pong with support's canned messages trying to get my appeal going.

Now for the $64,000 question... Who broke the market pricing in the first place?

uneven lion
#

Although again, it does seem more involved than just "set a high price". QA's tried repro-ing via that method, and hasn't been able to. Same with some server members here, e.g. Reiga

#

Which, in turn, highlights it being more purposeful than something that can be randomly stumbled into, especially consistently

reef vine
#

I respectfully have to disagree with you. I've only really do two types of posts to sell on the market. Either 5 gold under the current selling price typed in manually if I wanted to sell right away, or else I'd hold the increase button down to set it at max price if I didn't mind waiting a while.

Jordan#71237
The support ticket is 306833

uneven lion
#

You're free to disagree of course - I'm just saying what our current views are, and why they are that way (both our testing and the testing of community members).

Reviewing the ticket, I'm not seeing any canned messages - could you elaborate? From what I'm seeing, the discussion has pretty much gone:

"Why was I banned? I didn't do anything."
"Exploiting."
"I just did what the game allowed, I didn't use any bots or third-party cheating programs."
"Yeah, but it's for exploiting the recent market issue, not for any of those things."

Even your most recent reply seems to be asking for more info about how the market exploit worked than anything else. You've asked how to get it lifted, but that's not really an appeal - an appeal would be saying you didn't do the thing and we made a mistake, not just asking us to lift it because you don't want it there. Which you might think would be a given, but you'd be amazed at how many people we ban (chat or game) that ask us to just lift it because "c'monnnnn"

#

From my reading and understanding, you can't really argue you didn't do it if you don't understand what was done to begin with. You can claim it was unintentional, absolutely, but you couldn't really say it didn't happen, right?

reef vine
#

I'm sure you can look at my account and see in not some kind of mastermind cheater. I'm not rich or anything by any stretch of the imagination.

uneven lion
#

Again, you'd be amazed at how often opportunists take advantage of exploits or even randomly do something like try a third-party cheating program on an account they've spent hundreds of dollars on

reef vine
#

Unfortunately, no, I really wouldn't be amazed. I've been around games for a very long time and seen quite the gamut of crazy behavior.

uneven lion
#

Then I hope you can see where we're coming from, and can understand there's nothing personal in us just not taking your word for it that any exploitation was unintentional.

#

I get how frustrating it is. I really do. But I'll remind you that there's currently (well not currently, because it's midnight and it's a manual job) a mass unban going on for people who weren't really exploiting it in a way that mattered, as well as a deeper dive into the exploiting itself and how easy it would have been to do it accidentally.

#

We are taking this seriously, and we are doing everything we can to verify innocence where possible. But it does have to be done on our own findings and the findings of unaffected players attempting to replicate.

reef vine
#

I can understand your side. As the customer that was wronged here, if hope you could understand where I'm coming from. Is there even any evidence that I excited any kind of pattern that would suggest I was trying to exploit?

uneven lion
#

Oh, I can absolutely see it from your side. That's why I'm trying to reassure you that you aren't just getting blown off here - that'd be what I'd want if I was in your shoes (to know I was being taken seriously and to have an actual explanation of what's going on and why it's going that way) so it's what I'm trying to offer

#

As for evidence, unfortunately, that's very much not my area. I'm in charge of our customer support, and in cases like this I act as your advocate (functionally). But I'm not the backend guy doing data dives and pulling info to compare notes. I gather those points and present them for review.

reef vine
#

So do I need to make a more explicit request in my ticket for an appeal?

uneven lion
#

Nah, you shouldn't. It would have gotten it there marginally sooner, but as I mentioned above the appeals aren't being reviewed until the unban sweep is done anyway, so it wouldn't have made a difference. And I've already moved it into my personal queue and I have the context from this chat here, so I get what's going on with it.

reef vine
#

Okay. Your personal attention had made thing quite a bit less crappy than I was originally expecting. A 100 year ban from the market... That was just surreal reading that! ๐Ÿ˜›

#

Thank you for your attention and efforts!

uneven lion
#

No problem! And yeah, as far as the "100 years" thing goes, that's just a permaban. System doesn't allow for "permanent" so it's just set long enough to functionally be permanent.

#

The usual way those work is "market ban until negative gems are paid off, then market ban is lifted" but there's a good chance that won't even be necessary here depending on the unban wave and the appeal results

Final update for me, things were cleared up and everything has been restored for my account. Thank you to everyone who put up with me during this. Thank you to the mods, Champs and devs for helping me.

reef vine
#

@uneven lion
Thanks for all your assistance. I think my ban has been reverted as well. I haven't gotten a reply to my support ticket specifically stating so, but I'm able to enter the market again and my gems are back.

uneven lion
#

No problem! Actually you not receiving a reply confuses me given you were in my queue - let me take a look

uneven lion
#

Ah, alright, I see the confusion. This was my reply:

I've just forwarded your account along to the dev team for manual review. They'll examine the grounds on which you were banned, and if they're found to be in error, that ban will be lifted and your original gem total reinstated.

We don't really provide follow-ups after that, as that would involve a back-and-forth with another team (QA) on an account-by-account basis, which simply isn't feasible

reef vine
#

Yeah, I got that one but thought there might have been one after that stating the result, but no worries there.

One thing I and worried about though: I haven't actually posted anything on the market yet but some items will max out at 12.5x the "base price" when I hold down the >> button on the price screen, but other items max out at 10x the "base price". Is that normal? I haven't found a pattern on why some are 10x and some are 12.5x.

uneven lion
#

I believe what you're seeing are the different milestone benefits to cost. It used to be that those weren't usable until you had unlocked them (so getting the 1.25x base price milestone also allowed you to sell it for 1.25x on the market) but a semi-recent update revised that to be usable on the market even if you didn't have that milestone quite yet.

reef vine
#

Okay, i think i get it. The ones that are 12.5x seen to be ones that i don't have the 1.25 milestone yet but their market prices max out as if i do? The ones that max at 10x base all seem to be ones I have already received the 1.25x milestone.

uneven lion
#

That sounds right, yeah. It looks like 10x to you because the 1.25x multiplier is already worked in

hard mulch
#

I have been banned from the market
Had my gems removes and replaced with negative 5k.

I have been researching what may of caused this. And now I see.
I have been unintentionally posting items for more than what they should go from the market for some time.
Basically by holding down the right arrow. (Not knowing there was a bug or anything going on) nor really having to have to know what an item SHOULD go for as I'm not the one who sets the price.

Either way. I would mindlessly put items on the market hold down max price or do gems. Not caring whether they are bought or not
In order to save them.for a dragon event or something else.

Did I possibly post its for higher? Maybe. But did I even know that they were absurdly higher than they should be? Or just 1 gold.more? No

I wasn't intending on using an exploit. Which still I don't know.fully how it would work in benefit to me or anyone.

I shouldn't be punished and cut off for this. If anything the market shouldn't of let me do as it was intended if it were to be am offense.

It really kills me that iwould have to m pay MORE real life money just to MAYBE get back into the market.

I don't have incentive to pay
Because the next time there's some glitch that I don't know about I could get banned again after shelling out even more dough. And I've spent quite a bit already

toxic stratus
#

You didn't think at all as a lvl 72 player it was odd you could list things above 10x their price?

regal arrow
fickle apex
#

Just make a ticket, if the ban is unwarranted they will undo.

hard mulch
#

The only thing I noticed sometimes is an item being 1 gold higher than the max price. But the market had been soo buggy when trying filters I just disregarded it and figured the devs would rework whatever is going on in time

#

Still I am not sure how this would.even be me trying to get some unfair advantage. Regardless of the fact that I truly wasn't trying to ho beyond the main mechanics of the game.

#

The only market orders I have paid attention to were ones where I was in a constant bidding war with others and those never ended up being more than 10x a price but in fact less because your battling other players basically... ๐Ÿค”

#

I wish they would show me what I posted that was soo heinous so I could at least attempt to explain.
But tbh it was my main ignorance of anything illicit even going on.
I just played the game for fun not try to work the system

The fact the market was broke and allowed people to do this without intentionally trying to subvert it in someway surely leaves some lee-way but depends how long it was being used for.

Its not like people are doing X Y and Z to replicate the bug if its merely just placing at max price without looking.

I'm not really sure what you mean. From everything our end shows, we're only actioning people caught exploiting. Wendigo falls into this category.

#

Why would we compensate people who we action for the inconvenience of being banned for exploiting?

#

I can assure you it's not just "hold down button." QA has tested this pretty extensively with a zero repro rate through that method.

hushed oar
#

@hard mulch now u didnt make the update, or plan the bug, you just played the game, then somewhere along the way, from what you said somebody probably told you something was wrong with the market, and maybe you already made purchases and sales because you are active in the game. Now you didn't word your reply very well. you mumbled and said something about knowing 1 gold over, but you didn't say when you found out. you didn't continue to say that you found out AFTER because there was no announcement in-game and it could have easily been just an automated game update as much as a bug, you were not notified or protected from this bug, the critical point is, you were mumbling, and didn't make it clear that you found out there was a problem with the game, and the administrators of the game, knew there was a problem, but did not announce the problem in an announcement throughtout the game, but instead banned your market, i hope your game gets fixed, and maybe customer service can get a clear account of what happened and not mumbling, because they might or might not have time to check whether you have EVER exploited the game before, you might just have been clicking on the game and there was no notice for clicking here or there, there was no notice sent out across the screen or in the mailbox, about this bug AT ALL, which could have prevented you from being in this awkward situation, now you might have to be patient with Kabaam, maybe you'll get someone honest to sort your problem out,

#

But for clarity's sake, how LONG, did you have knowledge of this bug, and what had you done before that. Now if you did not know, like most players what was going on, what comes next is what you did AFTER you found out there was 1 gold extra, you thought nothing of it, right, like it could have been part of the update, no announcement was made that it was a bug you probably just thought the price had changed or market function had changed for better or worse, and you accepted this change, now you have been punished because you did not word your reply right

toxic stratus
#

They already looked into his account

uneven lion
#

Again, you seem very confused. Customer support is not actioning anyone based on their own wording of what happened.

@uneven lion well did he go over 3 0s? its pretty easy and a common practice for myself, to type 99999999999 until the value maxes, and then i'd be hit with a ban someday if i was more active in the market maybe, that wouldn't be fair because there was no announcement about it, and the function was unlocked and he probably didnt collaberate with anyone else to have action other than his possible unknowing trades, did he really make over like, at least 10G of gold from this? of he did, then that surely justifies this huge fine of 5k gems of 40 dollars, to play a game which he has probably spent over 2000 hours on.

#

but i digress

#

thats not why i came here

copper geyser

copper geyser

There is a difference in doing an exploit on purpose and on accident. Kabam doesnt ban or fine people if it happens on accident

hushed oar
#

until someone in world or guild chat mentioned not to use market or something along those lines

uneven lion

Right, but the point being made here is that a) making an announcement encourages people to try and do it more than it stops them, and b) an announcement isn't particularly helpful because it's not something a user can accidentally do

hushed oar
copper geyser
#

We have had exploits happen in the past which you could do on accident. Nobody got banned for it. There was a 100% drop rate on keys in LCoG this one time. We had a time where you could send the same heroes to two different quest at the same time.

gleaming wharf
#

The 5k gem fine, would that unlock the market apon clearing their debt or is that just another chance at an appeal?

uneven lion
#

That's the fine/penalty for the exploit. Getting the account back up to a positive value gets the market ban lifted.

#

It's nothing to do with an appeal, which would be putting forward the case that no action should have been taken to begin with and trying to get us to revert it

gleaming wharf
#

All good, just didnt want them to buy gems to clear it if it wasnt going to lift the ban anyway

#

Was just asking for clarity

uneven lion
#

Yeah, no problem!

toxic stratus
#

Aight, potentially silly question time:
I get the whole being able to unban from market for a fee when it comes to refunds, mutli-accounting etc
But if it was for exploiting the market is that really the wisest idea?
"Oh yeah we know you screwed it up once, wanna take another crack?"

gleaming wharf
#

Thats why I was checking, if its been deemed they / someone has intentionally without a shadow of a doubt done it not on accident I thought itd be a perm market ban

uneven lion
#

Ultimately not a call I'm involved with either way, so I can't weigh into the reasoning for it exactly. If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say the assumption is that the ban and penalty is determined to be enough deterrent in most cases

gleaming wharf
#

Yeah, just didnt want them to pay $50 for gems to still be banned irregardless.

#

If theyd even want to get gems in the first place, better to be informed.

uneven lion
#

Oh yeah, absolutely

gleaming wharf
#

Obviously you dont want to specifically state or explain the bug (for good reason) but I presume just holding down the max value (as some people do) wasnt able to be replicated by QA and you had to specifically do something else intentional to do it?

#

Because if just listing for max without paying attention is a bit strict, unless ofcourse there is a pattern of the person doing it maliciously

#

(Not this case, just in general)

#

Like, if I were to sell opulent jewels for cash i'd likely just sell at max value without looking as thats an item that does that.

gleaming wharf
uneven lion
#

That's correct, yeah - neither just holding down the input nor entering arbitrary superhigh numbers (e.g. 99999999) did it

hard mulch
#

That's nice and all to hear. But for whatever reason they have seems Ludacris to me.
For clarity. I've not known any special item or magic number to put in to exploit the market price in any way.

Nor have I accumulated some mass wealth that I would notice by selling an item.

My main experience with the market has been either posting items for max. OR when actively selling usually undercutting another players value by 1 gold or a few in order to sell my item first.

This is the way I have used the market since I can even remember.

Since the bug is apparently fixed. I don't see why I cannot at least see my own market history to see what the hell mistake I made.
I know the game isn't run by a democracy. Devs are judge, jury, and executioner.
If what you say is true. That "They" don't listen to players plea's. Then I suppose there was never a point to bring it up.
Game gets bug. Player pays the price.

#

I would be totally fine for everyone to see this evidence of my alleged crime to determine whether I was guilty of deliberately trying to exploit some.market bug.

But honestly. After playing and paying and investing time into this game. To be treated this way. I wouldn't come come back and give one red cent. Nor do I want to waste any more of my time.

I hope for the players here. Something doesn't happen to you.
Good day.

uneven lion
#

In this case it was selling Bunny Spirit for enough of an overcharge as to qualify as definitive exploitation of an issue.

I understand that you're frustrated. I just ask that you also try to see things from our perspective. Ultimately, what we have here is:

  • Clear data-level evidence of you selling something for well above max market price (i.e. the exploit in question)
  • A claim that this was done accidentally, but
  • Zero ability to reproduce this claim through either your own explained methods or our own investigation, and
  • That holds true for both our QA team and the independent investigating community members who have attempted to look into it

I really do hope you (and if not you, then anyone reading along) can see and understand Kabam Montreal's position on this and why it is the way it is.

hushed oar
#

It's just a pixel, give him a 5 dollar fine, not 40 don't tell us he made 40 dollars worth of gold right from bunny spirits? Especially if its his first time being involved. Like if its not a serious crime, shouldn't first time offenders get a bit of leighway?

uneven lion

The numbers refer to the highest skill slot they can reroll
But yeah we're leaving the bounds of a bug report there ๐Ÿ˜›

# toxic stratus I mean you say not serious, I say listing items for amounts like this is

I mean if he made less than 4.5G, thats pretty minor, to me and the majority of players over level 60. He's level 72 and if its his first offence instead of me thinking about whether he should be reviewed as a potential threatening existence to the game, statistically, he has spent 2000 hours on the game not exploiting stuff or breaking rules and in a space of less than probably 4-10hours he gets banned, if he has previous convictions which I hope he doesn't, would it not then make sense to judge this person/player as safe he's not causing no disturbance, he's got a clean record, JUST FOR EXAMPLE. Like would it not be a case of goodwill, we are the people not these gold coins in-game i think the focus should be on that really, its just a small hiccup.Think of it this way, if he weren't online during that 4-10 hours, he'd have missed this DISASTER of a ban right? This is more of a DISASTER to him, than an exploitation of a bug, that can be clearly understood

Just look at him, don't look away he has probably more worth in collection book, he has helped people 3000+ times and spent time doing how many bounty trophies, is it not clear he is part of NORMAL society in Shop Titans, does he have prior history of exploitation? does he have irregular stats that indicate he is abusing something consistently? is he encouraging others to abuse whatever you wanna call these things that get made available in the game? The game is just clicking and pointing, theres no announcement what not to click on, what not to type in, come on, if he was a real bug abuser, don't you think he'd do it before spending 2000+ hours playing the game normally?
