Anyway, someone else was reporting issues on a pixel. have you checked to see if there's any updates for your google play app?
And did you try everything it suggests under the "common ways to fix the problem" list

Long press on it and then in the menu that pops up there's a close thread button

I had this issue on iOS. Every time I run the game, it installs the update. After install, I open the game and it tells me I need to update. Freeing up some extra space on the phone resolved this update cycle.
