Nostalgaia - PS5 "Laid bare" impossible?

Summary of issue: On PS5, I can't seem to get Bold's armor on my Laid bare run.

Description: I can't get it normally, because I can't give Nhero the Shield of inspiration to cause him and Bold to appear in the Keep, and he won't accept the unburdened version.
Killing Bold in his cell seems to glitch him. He slides backwards instead of a death animation, and his shield hovers in the air with 0 HP. The armor doesn't drop.

What happened prior to the bug occurring? Nothing unusual, but Nhero doesn't accept unburdened quest item.

What did you expect to happen? The armor drop😁

How often does it occur? Everytime

I already tried a new game from scratch and the exact same thing happens. To clarify - I can get the armor normally by finishing the quest, but it seems impossible to obtain it while trying to unburden all the items 😕

If I remember correctly, finishing Bold's quest needs me to progress Nhero's quest, so that they both appear in the castle. However, to do that, I must give Nhero the remembered Shield of Inspiration, which voids the Laid bare trophy. If Nhero accepted the unburdened version, then everything should work out 🧐

That's the way to progress the quest normally, I've done that in the previous playthrough. Now, I'm going for the trophy "Laid bare", which requires me to unburden every artifact, including the shield, so it can't be used in Nhero's quest, because he doesn't accept the unburdened shield, only the remembered version. And as a result, it leaves me unable to progress Bold's quest, as it's partially connected to Nhero's 😕

And I didn't find another way to obtain Bold's armor (other than finishing his quest, which makes the trophy above unobtainable) which is also required for the trophy, from what I googled😕

So to really break it down, the main question is, is there a way to get the Bold's armor set without having to remember the shield for Nhero? Or are some artifacts exempt from the trophy requirements?

Either way, the strange behavior of Bold's body in my original post makes it look like there is some bug at work😄

Hi, someone just replied to me on Reddit, saying they advanced Nhero's quest using the unburdened shield, instead of the remember version. That's precisely what doesn't work for me. If that worked, then I could get Blade the Bold's set normally, and everything would be solved.

If it helps, Nhero says something like "How could my spirits be lifted with a shield that doesn't even remember itself?" when I try giving him the unburdened shield. But apparently, this worked for others 😕

@remote heron Here you go, thanks for looking into it. I completely deleted my save data and redownloaded the game, but I'm not holding out hope. Some people got the trophy, but I can't seem to meet the requirements because of the Shield of Inspiration and Blade's armor, which in my game were mutually exclusive 😕

Hope I'm not missing something simple (I'd feel really stupid😅), but a suspiciously low % of PS players have this trophy.

Just got to the same point on a fresh save, and Nhero won't take the unburdened shield, only the remembered one.

Can you please ask if unburdening the Shield of Inspiration is needed for the Laid bare trophy? 😁

Dev response: I got to "The Vault" I unburdened the Shield of Inspiration at the Reservoir of Pain and then backtracked to Nhero in Festivity Row and gave him the shield, he accepted it.

Could you try the same steps as above and let me know if that has worked for you? 👀

Important: I'm playing the ps5 version, the main menu says v 1.03.2

I read in a guide for Xbox version that "NPCs should accept unburdened quest items now", so I assume that was patched in at some point? Maybe the PS5 version didn't get the same patch?

@remote heron Here's the guide, it clearly states that a patch for the Xbox version made this trophy possible in the first place. The only explanation that makes sense to me at this point is that the PS5 wasn't patched the exact same way😆
I have no idea about the PS4 version, as I haven't played that one.

Also, does the DLC factor in, i.e. doesn't it update some relevant game files? I didn't have the DLC at the time, now I do, but I haven't tried it again since then.

Hi @spark gazelle The devs have shared with me they've tried recreating your bug and they were able to resolve by following the steps below:
"What I did was:

• I unburdened the shield at Hoover in the Vault
• Then I went back to Festivity Row to give him the shield and he took it no problem."

That's just the normal way of doing it😂 I played the game 3 times, I know how to unburden items and to progress the quest lines.

I posted here precisely because that normal way doesn't work in my game for some reason. Can you please confirm the devs tried it on the PS5 version, like in my video?

Besides, that is the exact same response I already got earlier 😕 You can literally see I'm at Festivity Row, I purposely showed the shield being unburdened, and you can see him rejecting it. I don't know what else I can show.

~~The devs did mention with the above, it looks like the save file is corrupted/something has gone wrong. Unfortunately save file issues aren't usually solvable and the general advice is to suggest you restart, but that's not great.

With the above steps, the devs logic is to retrigger objectives, so maybe Nhero can register the shield is unburdened to see if this helps not having to restart~~

^^^As I was typing this out, you've mentioned the fresh save file since the patch 👀 Let me go back to the devs as this is something new

I tried literally everything, it's not the first fresh save file. Before the patch, I even wiped all game and save data from the console and redownloaded the game again, as fresh as it can be. Multiple attempts, and Nhero never accepts the unburdened shield, only the remembered one. It should work, but just doesn't.

Speaking of the Vault, there was another issue I mentioned the first time around, maybe it's connected?

Killing Blade the Bold during the first meeting in the prison cell, he glitches out on death, and his shield stays hovering in midair, still targetable as an enemy.

I'm curious, can this be recreated in the devs' game?

Btw. the game version on title screen is 1.04.11, and 1.000.004 on the PS5 home screen.
I'm getting a little paranoid now😂 Could there be an issue specific to my copy of the game?

Hey Mike thanks for waiting - the version on title screen and ps5 home screen is ok, it shouldn't have any impact on your game

As for the original issue for the "Laid Bare" achievement - the dev team have investigated and done everything they can to find out what is causing the issue for you, and unfortunately there is nothing further the team can do : (
From their end, the devs have been able to on fresh play throughs, and using save data files - it all comes back as being able to progress with giving Nhero the unburdened shield.
This is the step by step message I got from the devs investigating this for you:

I played naturally, doing all quests, Nhero, Shopkeeper and the blacksmith, I have only remembered the Serrated Sword and the hammer, and then have proceeded through each section until you meet Hoover in The Vault, there I talked to him and unburdened the Shield of Inspiration, I then backtracked to Festivity Row where I talked to Nhero and offered him the Unburdened Shield of Inspiration, at this point it should be called Unburdened, and he took it without issue. I even tested the same situation with "Unburdened" in NG+ this morning and had no issues.

I'm really sorry, it looks like we may not have a fix for this issue you have encountered, this is not the outcome any of us wanted!

One last thing, is there a way I could maybe send you my save file from PS5 to look at? I know it's easy on PC, but I've never tried on PS5😆

But I just noticed the shield's name didn't change to "unburdened"!

It's the only shield that does that, btw. Other shields change their names!

I've been looking on the PS5 website and so far its only returning cloud storage - https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/support/subscriptions/save-transfer-ps-plus-stream/ I'm not 100% you can access cloud storage outside of your own console?

It's been ages, but I think it's possible via the website, I'll look later.

In the meantime, I wiped all data and redownloaded the game, trying again one last time. PS5 version, playing normally, remembering only the Serrated sword and Smith's hammer, and I'll unburden the shield and backtrack to Nhero. I'll make a new cloud back up in front of Hoover, before unburdening the Shield of inspiration.

I did everything the same way, but this time, it worked. For some reason, the shield previously didn't change to unburdened (as you could actually see in my video), but this time it did. And now, Nhero accepted it without problems🎉
