I am a kid who wants to learn music production but doesn’t know what daw to start with i want to make music like childish gambino, kid cudi and other artist of that nature. And i want to know where to start and how to learn. I’ve been trying ableton lite but my music sounds like dogshit. Also next year i will be taking music theory.

Cracking things can be very dangerous so just be careful

#

What daw are you using

#

I would start with the plugins in your daw of choice external plugins are useless if you don’t understand why you want that one, find what you feel like you’re missing. To learn the sound design, learn the fundamentals. There is a lot of good YouTube videos. Than listen to your favourite music and try to recreate those sounds your self, then you’ll understand how to do it for yourself. Just have fun with it and through some spaghetti at the wall

Almost every daw has a free trail so go around and do them all that what I did

#

It’s just a tool to express yourself there is no good daw for a good genre

#

But I also don’t like ableton

I actually think starting ableton is great because it is the standard and I’m sorry I gave up on it. Studio One is more intuitive and Logic Pro is amazing. I’ve since decided to use Garageband, its free and very easy. Apple loops are awesome. Start with live loops, pick from one genre and learn how to structure your loops to make a song. Then once you’ve got a feel for electronic music start writing your own loops. Knowing how to use the live loops and arrange them logically really raised my skill level tremendously. Good luck!

Let me know if you have any questions!

You need music theory, learning basic chords progressions, scales, (minor major chords) etc. I know it's daunting, but it's the basic to learn if you want to make good music and not putting random notes on a keyboard. You can buy the e-book HookTheory I, it's 15$ and it's very intuitive, they don't use sheet music, but a system based on numbers for each notes (1-7). Give it a try. It helped me. You can buy HookTheory II if you liked it.

Honestly learn the fundamentals. It's boring, but you will feel free later.
