Reaper, I only stuck around with 2 daws after using them for a tiny bit, it and musescore if you count that as a daw

Cheap: logic

Free:

  • LMMS
  • Cakewalk by Bandlab (Specifically this, not Cakewalk Sonar or the paid versions)
  • Ardour
  • Garageband (apple exclusive)
  • Reaper (Trial, 60 days. They won't force you to buy after the trial, but keep in mind it's a team of like...2-3 people plus the community contributing to it)

Paid/Cheap:

  • Reaper ($60, can sitll use commercially before you make $20k/year or more from music. Then a license is $225)
  • Logic Pro (Mac Only, $200)
  • FL Studio Producer Edition ($200)
  • Ableton Live Intro (limited to 16 tracks, $100)
  • PreSonus Studio One ($200 Perpetual, or $20/mo. Personally I'd suggest not doing a subscription)

+1 to Reaper. Much better for instrumental recording compared to something like FL (IMO). It was my first DAW and the one I learned to produce with. Also $60 for Reaper is a steal TBH.

try the FL studio free trial, its like 14 days and u dont have to put your info in

at least try it if you're thinking of buying FL in the future, changed my life

after my trial expired i couldnt open piano roll, it was a while ago though cant remember the specifics.

Update: ive decided to try cakewalk, since it offers everything professional daws also have
