Hey guys I was wondering why WOTB competitive is mobile only? Are PC users exempt from playing in tournaments?

The PC side was only introduced to offer more ways to play. The game is still purely a mobile game at heart. Therefore, professional tournaments are restricted to how the game was originally meant to be played. If, by any chance, wargaming was to introduce a PC league, it would be pointless. There is WoT PC for that. No need for PC tournaments on a mobile game. One could say that Blitz is completely different to PC and therefore it should be an option for a new experience, but I doubt WG would invest in that idea at all. That being said, the idea is still cool 🙂

WG cover travel costs for offlines. They book the tickets. If you can afford it, book your own tickets though... the only time I've ever had issues flying was into and out of Minsk on WG booked tickets. Both times. Pre-Covid I flew once a month for my job for like 3 years and never had any major complications or missed connections 😂

@limber lintel well yeah jetlag could be a factor, that and like the days prior to the event is doing PR with WG staff and getting very little information due to the language barrier. I mean you get told enough to get by but it's a bit of whirlwind mystery ride between things.

Re: PC players at offlines. Heck no. The infrastructure considerations alone are prohibitive. What would be COOL is WG partnering with a top tier "gaming" phone company or Apple / Samsung (flagship devices) and gifting players a device each. Sponsorship of event + exposure of devices in action for a fairly graphically demanding mobile game (?) - could work. That being said, many players are muscle-memory to their device so it might be a bad idea. When I upgraded iPad sizes I had 2 weeks of even more botesque play than usual.

I agree that some form of sponsorship would be cool but there is a lot to think about.
I will again refer to CODM, pro players received new flagship phone xperia 1 III or however its called and its supposed to be "the best phone" to play codm on so you can imagine the campaign around it. The biggest issue is that the phone is so bad that pro players could barely play on it (They had to since its one of the conditions, btw 1 player refused to play on it and his team got instantly DQd) and you can imagine the chaos and only negatives being said about it which doesnt help sony at all since they have basically no sells 😄 So from nice marketing move on paper and cash backup from sony to ATVI its gone 2nd year in a row to basically only codm pro players having the phone and im pretty sure they dont use it xD

WG, about the new way of drawing teams in coin tournaments, those breaks are terribly unnecessarily long, 2-5 minutes between each opponent would be enough, not 30 minutes, we are waiting for another opponent more than we play, the tournament itself could be played in less than an hour and not like now in almost 2 and a half hours 😄

Dynasty and fort despair have been in rotation for a long time, you had a lot of data to consider earlier to make this decision

Ghost Factory is an asymmetrical map that prioritised aesthetics over gameplay. Its design is inherently flawed for competitive gameplay. Same as Hellas.

Hellas = the flat map with a "fun" and "interesting" tunnel.

Ghost Factory = the map with a large overheard environment in the middle.

I feel like graphic designers are in charge of map design and they slap a flavour of the day theme on a new map and just push that angle without giving any actual thought to the gameplay.

Hell. Overhead environments + dodgy camera movement are frustrating enough as it is. Why do newer maps like Faust, Hellas, Ghost Factory make such a big deal about enclosed environments? It is terrible design wise for a game with player camera movement as it is... and even for free cam spectation those environments are a drawback rather than an asset.

The heart of PvP map design is symmetricality. A figurative level playing field.

Tournaments expose which maps are bad but these maps are already bad even in public matches.

What makes it even worse is that WG uses heat map data to redesign/tweak maps for balance but this is literal survivorship and confirmation biases at play.

Anyways. GF is in rotation. No one has time to prepare strategies. Everyone will ban it. There will be less variety between matches and maps used. Well done?

Tbh - overall tournament format and seeding system for autumn season 2021 is big improvement on previous seasons.

It is basically normal now for WG to release meta breaking new tanks part way through so as annoying and as uncompetitive/unbalanced/unfair the 60tp addition will be - there's no point discussing that.

Changing the map pool to include new maps that have no established high level tournament gameplay likewise reduces competiveness/balance/fairness.

But whilst the new tank addition to the tournament is "unavoidable", there's no such obligation to include new maps EXCEPT the misguided notion it will improve tournament viewing engagement. ... I believe the contrary is true. Adding a new map if played will result in lower quality gameplay. If banned - why even bother?

Right now I see it as able to do parts/all of the jobs of the e100 and wz113 in terms of its assets.

The “unique” part of it I reckon is the fact that it can be an absolute beast to hold down a choke point but with the right stacked consumables is remarkably fast so can rotate/assist with pushes better than any other holding tank can atm.

The tournament scene is small, and the interest in it is generally just for the stuff people can get for watching 😅 I think that by doing this per server, wg hopes to raise more awareness of sorts per server as well

But regardless of per server or all at once, imo it's a step forwards that other servers are included with other servers =)
