Lack of interest in tour streams is a hard one. Personally I think tour gameplay is probably boring for most people unless they play tours and understand the details of what is happening, and that’s a small minority of players on each server. I’d like some more attention from WG on building interest in tournaments in general, starting with the crap rewards in QT which barely cover the cost of playing. Start with that, get more people playing tours casually, I’d predict that will inevitably lead to more competitive players = more views and interest

2019 was a yolo meta. It played into faster CIS play style and generally higher and more coordinated mechanical skill.

Don't compare offline finishes though.

1. EG- had 4 team members and 3 subs who hadn't even played comp that year.

2. Doubt the importance of having a full roster? See CIS finishes in Amazon Mobile Masters Series 2017 and 2018.

3. Internet connection at 2019 offline event was bad. Really bad. Teams couldn't train and there was a general concensus that one of the rooms had more reliable connection than the other.

4. Remember many top CIS teams have sponsors and coaches and managers etc. while most EU and NA teams do not.

2021 heavy meta reminds me of 2018 heavy meta hybridised with 2019 yolo meta... but where rush dpm, burst damage and heavy durability is all fielded in heavy tanks 🤪

I wonder if new tier X tank will disrupt meta at all. I mean... t22, prog.65, tvp, yoh... it's a literal precedent and expectation at this point 😆

Also agree it is not fair to compare servers with offline tournaments. All 4 servers have evolved considerably in the last few years.

True. However, smaller servers will always be at a disadvantage in terms of standard distribution of skill/ability.

It is a mathematical certainty that the larger a server, the more numerous and higher ceilinged the skilled players will be. Factor in CIS having the most invested esports playerbase, audience and support systems and it is astonishing they lost on home turf in 2017 and 2018 :P

From what I’ve seen, no player from Asia ever starts any problems with this conversation. It’s consistently EU and NA ego’s trashing the server for no particular reason and it happens regularly which is just boring at this point. Asia undoubtedly is the weakest server traditionally apart from CN, but that comes with a smaller player base. I just don’t see why there’s a group of EU and NA keyboard warriors here who care enough to repeatedly trash Asia. No one cares lmao. Apart from all that, Asia has definitely improved in the last 6 months with the last 2-3 seasons being the best it’s had. I think people severely overestimate the importance of their opinion here 👍

Yup that I don't disagree as well. Factoring in Wargaming has not had the technological capacity to allow training between two clans on different servers, then you have an even bigger disparity in skills between servers.

I don't think strats are that are far off for the three servers though. All three servers have shown to display ingenious winning moves.

Agree. I have seen Asia server come from a really long way this year. Going from a top 16 clan not registering for the last few qualifying tournaments last summer to a competitive top 16 in the last 3-4 seasons has been nothing short but worth complimenting. The top 8 quality is the highest I've seen this season.

From my experience, Asia tends to have a lower proficiency in English than EU which I think a huge reason is because Asian languages have a much more different syntax than English, while European languages have a more similar syntax.

In other words, the language barrier for the Asia server is more severe.

Obviously RU and EU have a bigger player pool to dip into and as such more teams are on show meaning different strats and play styles need to be considered. Asia strats suit that server, they are no worse or better, but particular to that region. Yes there is then a gap when servers meet in offlines, but that is to be expected.

Language barriers exist across all servers, maybe not so apparent with RU with a commonish language across the region. Language is a barrier for Asia ofc it is when trying to build teams from across a wide spectrum of countries, but that is not the main issue. Asia, whilst being a huge region, has a lower player base and that is the root cause. There are a lack of clans/teams and as such competition isnt has big as EU/RU. NA has a similar issue.

That being said though, pretty much every country in EU consistently teaches English in schools. We're constantly exposed to English in music, movies, series, books, etc. The few exceptions there are the countries that dub everything, and those are also the countries that have more national teams rather than mixed nationalities

Asia certainly has come a long way

But for literal years, it's been like watching a server that's a few years behind in meta, where the yolo rushes reigned supreme and the one who won generally had slightly better focus fire than the other team in their yolo brawl

Don't get me wrong, I'm not approving any trashtalking or insults

And the language barrier and lack of strong opponents to train against + dodgy ping, internet and timezones, along with an unstable server certainly hasn't helped

It's very easy to place responsibility of your words and actions at someone else's doorstep, but at the end of the day, you're responsible for your own words. That includes how they come across. If they come across as an insult it means you worded them wrong. Saying you meant it As A jOkE doesn't mean you're suddenly excused from all responsibility. A lot of people use that crap excuse as a reason why they think they can say whatever they want without thinking, because they're not mature enough to actually own up to them and apologise if their "joke" turns out to be rude instead

I get that some look down on Asia, but as I said each server has its own unique style and gameplay to suit the players in that region. With Asia being the smallest server then the competition is lower than other servers, that doesnt mean the Asia server is in anyway bad or filled with bad players because all servers have their fair share of bad players, Asia certainly does not have the monopoly on that!

When is the non-7v7 tournaments leaving? They were cool for like a month, but it’s definitely not as fun as 7v7 in the long run.

Having more people on your team is more enjoyable as it actually gives need for strategy, which is the difference between random games and tournaments. 2v2-5v5 is just heavy spam, as there’s no need for anything else when you can just focus on a small area.

I have nothing against them, but don’t think they are enjoyable in such long stretches.

Remember streaming is effectively voluntary with at best - token in-game rewards for the streamers / a nominal fee for higher profile events from WG.

I am not exaggerating when I say that if you do the math on hours in a season, streamers effectively earn less than €5 per hour if that. Assuming decent stream views and a WG contribution.... and not factoring in hardware/software costs, overheads and time spent setting up and learning how to stream effectively.

You are ofc welcome to start streaming yourself. It's basically a hobby.

For me - a 3 hour tournament stream might net €20 in ad revenue and super chats at best. Like most of that being super chat. Alternatively I could sit in the same chair on my work laptop and come out 5x better off and with a lighter inbox for the following morning...

The ability to scrimmage teams from other servers would really help a lot in the lead up for Blitz Cup and I think it would improve the quality of gameplay everyone sees in the actual Blitz Cup ☺️

pretty sure that there is a minimum reward for all players and the additional rewards are distributed in the ratio of games played. So if a player is spectator for all games, he will still get some minimum rewards (not 100% sure on this but speaking from experience)

What a ride for the Asia server tonight! Both games ended 4-3 and lots of amazing comebacks too! At one point, I was fumbling at all the possible tiebreak combinations we could see in the top 4 and surprised that -RN-, -ID-, GV and HLV all still have a chance in the top 4 before round 13.

Kudos to -ID-, HLV and GV for the show tonight 👍 They have been really entertaining to watch and this is the best top 4 fight I have ever seen. Yea that's pretty lame.. just takes to have a look at a few streams to notice how several teams weren't even trying after reaching top 8 since the rewards were quite literally the same wether you played with 5 183s all matches or were one match away from blitz cup. but what rgk says is completely true, there needs to be a lot more discrepancy between the rewards that go to top 8 teams vs challengers teams. Then in top 8 especially when there's a Round Robin system 5th and 6th place should not be getting identical rewards to 8th.

Sincerely, the system we used in the BPC was good and @muted ore might want to consider using it.

Top 10 = Round Robin.
Places 1 - 4 advance to double elimination stage (Blitz Cup Equivalent) with 2x "lives"
Places 5-8 play a 2nd Round Robin where top 2 teams advance to Blitz Cup stage with 1x "life"
Places 9-10 eliminated.

Making echelons/divisions x10 rather than x8 is more logical.

Advantages of this system are all teams can remain in contention for 1st place longer - 9 and 10 places might be able to break into the 5-8 bracket even though they would be out of reach of 1-4 from mid stage of a Round Robin format. Giving 5-8 a shot at final stage albeit with 1 rather than 2 lives is still a shot. It makes the competition a tougher and closer fight. There are few to none "redundant matches" and even teams at the bottom of the table still have a chance right up until their last match of any stage.

Thing is that they've admitted in the same post that they only asked for CIS input >.> This is something I really want to see change in.. ^ re: tournaments, it is worth noting EU has won 50% of all Twister CUps despite having 1/4 the server population of CIS and being the "away" team. Also worth noting NA won the offline Amazon Mobile Masters in 2018 in Seattle which included EU and CIS teams.

I cannot tress enough how critically important is for offlien events that teams' rosters remain the same during the season for the sake of their performance (EG-, Twister 2019....) - also "homefield" advantage is pretty huge noting travel stresses and logistics etc.

My point is - in terms of performance - CIS are not as dominant as they should noting the HUGE playerbase they have.

And the follow on of that point is that @leaden belfry is right. WG should take feedback from outside CIS server. Not least of all because those players are also more familiar with alrger and more successful esports brands/games/franchises.
