Actually yeah, at least 1kill is very crucial. Idk, maybe I am wrong,but I experienced many battles when a player with 1 kill but less damage gets a reward instead of a guy who has more dmg but 0 kills. BUT, if you have at least 1 kill, you can get a reward even if another person has 2 kills but less damage.

My checklist is based on this. This is from wot pc wiki. Everything is the same except module xp, crew and I think close quarters but everything else is the same.

Each kill gives a small amount of xp but it’s enough to pass someone with no kills. Dmg is more important than kills so 1 kill and more dmg gives more xp than 2 kills and less dmg.

I think ranked would benefit from removing the ability to gain points on a loss, it encourages cowardly and painful gameplay as we have witnessed from certain players who are not going to be directly named but heavily implied.
A better system for points should be based on relative team performance, not raw xp. If, lets say, you are consistently in the middle of the team in terms of xp, you shouldn't lose or gain rating over time because that shows that you are performing at an average level. On the contrary, if you are generally the top of your team, win or loss, you should end up gaining points over time until you get to a rank where you perform at the average.
Another aspect of an improved point system should focus on the "Active action" and "Ally support" portions of xp that measure how much a player participates in the battle. Players should be dissuaded from running to spawn and farming when the battle isn't going well(AHEM) and therefore lose more points for having less xp in these categories than someone with the same total xp.
I just wish the point system would accurately demonstrate a player's skill and not how well they abuse the system

Tbh the old system before points on a loss was the same play style as today. On a loss you would only “lose less” points but still lose points. I thought the system of gaining on a loss was needed due to the small server size but that became quickly abused. They slowly reduced the points gained on loss which was nice because you could play 10 games lose 10 and win points giving you 100% wr. While it was annoying to do so much for your team and lose points I think that points on a loss is a positive thing and I would keep it. Even if these players played in the old point system nothing would change they would lose less points than you but you both lose.

However I agree that rating points needs to be recalibrated for more points given to “ally support” and “active action” and less to dmg dealt only on a loss. I feel that on a loss a person who tried to help their team should be rewarded over someone who camped and farmed all game.

Skill in ratings is measured (according to me) by higher points and fewer battles. You can spam your way to the top, you just need to lose less points than you earn.

If they changed the point system to remove gaining points on losses, you would still be high ranked because you would lose less points than you gain. The point is eliminating cheap farming tactics that result in a point gain on losses and also tend to lead to more losses in general

I understand that the main focus of the developers is not ranked and the system is not flawed enough to be an issue to most people who play it, but I think it needs to be addressed eventually how rating battles, or the ranked leaderboard rather, is a pretty poor indication of player skill (I know this because I managed to get first place). Another problem that contributes to this issue is the lack of rewards/incentive to play ranked after the first few months of playing it. For most decent or good players, it only takes a few months to get the tank and then maybe play a few more to get some okay camos on only 4 tanks maximum every month. They would at least be worth getting if they meant something significant, seeing as right now diamond and plat league are obtainable for even average players

I see where the issue might be in removing point gain on losses and how the playstyle might ultimately be the same, but as you said if points were more calibrated with ally support and active action they would favor the more skilled team players instead of the ones who simply farm and bait teammates.
I think the most basic change that could be made is if they make points based off of specific aspects of the xp earned from the match and not the totals, because as we have discussed it seems like total xp allows for exploitation and gives players who should be stuck in mid plat the ability to spam their way to diamond
Also @pliant sandal the point with the winrate is that certain players literally only care about how THEY perform in battle, and make selfish plays to get damage for themselves instead of working with their team towards the objective of winning. If you always make points on losses, you can have whatever winrate and it doesnt matter, which is a problem. Like Prince just said skill is how fast you gain rating, so the leaderboard doesn't really tell you anything about how skilled players are and that shouldn't be the case

Of course players in higher ranks have some skill, the main issue here is just that once you pass a certain threshold of experience, you can reach diamond with pure spam of battles. Everyone in diamond is usually somewhat experienced, thats not the problem. But players like alone do not compete in the slightest to actual "good" players and that information is completely hidden by the leaderboard

No one SHOULD be spamming battles, and most of the top players are very consistent about gaining points on losses by dealing lots of damage and getting xp etc. in every game. NA is also much less populated so high ranked lobbies are actually just a few diamond players, mostly plat players, and a few golds which makes the games really unpredictable and messy. The players that play the best have the highest point/battle ratio and thats how skill is really measured

Play less aggressively, in short. A lot of players in rating don't support their teammates if they know they think they are going to die because the name of the game is farm xp. If you play right with the rest of your team, you are more likely to live longer and won't get caught on your own as often

A lot of players like to try pushing one flank with the entire team, and sometimes it works out because everyone sticks together and doesn't do anything stupid, plus certain maps are very easy to push one side successfully. The problem is that it doesn't really work all the time, and for some reason it is a very popular strategy to clump up and push one side only in ranked. The most effective way to play is to take semi passive positions on the meta flanks if you are unsure what to do, and maybe take up more aggressive spots when your team is supporting you well. On the contrary, you really need to watch the map constantly to see where your team is and is going because you might be holding a spot passively and then next thing you know the whole enemy team swarms you and you have no support. Medium tanks tend to be the easiest to adapt with, so that's what most of what I just said is based on.
Tldr - PAY ATTENTION to your team as much as you can, and only take spots you are confident that your team can support you in - otherwise play passively and try and take advantage of the enemies mistakes

There's 2 reasons why players go one flank:

1. Going one flank usually beats a split team if you overwhelm the heavy flank.
2. It's old ratings meta before points on loss. It was easier to win more if you just go together and out brawl the other team. Back then, there were more diamond and platinum players, it was a brawlfest at those levels. You weren't maximizing xp unless you knew the secret, you wanted to win more than you lost.

Going one flank works if everyone is on board and knows what they're doing. In my experience(although it is limited to the past 3 seasons), that is a very inconsistent strategy because players just aren't aware enough for it to work

You pretty much have to go all one flank since if a couple of players go onto the second side of the map they are too isolated to support or get support from the rest of the team. So most of the times they will either run into 6-7 enemy tanks and your team is now fighting a 5v7 which is pretty hard to come back from. Or you end up fighting a 5v7 where the two flankers are so isolated from the team it will take them over a minute to get back. Maps aren't that large but when you have to swing around from the literal opposite side of the map and can't drive straight there those players are going to be out of the fight for a minute or two at which point the game is just over

You need everyone to do the role their tank is meant for. If the meds and lights let the enemy team get medium side control, most games will end in a loss.

The ability to read a lineup at the start of the game an know when and where to push to start is very important.

It could be that the rating system uses floating-point values and displays them rounded. You might actually be at 4999.8 when you need over 5k to be diamond for example. The difference being that website rounds down and in-game it's rounded up🤔

Like you said you got this player in calibration. Calibration starts off at 3k so mm will give you bronze and platinum players. There is no preferential mm, it tries to group you to another team with similar average ratings. Above 5k seems preferential because you are always grouped with lower teammate but remember they are lower for a reason. Also it’s a bell curve, less than 1% of player on any server reaches diamond and mm has to compensate for that.

Also WG’s selling point of ratings is extra xp (I honestly wish it was free xp) because of this it’s easier to grind tanks if you win plus it doesn’t effect your stats. I did this on my f2p, i grinded tanks in ratings and will have my last parts for the Lorraine fearless this szn so nobody has an excuse.

Of all the normal game modes, ratings is the most enjoyable for me. I get to work on improving my own gameplay and at the same time I am less affected by poor gameplay by my team, as long as I play well.

For me it's kinda the same. I was not very good at tier 10 because I haven't played it much. But with playing much tier 10 in ratings and fun modes I recognized that regular mode tier 10 is a little bit easier than rating tier 10 (less heavily armoured vehicles and skill of enemy can be much lower). but I'm still learning (and don't play much regular mode in general). May is the last month to get the final parts for the Lorraine so many strong players will appear to get the missing parts.

In June the new T49 fearless tank will come out. It will have a premium coefficient, 1 sec faster reload, reduced mobility, armor, and increased dispersion compared to regular t49.

It would be nice to have enough people to play at any time though. The other game modes do not have issues with the availability of players. Unless it’s a new tech tree line and the MM gets overwhelmed with the same tank type in queue.

We just need better rewards, there is no reason for people to play ratings after getting Lorraine, and for a lot of people, getting the Lorraine is either just get to diamond and not play after that or just get it in one season and never play ratings after. The rewards shouldn't be so mediocre and easy to get, and the ratings events didn't give anything really cool besides some camos and a bump in player population

I understand, the thing to remember is that 90% of the players are gold (60%)/bronze (30%), these are your regular pub players too.

To excel in ratings you need to focus on maximizing xp, or supporting your team to the best of your abilities regardless of win/loss conditions. Top players see this guy and know they will get points on a loss or carry them to a win.

I mean like if you were better than all these players you wouldn’t be at 3800 a couple weeks into the season. You still gain on a loss if you were good you’d consistently gain on a loss and get out of the lower leagues with ease

I was able to hit 5000 rating+ easily each season. after calibration I was going smoothly up from 3400 to 4400 and in last 3 days I went from 4400 to 3600... Got a lot of very bad players in MM & in tier VII where I was going for 50 battles I have lost a lot of rating. Then lost more. And more. Actually I am -500 in tier 7, other tiers I have green. What am I doing wrong omg? ... Tier VII is cursed. Which tank can help me quickly recover back to green? Currently playing Tiger I, Smasher, IS, SU 152, Isu 122S, smv cc 56, T43, LTG, Amx 13 57, M41D.

Biggest mistake was to keep playing after you lost more than 3 in a row. After 3 losses it’s MM or you are playing really bad because your are off (sleepy, frustrated etc). I generally quit and play the next day.

Also playing t7 at higher rating is a bad idea because you always face broken 8s. Just play 50 battles for camo and make up points in other tiers.

well not at all, i mean in part yes, i fought 840 btl in 2 months season with M-VI Yoh reaching 6.4k points, there was at least 5-6 defeats in a row but a few hours later it comes back and i can say i was consistent talking abt playstyle

at 5.5k-6k ratings are more balanced talkiing abt mm since everyone are experienced from a least 5k points so theres no brain deads destroying mm, making it more fair

See on NA after you reach 5k you still get players calibrating due to small population. Teams are very inconsistent you either get all the top players or you get the weakest teams because you are the highest player.

I can’t pick my team but I can control how I play. In ratings that means that I have direct control over how well I do, despite my team. In regular games you can literally do more than your entire team combined and lose not only the game but win rate. I find that infuriating.

I’m a pc main playing on mobile the past 6 months, I find no difference in gameplay other then randomly shooting/accidentally reloading auto loaders when I didn’t mean too bc fat fingers. The only big difference is pixel sniping/aiming at tiny weak spots. But even then just pray to rng and it hits ridiculous shots.

Also tournaments are done on mobile. And most of those guys play mobile in ratings for practice and even turn off same control mode to get better.

It's great that the game recognizes a player who doesn't fight at all, lets his colleagues die, drives around, just spots and possibly takes the furthest base. 596 DMG but + 31 WTF !!! For this should be castration so that he does not multiply! Maximizing xp is the point of ratings. It’s harder for heavy tanks and tds to spot. As a light/med player, I abuse the spotting mechanics to steal points from other good players.
