There's a big difference between playing to win and playing to get damage, they lead to very different things.

And yeah as said it's not a game mode that rewards good play it rewards abusing the system by playing badly.

No it doesn't reward you if you play badly. If you play badly, you play in Platinum League for hundreds of games.

Playing to win and playing to get damage in rating battles is similar in most of the cases. Why ? Because if you do damage, you approach a win. Just like in random battles, you won't see players with low damage and high percentage of wins 😉

The only case when players do damage without helping teammates, is in case of 100% defeat. If it's 0:3, there is no point in trying to win. You just try to live as long as you can to boost your possibility of gaining points.

Look, I am currently top-25 with 6420 points. I usually play in top-lobby with 4800-6000 average. Almost everyone has:
-good aim
-players stick together. They move as a pack of 7 players, just like in tournaments
-they play golden ammo + meta tanks
-have good tactical knowledge and understanding of the battle.

It's interesting to play and those who played well are rewarded. Not the ones, who played badly or "abused" (how???) The system.

Playing for damage and playing to win are gigantically different and playing for damage is not playing well. Just like there's a huge difference between damage and effective damage.

The ones who get points are the ones who play for themselves at the cost of their team, because that's all you need to do is be better than your team.

Explain the difference, bro). Usually people who say they play for a win, not a damage, die with 600-1500dmg and complain about campers in their team ;), but they are the cause of a defeat.

There’s been some players I can think of who will run to the opposite side of the map to snipe in their tvp rather than fight with the team. This makes it more likely they end up with higher damage totals as if the team losses then that’s fine as they will be last alive and able to farm some more damage. But the damage they farm after the team is dead already doesn’t actually make it more likely the team will win. If it’s 1v4 even if you farm another 3k damage your still unlikely to win. In cases like these players drastically reduce the teams overall winning percentage in favor of trying to farm more damage

People who play to win expect people to do their roles and coordinate team plays.

Dmg Farmers care more about having top dmg, if done properly you help the team win.

There is a 3rd category that i'm in, XP farmers. We only care about maximizing dmg/kills, assists, spots and surviving long enough. People abuse this category by taking lights/medium tanks to the heavy flank. On NA team don't always go one direction, the split like pubs hoping everyone plays their role.

Positions where you have shots on tanks and where you have useful shots on useful tanks are very different. You can sacrifice all map control to get positions where you can shoot full hp tanks, or you can deal less damage but take out guns quickly from better positions.

If you want to do better, try to win more. The damage will come with that. Don't try to do more damage because you'll just play worse and ruin the game for your teammates.

I agree, although I want to do more damage to grind my tank quicker, so long as I get a few shots in and my team does their job so we win, I'm satisfied.

In the majority of the games the tank types are equal on both teams and sometimes there are 2 heavy tanks on one team and 0 heavy tanks on the other. That must be a mistake in the matchmaking right?

Matchmaking gets less strict as players spend more time waiting to get people in games in a reasonable amount of time. So in cases like the one you described that may have been the most balanced the mm could make. Also mm has to factor into account elo values for both teams to make them somewhat equal.

I’ve often said ratings should be strictly tech tree tanks. However it won’t change the fact that really skilled players will make it to higher levels than the unskilled who just bought a premium yesterday and don’t have the basics down.

The whole point of ratings is that it rewards (in theory) better players and sorts then out from less skilled. There are some people who game the ratings system and perhaps WG can make some improvements that will fix it.

All in all I’m starting to enjoy ratings more than pubs each week. It reminds me of when tier 10 used to only have the top players and was very competitive and challenging.

I don’t need to win every game as long as I can have a pretty equal skilled teams and the challenge of winning on skill or losing and learning.

3k dmg isn’t even that high...I think you need to just take a break after a couple of losses maybe, teams seem to really frustrate you. They’re always going to be a factor, on both sides, a double-edged sword. Just get used to it. We all like to let out a bit of steam, but no use raging constantly over bad players. It’s just a game

what do you do if the whole team go town/heavy side when enemy has 2-3 med/lt and you are the only one with high enough iq to watch the flank? going with the team is of course the only option left but you also feel like you have to watch the flank while trying to do damage on that side, it's not simple

Most pro's wr in ratings averages out to close to 50- 55% in ratings. I've seen a handful of people have above 60% in one season of ratings. Everyone wr in ratings is lower than pubs, just because you have a 60%+wr in pubs does not translate to the same in ratings. My reasoning is the higher you go the more stronger the players are (on average) so mistakes made by weaker players tend to be costly.

It would be far worse. Why ? Because I have 6k+ rating. Players who use tier 8 in rating battles usually have lower rating (on average) in comparison with those who play on tier X. For example, everyone from top-30 rating plays on tier 9-10, so it's way harder to be matched with others on tier 8 when you have a very high rating.

Thus, I always wait for a longer time in case of 8 tier. It have started since 5500 rating.

No no no. I mean another thing. Look, the matchmaking mechanic in rating battles works in a different way if we compare it to random matches. It tries to collect players with ± the same rating points to form a lobby. For example, it collects a lobby with players who have 4000-5000 rating points, it doesn't collect people randomly. So a person with 2000 points won't be able to play in the same lobby with a person who has 6000 points.

And here is the problem. Less people who have high rating (5000+) play on tier 8. It means that you will wait for a longer time on tier 8 despite the fact that there are more players, because even if there are like 20-30 players in the golden league, there are less people with high rating.

In comparison, on tier X it's way easier to collect a lobby with 14 players who have high 5000 rating. Thus i wait for shorter period of time to be matched.

Part of the NA distributions could also be due to high queue times. Anyone can be in diamond if they play long enough but lots of players are turned away from playing ranked a lot due to the queues. I'd probably be in diamond this season if I could actually get into games and play. Also how many people are just getting slapped into gold and then not playing? Feel like the statistical analysis you all have shown is interesting but also very surface level rather than in depth on why NA's distribution looks like it does.

Yeah, I started yday, managed 11 battles... 🙂 Actually had a few really nice battles where people really worked as a team, focusing low hp targets, pushing to get him cleared even when receiving some damage in return. When you do great and lose, the game offers you extra rewards at the end of the battle. This is an acknowledgement you did great compared to your team. Well winrate is the percentage of games you win not the percentage of games you did well in and lose + what you win. If this was the case my entire clan would be at 85%+ winrate which dosnt really make sense

Winrate shows your win rate, it's basic but it seems you won't admit it, if you want a statistic that doesn't show your performance as a teamplayer but personal just take wn8

Even if you carried the team, it's sometimes just not enough to win, that's where the 55% wr and 62% wr differentiates themselves, because a 62%'s limit where he can't win anymore is higher

In other words, if you feel that your team is the only reason why you have lower winrate than 65%, carry harder and skill issue

I also think the rating battles & WR system should be merged and solo queue only. Call it rating or ranked, whatever. Call the other mode casual or unranked, used to grind stuff. The main focus of the game should be ranked and that's where WR should be valued. Then loss prevention systems could be added on top of that.

If you dislike that over 1 game you don't get rewarded then you need to remember all the games where you play badly and get carried, and remember to actually look over useful sample sizes. Hopefully you should then realise that you really really don't need to ruin wr like you suggested...

Fun fact @primal dagger if you look at the top player in ratings in EU and NA they hover close to 50-55% in ratings while they have a 60-70% wr in pubs. If you implement a ratings style mm to pubs wr would not matter anymore.

What he meant is that rating which already has your described system makes players focus on personal scores and not on winning. TVP perfect example, it deals huge damage but doesn't contribute in assist, doesn't contribute by distracting enemy since it's an autoloader which leaves after dumping damage and doesn't like team play at all since it's just spliting potential damage of the clip. That's why TVP so appreciated in ranked but not really in pubs

In other words, why would I contribute about winning if when I farm on afk enemy I win anyways
