I believe this has something to do with the shell starting at the back of a tank's breech when it's fired. This means that CzechBot was technically gun blocking the Grille at the moment it fired. Some weird physics happened, and suddenly the shell is on the backside of the E50M's turret

The most likely conclusion I draw is that some server lag/packet loss the Grille had caused the server to "think" he was behind the E50M: look where the Grille's gun is pointing in the replay, and the fact that the shot (according to wotinspector) came from 5.6m away, this disproves @astral acorn theory of the shell getting magicked to the rear, due to the fact it would have hit the gun instead.
Then, the server shows the actual position of the Grille to both the M60, and E50M.

I believe that lag on the Grille's end may have caused this, for if it were on @vague sonnet 's end, he would have most likely had a ghost shell

Perhaps the server quickly moved the Grille to his proper location; if you have ever received a period of high latency, and then your latency went back to normal, often times your tank literally slides or sometimes teleports to its ACTUAL location, simply put, where you should have ended up without the lag.

I believe that it is indeed the Grille who has lag and this is lag compensation gone wrong

My explanation is that the Grille shot as soon as he had line of fire on the M60, i.e. when he came around the corner. However, because he has massive lag (300-500) the server the server only gets it like half a second later.

Then lag compensation comes into play where the server basically rewinds a few hundred milliseconds and then calculates the shot, however, the server only seems to take the tank with lag and the tank being aimed at into account for this.

As the shells always start at the gun breech and as already half a second passed the E 50M just about moved into the shell’s path where it then unintentionally shielded the M60.

On a side note, the reason why you continue moving when you disconnect is because your inputs always trigger a continuous motion that persist until you actively cancel it. This allows smooth movement despite only having a few discrete orders. It also saves data.

Imagine if it wasn‘t so, then your tank would constantly accelerate and decelerate because until your device sends the next package telling the server that your tank goes forward the server would just cancel you going forward and initiate stopping.

The reason why the turrets turn back is because you don‘t actually aim in a certain direction (relative to your hull) but you aim at a certain point in the game world

Nobody is hitting Mach 5. The SR-71 could top out at a little over Mach 3. The only fighter that could do over Mach 3 is the Mig25 and it would ruin the engines trying. there are still some fighters that can cross into Mach 2 but the majority at this point max out right below mach 2.

A Super Hornet with weapons would need a tail wind to break mach 1 and as soon as it did it they would need to slow down again to refuel.

Hell it's not widely known but the Tomcatters did some DACM training against the Raptors out of Langley before they gave up their Tomcats back in 2006. I've said it before but the Tomcat community didn't do themselves any favors. All through the 80's they thought they were too good for air to ground. Meanwhile the Hornet was able to set themselves up as the jack of all trades. Add in the Hornet a2a kills in Gulf War 1 (the Iraqis ran from the Tomcats as soon as they detected the radar, they learned a harsh lesson from the Iranians) and the tailhook 91 scandal, it's honestly surprising the Tomcat made it through the 1990's.

It basically came down to either the Tomcat or the Intruder was going to be retired. The only way the Tomcat would make the cut is if they could get it into the precision bombing business (the Hornet targeting pod sucked). The work of Snort Snodgrass and others made the Tomcat dropping bombs happen and the rest is history.

If the Tomcat had been able to live up to it's full potential sooner I have no doubt that it would still be flying to this day.
