The caliber rules only apply to AP and APCR. Those shells normalise and ricochet (autobounce).

Normalisation is the reduction of the impact angle of the shell. The lower the impact angle, the lower the effective armour that needs to be penetrated.

Autobounce makes shells ricochet that have an impact angle higher or as big as 70°. Ricocheting shells continue flying.

2-Caliber-Rule (not confirmed as existent in Blitz):
If the shell is more than twice the size of the nominal armour,
the normalisation is increased by 1.4 x 5 (for AP, it's 2 for APCR) x caliber of the shell / nominal armour of the tank

In short, the impact angle is further reduced by a significant amount, increasing your chance of penetration

3-Caliber-Rule:
If the caliber of the shell is more than three times the nominal armour, autobounce never occurs

That's your wn8, and that's why popular tanks have such a high wn8 bar that you can get 3000 damage games in tier 10 and still have an above-ish average wn8.

How big were they in person? Mitchells always seem small in photos, especially on the ones taken before the Doolittle Raid where there was like 20 of them packed on the deck of that carrier.

The mitchel definitely felt cramped, barely any room at all, the B-17 felt really big in the main fuselage, the bomb bay was weird to walk through as well
