If the DPM’s terrible, you’re better off with making sure each shot counts. Go with calibrated.
I usually go with DPM for tanks that already have high penetration (TDs) and mediums.

In pubs, never run calibrated. I used to run calibrated on my tier X meds, but then I had a stretch where I accidentally ran rammer, and didn’t even realize it because the pen difference was so minimal, but the damage output was so much better. And now I’ve taken calibrated off of basically everything and never looked back
Running calibrated is just shooting yourself in the foot. It’s a noob trap. Calibrated makes you work so much harder to deal damage because it actively hampers you from doing damage when you get opportunities to

The vast majority of bounces you get are from missing the target, not from failing to pen the armor you were aiming for. And not only that, but calibrated ONLY helps when you’re a shooting a target with just enough armor such that you can’t pen with rammer but can with calibrated. And thus is actually exceedingly rare in practice from my observation
On the other hand, running rammer maximizes your ability to deal the damage. When you play well, and you manage to catch enemies in the open, get a crossfire, hit them from the flank, rush isolated tanks, etc... rammer is there to make sure that you make the most of every opportunity you get to actually deal the damage when it counts. And all of these situations, you’re going to pen them, calibrated or not

I don't think so... There is a time when you need to run CS rather Rammer/ventilator. For example is the AMX-13 90 where you rather squeezing the AP burst damage rather than fast reloading and spam APCR since your penetration is pretty much can't be helped. It's not about how you squeezing dpm with rammer/vent or how effective your shot with CS... I think it's much more about 'how is it working well it's on the battle'. If you think it's working well, you are not gonna complain so much even if you playing a worse tank. So my point is see how it's fit on your playstyle.

honestly, I've pointed out before that there are several specific interactions with certain tanks where CS makes the difference between penning or not penning. Going into 320mm of HEAT pen and 310 APCR pen at Tier 10 means that you can pen IS-7 cheeks, E100 cheeks, 113 cheeks, Jageroo cheeks, E5 cheeks, and others on flat and slightly angled ground. this means that equipping CS on Tier 10 mediums allows them to pen through a lot of tanks frontally instead of trying to flank around them, which is rarely a viable and safe option. its also the reason I've started running CS on my IS-7 and Mk 6, so because flanking in those tanks is almost impossible

@flint patio Ah yes, shooting at the frontal turrets of hull down heavy tanks. 10/10 productive position and excellent play, and totally not burning valuable time by shooting the least important tanks on the map.
CS or not, those shots are far from reliable, and are almost always a complete waste of time in pubs. If this is a common occurrence for you, then there are clearly mistakes being made. In pubs, there's pretty much always much better options than trying to brawl hull down heavy tanks, and again, even with CS, these are shots you're probably not going to pen even with the extra pen.
If being more effective in awful situations is your cup of tea, then have at it. But for others who prefer to not get outplayed, rammer is still the clearly stronger choice

Don’t make me laugh. First of all, this claim is factually dubious at best. Here’s 3 of the turrets you mentioned yourself vs. Chieftain and IS-7 with APCR with and without CS. As you can see, there’s literally 0 difference in pennable area on the turret

- The actual benefit afforded by CS is practically negligible in pubs
- The number of scenarios where you will benefit from it are few and far between
- The number of scenarios where it does help are the scenarios where you’ve been completely outplayed.
And no matter the caliber of player, the benefit of rammer is clear.
Heck, I’d even argue that rammer is even better for non-super unicums, because even if we were to cede that CS makes hull down heavies easier to pen (which is again, factually dubious), running CS would just make a noob more inclined to take a fight he can’t win, just because he sees a small non-red sliver on a turret.
And regardless of that, no matter the caliber of player, there is always a benefit to being able to shoot more when you get the chance to, and denying yourself that perk because you want to be more “effective” in an incredibly rare and disadvantageous scenario is just stupidity

I'd take CS over Rammer. Rammer gets you about 230 more DPM on average for tier X mediums. This is less than one shot a minute extra. I'd much rather run CS which will allow me to be more effective in nearly all positions than Rammer which allows me to be more effective in certain situations.

Play second line, try not to get hit too much. You do have a decent amount of armor (if you angle correctly) to fight other meds but you should stay at a distance or flank to fight heavies. Try to permatrack things.

Spaced armor absorbs HE shots and HEAT shots so for instance the Sheridan has spaced armor all around it to a td it looks like you could pen it with he but if you shoot the spaced armor it will only do splash damage. And with heat rounds because they are chemical rounds they depend on molten copper to pen armor so once the round hits something it detonates causing the copper to be shot out in a stream. Now if you put spaced armor between you and the heat round it detonates on the spaced armor but wont pen the actual tank armor

@pallid void tier ten crates are pretty expensive, you will only get a few with $30 so its likely you wont even get the tank. I really reccommend you do not buy the crates because chances are you are not going to get $30 worth out of it
