You see, grinding in war thunder works differently

Vehicles are put into separate ranks and to unlock rank 7 for example you need (lets say) 5 vehicles of rank 6 of the same nation so its not just unlocking 1 row but rather progressing the whole nation

Uh you see, normal techtree vehicles effectively grind -+1 rank each so lets say you have a rank 4 vehicle

Said rank 4 vehicle grinds effectively rank 3 to rank 5 but except those ranks it will only earn very little experience

Its different for premiums though, they earn -all+1 so a rank 4 premium can effectively grind rank 1 to rank 5

And requiring multiple vehicles of the same rank to unlock the next rank is because you can not spawn once but multiple times in ground battles which leads to a better experience since, like 70% of the time, you get oneshot

That's one thing that helped me get started as well.
The best thing to do is getting to know the game with lower Tiers.
Wouldn't go much above T6 for the start, that Tier will teach you quiet a bit

The Szakal is probably one of it not the hardest T11 to play well if I'm honest.
No armor and mobility that can get you into big trouble if you're not carefull

tbh i hate playing the BT 110 in waffentrager mode, not because it's a bad tank. It's just less fun. The upside, however, is that I absolutely love Von Kruger and Ermelinda as characters and their VA's do a superb job.
