Same with the heavy side, there isn’t really a perfect sidescraping spot or a hull down spot. You can go down the ditch but you aren’t invulnerable. Other maps have it much easier to use cover

@river canopy I actually enjoy those incredibly slow battles. I get why a lot if people don’t, but it’s a 1v1 battle of minds between the two captains, and you really get to know who’s better.
Hellas is enjoyable for me I can make any tank type work it’s pretty flexible especially for heavies
You can basically go anywhere on that map in a heavy and do decently well
Hells is very team depending map , if your meds /lights doesn’t go to right side you will lose the game for sure

Most of the time, the team that gets the caps first wins, because counterpushing Canal is basically impossible unless there’s a massive skill difference between 2 teams. And in my experience, there tends to be a lot of upsets where the worse team beats a clearly better team simply because the winner on Canal is whoever gets the caps first
There’s no rotations or strategy. Basically one side will just sit and camp because they have cap advantage, and the other side waits for the caps to reach 800, then try to last minute reset the cap or kill someone
I personally get a ton of enjoyment out of the incredibly tense minute and a half or so you have to plan out that last-second move, although I definitely understand why people don’t like it
As an actual caller, there’s 0 fun in an RNG crapfest of a map

@grizzled mango A favorite is hard to pick out, but I do like Black Goldville, Alpenstadt, and Faust. I also liked Himmelsdorf when it was in the rotation
I agree with @river canopy on how canal is terrible for comp. nobody likes sitting for 5 minutes just to do a last minute push that the enemy team has known you will do since the game started

@prime sleet still dont agree, the td spots arent hidden as well as you guys are implying. I often turn to the island on the left side if I dont have a hull down tank for the middle or a sidescraping heavy for the right. Then you can either push in to get some shots in their rear or wait for them to overpeak (as said). Pushing their side can actually work too. If people contesting for the mid get shot from their rear outta nowhere they gotta turn. Guess who can then have shots in? Your teammates contesting for the hill. The TD spots arent as OP as implied, a shot fired spots the td immediately. Have any good reaction time and get the shot in. Then from the island the tds can be flanked. This map is all about the crossfires you establish. If you only send your tds to camp at the back and everyone to go mid it’ll just be some boring holding game

@prime sleet nope, saying nail down the tds if they annoy you that much and place tanks in positions so that they cant fire all the time without the risk of getting nuked
I think it’s less about how hidden the TDs are but more about how sitting at the back allows them to have a view on all 3 lanes - It can cause stagnation in the game, mainly at high tiers because people will be too scared to establish a flank or move as most high tier tank destroyers are packing significant alpha.
However, it is not uncommon to see a good flank via the island or town. It really does depend on your timing, and some coordination.
I believe that the TD spots at the back seem more of an issue than it is because your average teammate is a potato. Chances are your light or medium drivers will die immediately going up hill, or they sit in mid with the heavies and completely ignore trying to establish any sort of flank. Not to mention your average heavy tank driver sitting at the back, or dying because they sit in the open on mid.
Flushing out dug-in TDs at the back does require coordination from your teammates as without it, the TDs will likely deal with you if you try to make the play and your teammates don’t do anything to support.
Unfortunately, asking for coordination from the average player is too much, which is why in random battles it’s likely that the last few tanks will most certainly be the TDs at the back as they could keep resetting camo because people are too scared to make a play against them until end game when the map opens up more.
As a result, gameplay can slow down considerably compared to other maps, and can be quite boring for people, which is why people generally dislike mines.
Thats just my take on it.

Anyone run into weird spotting patterns at the B spot on Canyons before? I spent 15 secs with this 49 never IDing me. User has 18k battles so crew explanations seem unlikely.

Faust is the map I have the most intense and fun battles for me
Faust looks pretty cool. Could easily imagine it being in another fps shooter game (like halo or cod). Aside from that I'm kinda neutral on it.

Castilla is the one original map they haven’t changed. It’s also one of the best maps. If you don’t like it you clearly don’t know all the spots you can work with on the map. If you’re going to rework a map rework port bay b/c the team with the most competent mediums wins 90% of the time
Lmao Castilla is awful literally all of it is dominated by camping TDs that don't have to more more than 20m. Want to push meds side? Sorry you can't expose over the top, can't push to far round the bottom, you just gotta wait. Want to push heavy side? Hahahaha nice joke. Want to push mid? Still covered by TDs and crossfire from everywhere. It's literally impossible to be agressive until all the reds or all the greens are gone.
Port bay may be very one sided but at least it isn't dominated by unskilled campers and being agressive is rewarded.
Castilla is fine. You can push med side an create a Crossfire from the middle. TDS only have a shot if you’re not smart and go into their shooting lanes. Heavy hill is decent but not where I usually go, although there is cover there
The shooting lanes are everywhere. Can't push up on meds side unless you go round the edge and then you are in a very weak position. Can't push down on meds side because TDs cover it too. Heavies side is impossible to push unless the reds have no campers which is never going to happen. You can sit there and do nothing, just like on meds side but that's just terrible map design.
Castilla isn't that hard to push on either side as long as your team is somewhat competent

The meds side is certainly easier to push, but it is one sided and still very hard. The heavies side is fine if you have at least 2 tank advantage and all of them are willing to push, but again that isn't exactly common
Hella’s is top tier bs for tours. Hate it. There’s way to much crossfire lines to be able to do anything on the heavy side, med cap is too far away from the heavy caps to be able to be of any use. Out of all the tournament maps there are we always get on hellas and get rekt the 3rd tour of the tournament. Maybe actually put maps in people like

the only thing it’s good for is being a poorly designed map, like there is only one actual good spotting position
yeah you get an almost view on the whole map on one spot, also like the outer mediums side very few people go there, but i don't want to digress
it’s great in a speedy light tank/medium, grants you massive vision to all the map, but I see like no one use it except myself
among all the battles i've did there and saw there (tournamet and training, so 7 players with strategy and communications), I noticed how the strategies are not as complex as how a team would play canal or vineyards, and whoever tries to be more strategical or defensive mostly end up losing, probably the map is the best in class for a "blitz" brawling battles, but i really don't think it would fit well in professional tournaments
it’s so open, and the ruins offer nearly no cover except from the small trench under the bridge thingy
yeah also that, the map is extremely small and crossfire can come from anydirection, the "isolated" areas can be summed up in the underpassage and spawn hill that divides heavy side from med side

castilla was changed, they removed the corner hill climb
they removed a lot of locations... the motivation is because you can get there in fun game modes...
In Castilla, only Med's Shot Lanes are everywhere. Behind Heavy hill, Enemy Td's can't shot you, but the meds can. If your team don't win on Med's side... You have a very little chance to win. That's why I love this map. There's challenge.
Finally someone who shares my opinion on this map !
I enjoy Castilla a lot when its a good vs good team since its intricate, but it can be one of the most frustrating maps in the entire game with a bad team.
It’s a unique map. Too many maps have the small town and low rolling ridges
I definitely think Middleburg should be reworked. Maybe make the overall hill height lessened so it's easier for slower tanks to get up to hill? Also rework some of the cover so that ATGMs cant just dominate from behind cover.
Or remove ATGMs
You rarely get profficent missile users now
missiles have been rendered useless for me now, they're just annoying when you can't see the tank on the map and you get hit randomly. In the case of Middleburg, the hill is full of cover that hides the missile shooter but doesn't hide the target well enough.

Please WG put Mines back to tiers 5/6 and below. At tiers 7 and up it sucks. TDs tend to camp and why shouldn’t they? But if their team gets overrun on the hill they are screwed. The map is so bland and leads to more one sided matches than any other map most of the time.

Fort Despair almost does too or at least needs a major rework. It’s pretty predictable and just not a fun map to be on. Especially in higher tiers.
Proving grounds is the tutorial map. And it's so small that tier X tanks would spot each other the second they spawn in, and other than a pillbox in the middle, there's no cover whatsoever

@hazy beacon Eh Fort Despair does suck to a degree. People tend to camp in the bushes or you get into a brawl fest in the tight area. Anybody who pushes up to cap if they don’t spot anything super early tends to get hammered. It’s not a fun map. Also I didn’t say I hated Dead Rail or anything like that but said that Martin Dogger said it was broken. Mines though needs to be way different than PC Mines.
many players tend to fight in that campy side of the map, i never do that i just lurk in center near to castle and the map is perfectly balanced
I dislike alphenstrat. The spawns are so imbalanced on the medium flank.
Lost temple and mirage had better gameplay at high tiers than mines
Lost temple should be replaced by dynasts pearl
lost temple wasn't that bad at high tiers. Mirage however was always played like this: one or two meds rush the bush on their side situated next to the cap, spot all of the heavies. Then meds would just have one giant stalemate, and the only hope was for heavies to win their side and win the elevated bushy area
Idk if I’d say I would want lost temple at higher tiers but it would definitely better than mines

Honestly one could argue all the older maps (especially the really old ones) could use complete overhauls or get removed from the game. New Bay isn’t among the old ones realistically but it needs an overhaul too imo.

Fort Despair I don't mind, it's surprisingly complex considering the size.

New bay has so much wasted space, also the spawns are not exactly balanced.
We all like maps with ambush ability’s ,heavy tanks need corridors to be effective, TD,s need open spaces and some cover light tanks needs spotting bushes and space to move , mediums filled the gap between light and heavy and does both jobs a bit less effective than the light and heavy , a good map for light tanks and TD,s has a lot of open space to flank and a lot of vegetation to hide , maby it’s possible to make Siegfried line map fit in blitz .
Or Ardennes to recreate the heavy battle of WWII with nature as cover
It takes an other skill set to play more diverse is more challenging

Dynasty's pearl is very bland and it absolutely sucks to be playing paper tanks on that map (FV4005, Grille etc)

Ok, I'm starting to get kinda sick of Castilla
It's at the point where it's not fun for any tank class anymore. As a TD, you can only sit in the obvious spots that everyone knows how to avoid now
As a med, you have little choice but to contest the castle, and then you have to play passive and wait for the enemy to make mistakes first (or your teammates), which is super boring
And as a heavy, it takes you like a full minute before you can even get into a spot to even do anything, and then you're forced to play passive because of the TDs
It's just getting real slow, and real obnoxious to play

Typically on Castilla, you need meds to take the church hill and heavies to take the windmill hill so you can create a crossfire. TDs are kinda just at the mercy of the team's decisions
If I'm in a particularly fast heavy that has a good turret, I'll often rush into an aggressive spot if I get the right spawn

You can get there in a lot of tanks. I do it in my Chieftain Mk6 all the time and I basically light up the entire enemy team

The road to A cap has no hard obstacle, no slope hole for u to hide out those nasty tanks at the hill. The A cap don't have much obstacle. Those house just actually useless cuz their direction isn't help people at A cap and incoming tanks from the road can easily shot u too. The C cap such, bad, lack of some slightly slope

Normally C and B is the go to site, i consider A as a flanking route. I see it a bit similiar to mines where one spot decides most of the outcome of the match that it renders other spot not as vital to go to

Nope lots of people do, it's too campy for me and it rewards staying back too much with all the bushes and exposed spots you have to push through.

I love hellas Med side pubs, I hate Hellas in tournaments.
Hellas is great, no 1 meta fits it all kind of map which makes it more unpredictable. Also camping like a bot gets punished on the map which is also great

@nocturne mortar its easy to punish camping, sitting in a corner wont get you far on that map... compare with dead real or canal and you know what i mean. I never get rekt by tds on hellas because i rek them

Spots a long way from the battle are the best spots to take for most players, so the games almost always consist of heavies and meds camping which is awful
I play aggressively on Hellas, I find camping detrimental as I find the best spots to be near the middle.
Camping is always detrimental, the agressive positions in the middle require watching several directions which is way too difficult for most people and so they go further back at the obvious camping spots looking meds side near the middle and the edge, or on the camping spots on the heavy side

I always love when they come out with a new map, because it seems to take advantages away from players that if it was any other map they've played a million times over..

Everything goes back to normal tho after a week... People find power positions, youtubers make map strat vids, etc. @fleet vale

For a lot of actually good players, they have more of an advantage because they’re generally a lot more flexible, so even in an unfamiliar map they’ll be able to use the map to their advantage without actually knowing it. It’s the 52-55% players that are at the greatest disadvantage because they rely the most on pre-planned positions that they like

Everything is done server side so its not as if they can shoot thru walls
@maiden spoke the cap on mines used to be oh the hill way back when the old mines map was in use. They reworked the map completely and moved the cap. I like how it's off to the side.

What maps have tier limit ? What what tiers are the limit ?
Off the top of my head I believe
Mines and Fort despair have no tier limits
Copperfield is Tiers 1 - 7
Yukon is Tiers 4 - 10
Hellas is Tiers 5 (?) - 10
New Bay is Tiers 7 - 10
I believe Normandy starts from Tier 5 or 6 up to 10
I know Lost Temple goes up to tier 7, but not sure where it starts, probably at tier 4 or 5.
This is off the top of my head, so if there is a mistake someone will correct me. Also, it’s not all the maps so someone can try to fill in on the rest. @stray oasis

hmmm back to that landmines thing....it could be a fun option for training rooms or even in gravity mode....imagine you hit a sweet ramp and at the top is a landmine that launches you even further into space...

Ngl Yukon does look kinda cheap compared to the other maps. The colors don’t look very realistic. I wouldn’t mind if they touched it up a bit. I like the terrain though

Yukon is a winter environment, and you compared it to summer environments, so you can't really say they look more realistic. Actually I think Yukon is the best looking map, and so do a lot of the people on the forums

I find a lot of maps need reworks, especially for tank destroyer spots. There simply aren’t enough obvious tank destroyer options for the newer player, such as Desert Sands or Dynasty’s Pearl. At least with newer maps like Yukon there are a couple of positions if you know where. But all in all I think a map rework update/s is in order.

@quaint bay If you go to the side closer to the middle, yeah you're gonna get shots in your side, but if you go a little bit over it's not that open. I've noticed that the medium side though is the spot most people go. But there's not many TD spots over there that i've found
Im not sure how play TDs like the emil on Megalopolis. The map is both very open on the side with angles for the Emil to use and very cramped and lacking cover in the city area, and I cant seem to play effectively in either area. What should I do?

Its one of the few maps where u actually use the entire map over multiple games, which is why I like it. Castilla and canal have that as well.
Rockfield has one side which just is better (in encounter) which just makes it boring. Similar story for a lot of other maps.
mines is tiny....i dont think its meant for the higher tiers....although it makes for some chaotic fury exchanges, i guess that can be fun.... my least favourite is Faust, its like, either you line up and poke shots at each other on the one side, or you go zooming round the far side and possibly get outnumbered.....once we did amazingly, where we ALL went around the far side and divided them up, but that rarely happens.... favourite, im not sure....i like pretty much all of them, im well pleased with the design elements in them all, the look the feel the taste the smell wait what

Imo the maps that should be excluded from Tier VIII-X battles are Castilla and Himmelsdorf. The heavy side of Castilla needs a rework, you can't go forward and do your heavy role without getting bullied by the tds, the game relies almost exclusively on the meds. For Himmelsdorf, the med side looks more like a heavy side which makes this map very hard to play for tanks with weak armor

Here's a tip on mines for meds and lights, don't rush hill just hug the rock at the opposite side of it and farm

Getting competitive players on that map is actually a pain when everybody is gonna be passive
Mines is an awful map for high tiers. Team that wins the hill wins the game 95% of the time. Windmill side is too open. Nobody goes town because it is tiny and TD coverage makes pushes and rotations impossible without bleeding. Squishy mediums are forced to contest hull-down heavies. TDs have nowhere to peek-a-boom so they just camp and hit people who overextend on the hill. Matchmaking can screw you over with bad tank comp on this map more than any other. If you are in a tank like the e5 you will have a great time. If you are in a tank like the batchat you will want to exit to garage
Basically your only chance to do anything in paper tanks is to rush the hill which can cost you a lot of hp Bc ppl preaim it. The windmill side just doesn’t provide reliable shots and you put yourself in a lot of risk
I kind of like mines high tier it's a break from playing the much bigger maps , I play American TDs and I find it better to be among the front line rather than in the back, you can really rattle the team by doing some big damage on the front.
In my opinion, ideally you'd want a heavy with 2 TDs, or 2 heavies with one TD go the town route and everyone else push hill to win. If one side is getting hammered the other side better start being aggressive and begin to push.
I'd also be happy with a slightly reworked and slightly bigger version of mines, they should really have some other type of ledge on the heavy side to counter the lights that push hill and just fire down on the heavies.

Ehh Castilla seems ok in my experience. Definitely not the heavy's ideal map, but it's not very exposed. There's at least enough cover to not get easily sniped by TDs from sector 2, 3, and 8. Mediums and lights are more reliable than heavies in this map since the side that gains control of the castle area will get a great advantage- gunning down foes attempting to close in or pin down enemy heavies by the windmill.

Castilla is pretty bad, TDs dominate any pushes from heavy side, meds side is very unbalanced and pushing is pretty hard and then centre is almost impossible to play unless you are in a fast heavium and the reds aren't smart at all. Even then centre is still pretty useless too. It's just controlled by campers too much really

Continuing the mines discussion, I’ve had games where I rush the island and shoot across to the open section of the hill and do good damage.
It's not that good of a spot unless the reds are super slow getting up to hill, and the 4 tds in the back will tear you apart.

BL-10 has more DPM now, also more shell velocity, which is helpful.
Anyway, I personally think 268 sucks because in general, it's just not enough of a firepower upgrade over a heavy to justify losing the turret and ~600 HP, and the armor. This is a strange comparison, but take FV-215b vs. 268. FV heavy has more DPM, more accuracy, can hull down better, has a turret, and 500 more HP. 268 only gains 240 alpha and penetration, but being marginally better at camping just does not justify losing the flexibility you gain by playing a heavy instead
Marginally??? 268 has a amazing camo rating. That 240 alpha is much more punishing. The 268 is fast and can relocate relatively easily and the penetration is worlds better than any heavy could dream of. I mean there’s definitely reasons why 268s get so much use. And I feel like you could use the argument you’re making to make other tds look bad as well. They just serve a distinct role. Granted some strats definitely don’t have any tds but usually when there are it’s a 268.

Problem is, they nerfed the DPM of the 268 for some reason, so now it has a reload worse than Obj. 704 and doesn't gain much
268 is kinda useless now because it doesn't have the health, the armor, or a turret even, and the DPM got reduced. It might still be mobile but it can't find many angles to work

268 is still used in comp quite a bit. (Certain strategies) and E3 is also used occasionally.
Thanks to the speed boost the E3 is quite a bit more useful than the 268 but both have their perks, and TDs will always be useful and played by the average camping noob 🤷♀️

I'm not no expert but let's say theres a set number of players, wouldn't having more players in a match not effect server performance(possibly device performance instead). Since there are more people in a single match there will be less ongoing matches at the same time thus weighing out the difference.
The more players there are the more information has to be exchanged. Each new player adds an extra data package for everyone, so effectively you have one data-package being sent to the server (yours) and then all the data-packages of all players being sent to you, and that for every single player. That means if you are alone you have one outgoing and one incoming package from the server. For two players you have two packages incoming and four packages outgoing from the server. For three it’s three in and nine out etc. (basically number of players in and number of players squared out). I use packages as a unit here that describes the average size of the information shared with the server and other players via the server (facing of the tank, aiming the gun, shooting and other commands). So there will be a lot more traffic with more players.
Another thing is that while all calculations are server-side there is a good bit of the game which is client-side, especially graphics and animations, but also the camera control. This means that adding more tanks add a greater strain on older devices

Mines is available on all tiers on the EU server. It’s very common in lower tiers and somewhat common in higher tiers

Yeah, tier seven to eight is usually the border (tier brackets are usually I-IV, V-VII and VIII-X). It may appear as though tier sevens don’t play on that map because when you are playing tier eights you won’t see it. It’s the same deal with Lost Temple and Copperfield
(The survey in your regional survey channel about maps at least somewhat confirms the existence of the tier VIII-X bracket and it lists some maps that are included and excluded there)

Sometimes a whole team go straight to heavy line and get ripped apart, mostly because it's way so small. 7 tanks, td stand behind, big heavy try to get sidescape position but the light still stay there to shoot as he scared to spot at the open area.

@fast knoll Honestly don’t expect to have learned all the map positions until you have like 5k battles, probably more. It takes a while. The biggest tip I have is whenever you get yourself in a bad position, try to remember to not go there or do something different next time, and when you discover a good position, try to remember to use it for future use. Basically try to learn from your past experiences, don’t just hit the battle button 5000 times and not have learned anything

It’s not poor map design, a Maus for example wouldn’t get stuck. If an enemy forces you to trap yourself that’s well played, just keep cool and avoid attempting to drive down stairs sideways

In mines,it's too risky to poke up when you are in a hulldown position.You just get rekt by tank destroyers that just sits at the back farming damage.
Also,when light and medium tanks flank on that island,it's very hard to shoot them because light tanks that rush to the middle hill has a high advantage and can just spot everyone.When you turn your turret to shoot at it,the light tanks on that hill can just poke out and shoot you easliy.

Island positions can counter hill easily, just play smart.
Going town is viable as well, one spawn does it better than the other though. You know where TD’s hide, so play around it. Again play it smart. If you play mid, don’t trade damage, punish overpeeks but don’t overpeek yourself. Tbf I rarely go mid to fight there even. Only tanks I’d take there are IS4’s with their turret, and some HD tanks and some others depending on team line up.
Mines is a map where you need to think where you go because a push can easily get punished. 99% of the losses are a result of a team trading poorly, not because team line ups or hill control or what not. I’ve won close games where we had a huge HP deficit “simply” by luring the enemies in making bad trades. That’s why I love the map. It’s not the simple lane fighting of maps like rockfield,...
Like imo rockfield as a map is far worse, but with the potential to be better. It is so boring to play there since every battle feels like the same old again. Maps like mines, castilla, canal, fort and more don’t have that imo. Ofcourse there always is repetition since the map sizes are small, but for rockfield its even worse since basicly only half a map gets used.
I usually go to the hill, but just to hold and provide spotting for my tds. As soon as the heavies arrive (if they arrive) I retreat and look for the village or the island to face some flankers unless I’m in a hulldown tank myself

I was watching a replay in Mines and I was wondering what WG could do to make this map more playable. It’s not a secret that Mines looks small, even when we know that is the same size of other maps.
My suggestion: remove the river and rework the island area turning it into a field or something else that could turn into another flank suggestion.
I can even imagine a supremacy base cap there, another one up hill (in the entrance of the rushing part) and another one in the currently cap area.
The river practically removes 20% of the map.

How is it possible that every new map that isn’t city based is unplayable? It’s either TD position being broken, one side being completely unplayable or aggressive positions giving no advantages. Yukon, Normandy, Hellas, Alpenstadt and low key Naval Frontier have that. Why can’t you make maps like Canal/Oasis/Vineyards/Mirrage/Black Goldville anymore?

You just have an issue with the playstyle this map promotes. Others love it for that. Variety is the key-word here, and Mines definitely does work in higher tiers so there’s no reason to remove it

Those are the two maps with dominant central positions. It’s a lot of hillfighting there
considering high tier matches and tds sitting on their spawn on castilla , meds or lights from castle can spot em , and city exists too
To be fair you can flank around on Mines and even better on Canyon
But you should be careful that you don’t get yourself into a crossfire between the tds and the main bulk of enemies, so it’s best to just take it easy on Mines and chill a bit until there is an opportunity, and on Canyon you can just circle around and drive up to the center and do whatever without much issue

Sitting in the mid for half of the game “trading shots” isn’t how the game was intended to be played and that’s literally why mines is a terrible map. Sitting around shooting at people’s red turrets and trying to snipe cupolas for 3 minutes isn’t dynamic gameplay, and there’s nothing on the map that promotes dynamic gameplay either. Want to flank? Yeah sure, go to the town where you can’t spot anything unless you overextend, making yourself a free 2k damage for camping TDs or even the people camping mid hill. Cap the base? We all know how that ends. What about the island? Again, terrible map design where nearly every single position can be spotted by the tanks in the mid. The positions that are “safe” have no shots, and if you poke to get shots have fun getting nuked by more c a m p i n g t d s.

Why are you comparing rock field with mines? At least on rock field you don’t HAVE to go to one place on the map or 100% lose the game. Even if everyone goes to the med side (which I’m guessing is the side you’re referring to), you can flank and get effective shots and without getting stuck.

Mines is more campy agreed, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing? It’s something else at least. I’d be down for a map expansion and a small rework to make the spawn balance a bit more even. But the idea of the map is fine imo.

On Mines there usually isn’t much action until one team pushes, I usually just sit at the hill and look what the enemy does. Mostly I go to the town to fight a bit over there until the tanks on the hill worked themselves down enough that I can comfortably play there, and from there on it’s either defending against enemy attacks or slowly working your way towards their tds
(In paper tanks, that is. Hulldown tanks go straight to the hill)
I do agree that mines just feels bad to play and i dont like it at all. It’s just too static gameplay and very hard to be flexible
On rockfield u can still flank more easily than on mines bcz the map is bigger

Where should I go with Standard B (and other tanks with weak armor) on the Mines map? Somehow if I go in the middle, mostly a big problem for me are tanks that have strong armor on the turret like Soviet tier 10.
@wet crag Depends on the spawn. On North Spawn, you can either fully take the hill, or make a play for the south island corner. Or you can wait under the hill for the South spawn heavies to play like morons and go through town, then ambush them.
From South spawn, your options are more limited, but you'll just have to be passive in general, either playing from the South island corner, or from your spawn, and then wait for the battle to develop, and then plug any holes in your team's defense

Town is only viable in a heavy, hill is a lost cause, and island only works if you’re uncontested
The priority is the hill. Heavies should not push town. Heavies should go hill and they should be ready to fall back and blunt an attack that comes from town. They should do this in a way that allows the green td's in the hills to support them. Heavies that initially push town usually cost the greens the game.
I always do better going town, take out whoever is there then flank those on hill
Taking out whoever's in the town rarely happens fast, and the reds are almost always covered by a camper so you will just bleed if you even think about pushing the heavies let alone all the way to the hill
Oh and the campers won't be spotted for any of this either so you can't even suppress them back a bit to get a push in until you start blind firing.
On the hill you can provide much more cover for the rest of your team and can easily reposition to stop a rush on the town or just spot then for your campers.

Taking out the heavies and whoever else is at town, if it doesn't happen fast odds are there aren't many at hill so your team can begin to push hill and flank. I often find my self with one other heavy able to hold the town flank and push it back relatively easily, if we can't push it back we can hold it off until others come.
Ehhh it gets very reliant on the team which I really don't like doing and any push in the hill in the middle is suicide until you know the game is won and even then you want to have got most of the kills out the way, and even then I'd still prefer to push through the river lol. You can push the town back but you can actually get the kills or that much damage without bleeding a lot

Does anyone have map tips for the Leopard 1 on Mines
Try to get an early shot on any meds/lights crossing to the hill.
Then retreat and keep a low profile until you know the entire situation (how many people are in town and if you can get some damage there, if the hill entry will fall soon on either side and how many are camping), and based on that information you either drive into town to farm a bit of damage (do not push the enemy through the town, that never works) before coming back to the hill entry if you think that a push is about to happen there soon (in either direction)
or if you have a lot of people at the hill entry you can drive to the island (but be careful and make sure that you’re alone first) to get some flanking shot, but retreat further back closer to your base if any opposition tries to meet you on the island (regardless of whether the enemy is already there or rotates there, if someone comes: retreat) because the island is kind of open and you want you fire support to shoot the enemy, not the other way round.
The most important thing is that you should not try to push alone and that you should always be prepared to retreat and help on another flank. Try to not be the main focus of attention and only fight over the hill entrance once most enemies don’t have enough hp to openly trade with you, because your turret armour is too bad for anything like that.

You have to be very careful. I pulled it off (and saw it being pulled off) a number of times but it’s very very risky and the reward is... meh. Maybe it’s just an EU thing
usually on NA 5 things happen on mines:
- they play hill correctly
- they yolo side on through hill in front of TDs and get nuked
- they go town like a bunch of mongoloids and get nuked by TDs while being utterly useless
- they camp river because they're pinned by TDs, do nothing, and then eventually die. or they yolo to the TDs and get nuked and die
- they sit in spawn
It actually works better in uprising because you can get away easier when you have invisibility
Yeah, Mines is a bit of a waiting game most of the time thanks to the tds, which is why I said for basically anything that you shouldn’t push but retreat
The safest spot to spot tds is actually the hill itself. The island can help you to get close but if any enemy is on the entrance of the hill you will drive into a crossfire and you are very easy to get rid off if anyone goes for you. If you are lucky it works but that is just luck

Talked about it a long while ago, couldn't find it so quickly resketched it.
I want a canyon/open top tunnel like feature where the blue is to make it riskier to just sit in spawn. Since Tds are often turretless having to deal with tanks from behind and infront adds risk.
The red spot is an extra ramp leading up to the hill making hill a bit more dangerous, while making it easier to just avoid tds camping spawn.
Yellow is some added rocks/objects that give some cover from hill, hopefully giving meds/lights and extra play ground where people in spawn will have a harder time just sitting in spawn as tanks can get closer easier.
As for the grey bit, I'm not fully sure of the idea but i was thinking about carving out a bit of space on the water level to exand that area to partly reach under the hill. Not terribly far but mainly to give even more protection from hill/spawn areas. It'd look similar to the waterfall area from oasis. Probably not game changing but more room to play.

Also I’m pretty sure that is the layout of the current mines map. On that map and several others in the game there’s a significant amount of dead space on the grid as is the case on the right side where he’s asking for another corridor
Since we’re talking about Mines I’ll add my own opinion on it. Low tiers it’s fine, in fact it’s quite enjoyable. As the tiers get higher, it becomes more and more... tedious to be used effectively. The best tanks I’ve seen perform on the map are the Lights and Leopard/ Soviet meds. As a person who has recently been opening himself up to various playstyles and various tank classes, I find that the large caliber tank destroyers really have a problem. This is just my experience, of course. The strategy essentially stays the same from the bottom tiers to the top: rush the hill and gain control as your heavies/ rest of your team flank. I have no problem with this strategy, it’s simple and incredibly effective. But I have a proposal. We all know that to some extent Mines on blitz is a smaller version of PC’s Mines. And as maps grow larger, more complex, with more details or features, large or small, why not add a larger Mines? If not the same map from PC, a map that expands on our current Mines? Make ut our own, add elaborate hills and ridges for mediums and a more diverse village/ town area for heavies to fight more effectively. With this in mind, push the spawns back, the village right more, and make the center of the map larger, just make it overall more complex and intriguing. Hell, you may not have to remove the current Mines for this either, it could be made into a new map entirely. Again, just my opinion on this, don’t take it too personally.
TLDR: Remodel Mines/ Add a new Mines with something larger and more complex than the current map.
Make Mines like 50% bigger in scale and it would feel much more dynamic and interesting imo.
Mines need to have more sheltered routes, all the three routes it currently has can be covered by TDs sitting in the exact same spot.

Remove the ability to climb anywhere near as far on the ridge, one spot big enough for one camper is enough, I'm #£@&# fed up of watching 3 meds lemming train up on that ridge every game.

Meds side is a bit unbalanced (one side has the corner camping position, one has much better spots on the castle so one spawn is pretty much always more defensive) so I would make the other side the opposite slightly so you can choose to be more defensive or agressive based off which side you pick. To do this the profile of the hill would have to be changed quite a bit, but it's definitely possible.
Then you have a map with less games where 3 are on the ridge and 3 are in the heavy corner and more options for different strategies from each spawn. Its a big change but that's why I don't work for WG 🤷♀️

These tiers are the ones I play, and yes plenty of meds go up the ridge. The bushes in the corner just give people an excuse to camp and pretend they are useful. They get maybe 3 or 4 shots on the whole game and sacrifice all map control and agressive positions. With much fewer positions on the ridge lines the heavy side isn't restricted by the campers as much like it is now (where any push or exposure is basically suicidal) and so you can widen the area to allow more positions so bad players in support tanks don't camp because "there's nowhere else to go"
Which heavy corner camping spots are you referring to? I know there’s one on the south spawn that’s completely useless but what about north spawn
Cant really speak about the heavy side since I never play heavys and actively avoid this side because you will get destroyed by TDs anyway

The team that has the big hill and the corner bush covering the med side of the castle "above" the city has a pretty big advantage
Why? Well everyone and his mother knows that there are atleast 3 people camping in spawn and atleast 2 of them are "big guns" and because no one knows how to counter these campers everyone will just stay on his side of the castle and snipe the heavy side while 1 of the teams might push because there is 1 player in it that knows what he does

That one corner (which I assume is the one covering A side) does have really good angles on the entire map and has a good angle on the castilla hill to force them to back off a bit or to get farmed. It’s a decent spot to take and used to be used a ton in cw for a hold there with a med or mostly a TD. But if an “avg” player takes that spot he ofcourse wont use it well, but that can be said about all spots on all maps doesn’t it? I see so few meds camping on the camping ridges as well :3
Can someone please point on the map for me which spot you are talking about? I cannot think about any position on the medium side that cannot be countered
Also, Castilla is in the fewest cases a standstill, that only really happens when everyone goes to the heavy side
Let me show you something about those camper positions in the back
That is a very offensive position using soft cover only
This is a more conservative position. Green arrows indicate when you shoot through an intransparent bush
This is roughly that you can expect from first positions, the line showing where each spawn gains/loses map control just by positions. Heavy side is almost completely equal apart from South spawn gets a useful position by rushing river, city is pretty much completely equal again. Then in the right of the castle the South spawn loses out ever so slightly, centre of castle is equal and then to the left the South spawn gets a huge advantage. They get to push all the way along the side of the castle, as well as having better positions to shoot onto the city on the left. On top of this the south spawn also gets much nicer and more agressive positions on the city on the left too. The advantage North spawn gets its the top left corner spot covering pushes, and maybe better ridge spots I guess?
The screenshot above is the main position that ruins games, absolutely no useful shots on anyone at all until it's too late. You can't see any heavies until they are pushing, you can't see the meds unless they are going by the side of the river. You don't get their fast enough to stop a tank going mid from river either, but you still get 3 people per game who sit up there all battle with no shots. It is literally useless until you have lost half your team and the reds are pushing stupidly hard in which case it's pretty much lost anyway. You can get maybe 3k damage up there if you play very well, but you will still lose because it's ineffective damage and way too late.
On the opposite side there is a camping spot in the corner that's even more useless than that one, but people are going to it more and more because they can't play unless it's camping and thing every map has the same positions each side.
The only possible agressive advantage is the spot at E2 on the picture above on the hill, and that's only useful because nobody expects it. It also relies on:
- the heavies exposing to left
- the reds all going heavy side/any reds on castle dying in the first minute
- there bring no campers on the ridge, or very unaware campers

You can prevent them from using the edge of the castilla hill above A simply by having a tank in the back corner, perfect LOS with that edge of the castilla hill.

Also, you can just stay back and wait for them to get impatient so you campers can take care of them

@thick wasp you see in this map what usually happens is heavys go hull down on the ridge dividing the side you looking at and meds go flank around so that means you should normally see action here, especially when heavys try to go around the corner, where the supremacy cap is. On the other side I guess the bushes far in the back of that side, like a hill there or you can try a closer support role if you have a td that allows for that

That’s why you need to relocate. If you see you have no meds on the medium side you need to leave that bush cause the enemy meds will flank you and go towards the harbor and just play a support role, shoot the enemy when they focusing on someone else.

The problem is that the new equipment system means that everyone and their mother is running optics
^ yeah that too, only tds dont run optics but they never really did, so the only option for WG to give an interesting out view range option for a tier X lt was to make the vickers LT have 280 @river canopy which is really stupid broken as you can't even reach certain spots like canyon C without getting spotted from B cap even if you hug the red line

again heavy tanks usually didnt so you could abuse view range against them quite easily, OG sp1c was a meme or RHM, OG sp1c was super fun to abuse, you had a nasty 2 shell 450 dmg in 2 seconds with 180 base pen and 250 heat
oh and 180 pen in the old days basically autopenned every tier 7 heavies frontal hull armor besides the tiger P which was a really bad tank back then anyway
I miss the old camonet + bino option though, some maps had great positions for tanks with that set up back in the day.

you wouldnt get spotted when you fired at even ranges like 210 meters 😂 against IS tanks, th RHM also had like 250 meters view range base which was basically the max at tier 8

No one used optics, because on heavies, u need the gun handling, and on meds, you already have view range advantage over heavies anyway

They did have actual destroyed models a while ago they were replaced for performance reasons

I don’t know what to do on castilla as a heavy, go light route and do no damage. Or eat heavy crossfire.
Just guess where'll the enemy be, on north spawn I always trying to cross the HT river to get a good cross firing angle by Sacrificing some HP if I'm not fast enough to get there.
I also usually go to mid near cap point to hit the enemy sides, while having some distance to help the meds out if they're being rushed.
Hear me out, using a vickers to climb the huge hill to spot c isn’t stupid. You will get 3k+ dmg at the expense of getting called a camper.

U might aswell deal 3k dmg while being in the frontline AND support ur team through your existence and spotting capability
just play td at that point, don't even bother playing light or meds
your heavies would end up in heavy cross fire against their tds, heavies and meds that got positions near church hill thingy
they can't even back off once they are in good heavy tank positions without getting deleted
camping in lights or meds in that way, is just not butchering your teammates but also your damage and chance to win
as the "meat shields" die too early before you could even pump out decent amount of damage

@amber plume I'm suggesting the water way, spawns should be moved accordingly as well.
The team on the north side of the map should spawn in by the town, and the team on the south end of the map, should spawn in near the checkpoint in the bottom right corner of the map
The hill in this case would likely need to have some terrain changed as it's horrible unbalanced as is, and should exist for scouts to spot and supress snipers
The heavies would have a better chance in mines since the teams would spawn fairly close together and don't need to travel far to the main combat lane.

Make a map a race track and the person who finishes 3 laps wins. Everyone gets fast tanks with speed boosts and they can shoot each other with he to track them
They could make a special mode for that probably, maybe they can have it in teams of two, and your teammate in the one who is not racing but instead in some sort of sniping position with the other teammates and they can snipe the tracks of opponents to help you get ahead

Going castle in heavies allows you to push through the small town pretty easily to obtain map control, but you need tanks to cover you from enemy MTs/LTs on the castle. This is much easier for the south spawn as they get cover from TDs camping on the hill

If you aren't going to windmill, at least your enemies will go. You'll need to camp against them or go forward (something that will be even worse than go to windmill)
If the enemy goes hill and none of your teammates don't, most of the time the enemies will head to the middle of the map, in which your team has an advantage. Taking the castle area opens up both spawns, and provides many avenues to deal with the enemy heavies that are sitting in crossfire central
But there's one point that you didn't consider, almost always there's enemies and allies on hill
If there's 3 heavies on your team, at least 1 of them will go there
Regardless, adding one extra gun to a flank (and a high hp pool) as a heavy to a medium flank has high impact, at most the 1 muppet on the hill opens up side shots on enemy heavies for the mediums/lights on the castle by providing vision
