If you look at the wall behind the tank, there is a bit of dust being kicked up from your shell.
Basically, you missed the Grille and the spall-radius of your shell wasn't strong enough to do damage.

It's a pattern I have observed in multiplayer games where your avg player will try to always go the route of highest damage with least possible risk for their weapons. That's essentially snipers in fps games (or tds like 183 in blitz). Which often end up being hard to master play styles. So all you end up is potatoes with snipers that are blind and can't hit the broadside of a barn
