I couldn't tell you, but the more points you earn from it the better. Anecdotally whilst I was grinding I did notice the difference between when I played only encounter, and then swapped to supremacy.

What do you mean? It’s supposed to be just an average xp, nothing else. So each battle is just 1/50th. Doesn’t matter if I have 50 battles or less.
I just try to understand how it works.

Also if I had more than 50 battles, the most recent one could replace the 50th that could also be a good game.
But how could be the “average” calculated, if it’s one of the first games and mastery gives 0.41%?

However it works, it isn't intuitive. For example my first game since the update I did 7.8k and got ~15 gun mark xp. Then for my 51st game in the same tank I preformed average and yet still gained 3 gun mark xp points.

I like it working that way but it didn't make sense to only being 50 games.

Another thing is at the start it appears that you get no progress, despite the gun mark xp going up or down by ~10. I think it should show the percent of total points instead of compared to every player. So if the 3rd gun mark was 250 and you have 25 points, that should show as ~9% instead of the current 0.5% or whatever. (~9% in this case since 250 is 95%, so 100% is like 263 ish)

My issue is that the percentage change doesn't intuitively reflect the gun mark xp change. What I mean by this is when you first play a tank, you can get 20-40 points before the percentage increase begins to make sense. It will go up by 0.5%, 0.2%, 0.7%, before starting to go up in the 1%, 2% or 4%. That is despite the gun mark xp points going up by similar amounts in both cases.

It would make more sense to be closer to 20% based off of xp, not total players

I'm not quite sure how to communicate this. So here is some rough math.
65 ÷ ( ( 261 ÷ 19 ) × 20 ) = 23.65
65 in this case is ~23.65% of what it takes to 100% this tank based off of current average gun mark xp.
4.1% would work out to 11.26 gun mark xp.

Currently, the game gives me the feedback of 4.1% because that is the percentage of players in this tank that I have a higher average gun mark xp. Like I think I've communicated above, that would make more sense to show 23.65%

Hi, id also like ask, players below 5k games can’t earn marks but do their stats count towards the server average? The way the marks are right now it seems to me that their botmm stats count because some tanks have ridiculously high requirements and its really hard to believe that people above 5k games perform this well in certain tanks. Some nerdy Gun Mark info that maybe clears up some confusion.

We're not using a simple average, we're using an exponential moving average in the calculation. That's why your percentage can still move up or down - even before you’ve played a full series of battles - because older results lose influence as new ones come in. And the most recent battles have increased influence on the final value.
The progress bar has a non-linear value distribution, it shows the actual player percentiles in the distribution. It reflects what percentage of players you’ve outperformed right now, based on the current data. That's why it moves slowly for the first 1% (while you get 30-50 avg. XP) and then speeds up from there.

There is a great deal of confusion on how the gun marks percentages go up or go down. There seems to be a belief that capping bases and spotting add to your xp towards gun marks when in fact capping bases does not give you any xp in random battles and you only get xp when you spot and your teammate(s) are able to deal damage to those tanks you spotted thus giving you damage assist. Thus it seems like to go up in percentage in gun marks is to deal as most damage as possible if you are not in a MT or LT where you can spot. Also there seems to be confusion when you play more than 50 battles. Does the very last battle get taken out or the worst battle gets taken out after you exceed 50?

It is a rolling last 50 battles. So the earliest one(s) drop off and get replaced with the very latest.
One can think of it also like a spreadsheet table where, you keep adding new lines at the bottom, but only the last fifty lines count.
Or let's say you play in one tank, ten battles each day:
mon 10 + tue 10 + wed 10 + thu 10 + fri 10 ... after ten battles on saturday, it will track: tue wed thu fri sat ...

All things being equal if the battles are one after another they should be equal. "Gun Mark XP is your Combat XP, excluding multipliers, team damage bonus, survival bonus, and victory bonus." That strips out the victory bonus.

Of course you'll never have two battles exactly the same, but good performance in a loss should still help you.

Because of how marks are calculated, only looking at the leaderboards isn't enough.
If you have like 3.5k avg dmg and top 10 wn8 BUT your last 5 battles were lower than average, you'd fall behind someone who got extremely lucky for their last 10 games

I'm fairly certain that the gun mark calculation is not actually based off complete player data (i.e. there's 5% of people better than you)

It seems like it's taking median performance in the tank across applicable players and 1 standard deviation worth of damage, assign those values a z-score, then use that to construct/predict a normal distribution and subsequent gun mark values

So right now some tanks are flat out impossible to mark because the game thinks the 85th percentile is the 50th percentile and "95th percentile" for 3 marks is really a "120th percentile" worth of damage, asking for 4.5k average on some tanks where nobody on NA averages 4.5k outside of reroll mm

Otherwise, doesn't make sense how the XP bar for 3 mark yesterday morning was about 280 for most non-triangles (300 for rino/e6), then suddenly jumped a universal 50-60XP this morning to hit 340 on most non-triangles with 370 or whatever for rino/e6

You don't even need good accuracy to preform well, although it helps ofc. Being situationally aware and reading lineups at the start is a massive help. I have 300 ping (270 on a good day, 330 on a less good day) and can still preform with the games dispersion, so I would very much say this game has enough skill based elements to it.

I don't understand why they removed all possibility to play normal modes the Missile is really not that OP. Only the best players understand how to work the missiles and the best players can make any tank OP. The gun marks make the tank selection page crowded. The tank type selection icons were moved up in the same row as the tiers, and now the td selection icon is on top of the trash icon. Hard to not hit both of them when I just want to choose a td.

The first gun mark is already noticeably harder than other tanks but still easily doable. The second is worse and the third needs you to consistently do more than 3.4k dmg at close-medium range + ~1.5/2 kills and if possible some cap points or spotting, all that consistently across your 10 last matches.

That was my initial thought aswell, but even when my 1st game in a tank was an ace, the 51st battle would still increase the mark. This is probably due to the later games having more weightage. I assume it’s confirmation bias on my end and my final few games are indeed a bit above the other 50.

Not really. Pretty much anyone can get up to 2 marks by just simply not yoloing, but the 3rd mark can be quite challenging on some tanks. Many T10s require you to average well over 3000 damage which is outside of the reach of majority of players

that statement is simply wrong. Only things that are taken into account on blitz are dmg dealt, dmg supported (spotting dmg), bases capped and enemies destroyed. Sure it's harder to do with a team that dies quickly (which is also the case no pc), but it's perfectly possible to get 3 marks with horrible teams

It’s just an appropriate amount I believe, not sure exactly how it works as a bunch of people have had that similar experience. More recent games is where it starts to build out a better average amount of xp, and once you get beyond the 50 battles it starts to replace your earliest game with the new one if I’m not mistaken

T30 is an insanely good tank and i remember when it was BLESSED with the best buff it couldve ever gotten
When it went from 1500 HP to 1800 like some other heavy TD’s

T30 is in both real life and gameplay a heavy tank so it deserves heavy HP too so it’s like playing a tier 8 heavy (T8 heavies have ~1800) with what feels like a tier 10 gun
So when you play against tier 8’s your HP feels even with everyone else but have an overpowered gun
Something I don’t like about some heavy TD’s is you’re expected to frontline like a heavy but have less HP than a light tank

It's the last 50 battles you played and dynamic after that. So if you don't have enough for a certain mark in 50 battles, the marks won't reset with the 51st. Sometimes you might get your marks below 50 games if you perform well enough.
You can get marks through performance in battle. Anything from damage over kills to time alive and time near allies.

All it means is if you have one bad game at 51 your next 15-20 battles decide if you 3 mark

Example from wot pc where its 100 battles. The graph flattens after your 50 battles, and the next 15+ battles is more important.

Basically your first 50 dont matter. After 51 its about how many aces and first class you can stack.

So based on that your last 10-15 games has the biggest impact on marks. After 15 battles those games get phased out due to being too small.

Gotta love when you lose 2% purely because the enemy team is just so bad that your team wipes them 7-0 before you can even do anything in your extremely slow T30 those games are as bad if not worse than 0-7 games because at least there I usually get more damage in a last stand than chasing the enemy team that is already dead by the time I get there
