Hi, all <@&1400913750738862231> Welcome to our first **Back to School ** Question of the Week! We hope these posts can be supportive and encouraging as we get back into school mode.
โ๏ธ Did you have a favorite teacher? What made them special? โ๏ธ
Yes, she was the one teacher who understood me and asked me and my friend for my pronouns when she didn't know, and she was always there to get me throat battles
My second grade teacher was sweet like honey and was very patient with me in the early 2000โs. Knowing I have AuDHD she still was so kind
Mr. O, he let us do whatever and always listened if we had problems :) He was also always very nice when people messed up during presentations
โ๏ธ
This wasnโt someone who taught me in school but I had a math tutor during my last two years of school who changed the way I viewed the subject (I even ended up doing my undergrad in math because of him)
I had an art teacher she helped me feel confident of my sexuality and she said i need to embrace it
TW ||mentions of death|| my English teacher from sophomore year she helped me thru both my friends ||deaths|| n we continued to stay in contact thru this year!! I get to have her again for this upcoming school year!!
That'd probably be the teacher I had in Year 6 (equivalent of 5th grade in the USA). She was one of very few teachers who actually understood me, and she was able to help calm me down if I had a bit of a meltdown or anything - other teachers could do that as well, for the record, but she was just really good at it.
Well Iโm homeschooled but at my homeschool co-op Iโve had this teacher before Ms. Erika and I just love her and she is so good at what she does and she has helped me feel more confident in my writing and helped it to become my favorite subject
Iโve had many favorite teachers and they were my favorites because they were js mad nice or I did really well in their classes because they actually were great teachers and took the time to help when I needed it and they Js were good to talk to when needed, would have the best convos w them and I donโt even like talking and I never felt like they were judging me or anything. They provided a safe space.
My favourite teacher was my year seven German teacher. I come from a country where most teachers are ladies that should have retired decades ago, it just really refreshing to have a teacher who actually gaf. He put work into the lessons and even though I hated the subject, he made it really fun. Also, I was going through a lot at the time and he was one of the few people that were mindful about it. โค๏ธ
Yes,miss w she is my science teacher who sees me as me and understands i sm autistic and havd bad anxiety but also just an amszing teacher how belives in me despite my past
yes my 11th grade english teacher she was so sweet and liked the coolest things, she even introduced me to one of my fav movies now and let me keep one of her posters and gave me her nightmare before christmas things before she retired bc she knew i loved that movie๐ญ๐ she was also an allyy and her class was like so comforting๐ซถ
Mr b. He runs debate club and hes the sweetest thing in existence. He tought me in year 7 and 8 as a RE teacher and is just an overall legend.
My psych teacher. She's one of the sweetest teachers I've ever met and i feel I could talk to her about anything. And my health teacher this year (and the gsa leader. Cliche i know) but she is amazing and I'm so grateful i get to have another year with her.
My 5th grade teacher was by far my favorite because she was so kind and understanding. I had (and still kinda do) a big fear of fire alarms in elementary school, and she would let me know when they would happen which helped me. She also really liked my writing and I still think about her sometimes <3
My photography teacher just a really chill guy who understands that I sometimes struggle with my work because of various things never snaps or anything just tells me to take my time which is rare with teachers in my school so I appreciate him doing it
My favorite teacher was my English teacher in 8th grade. I was going through a really hard time with accepting the fact that I'm gay after being Catholic my whole life. I'd cry in her classroom a lot and she'd read me passages from books either about being queer or by queer authors. Miss you, Mrs. Day ๐
I liked my global teacher because she was informational on the subject and taught well
Also she would joke a lot
yes !! she was always really kind and considerate, she was also my mentor (idk if thats the right term but that's the term we use in my country) and she was supportive, really kind
My middle school ELA teacher, she was SO nice. She gave us candy sometimes and always hyped us up when we were nervous for presentations or anything like that. When I had an asthma attack during a field trip she let me sit next to her and gave me food and candy and then checked on me after.
And also actually does stuff when people are being homophobic which is rare in my school
๐
10 and 11th grade physics-chemistry teacher. She was so full of energy and vigor. She was a bit chaotic but you could see that she knew exactly what she was talking about in our classes. Genuinely liked teaching. Payed attention to us. Had the funniest sayings, @pliant mountain can confirm lol, we were in the same class those two years
My favorite teacher was my home room teacher in 4th grade because she was able to help students without making them feel like something was wrong. She was also able to understand a situation and help the students out. There were some kids in the class that had many friendship issues, and she was able to get them to talk it out while being respectful
Gotta be my 8th grade Literature teacher. She was always so encouraging and she was the one that got me into watching Survivor (which is one of my favorite shows now lol)
I love Survivor as well!
My favorite teachers were my High School Chorus Teacher, Middle School English Teacher, and 9th-10th grade English Teacher
All 3 of them were supportive of me. My Chorus and MS English Teacher were behind my Drama Club productions and always helped the Drama Club grow and made me more comfortable in what I do
These responses are reminding me of how amazing teachers can be!
My middle school English teacher was my favorite teacher! She was kind and fun and she would create creative assignments for us and she would tell us stories from when she was in school and she would gossip with us during recess and she was supportive and understanding and i miss her to this day.
Mine was both my 6th grade teacher who was just nice and amazing and we all got along with her so well and my high school physics teacher who inspired me to be who I am today (a high school physics teacher).
I've had some teachers that made me wanna pull my hair outูซ which makes me all the more grateful for the wonderful teachers i do have
Iโve been really lucky to have a lot of really great teachers in my life. The one that jumped to mind here was my 9th grade world history teacher. He was the only teacher that year that didnโt focus solely on a standardized test that we would take the following year, and I remember more from that class than almost any other from high school. He made history engaging and showed us how learning about it would help us navigate the world today. He would make us characters in demonstrations/examples and to this day, my friend and I call each other by names we had in that class (almost 20 years ago). Also, he would drop wild lore at the most random times and wore a three piece suit to school every single day. He showed us that it was okay to be unapologetically yourself. He was a legend.
So awesome that you are a teacher as well!
Teachers that drop the wildest lore are the best
When I was in second grade, my teacher Mrs. Mauck. She was amazing. I had lost my dad the year before, and my first grade teacher was very dismissive of my feelings. She thought I was attention seeking instead of just you know... A heartbroken grieving child. My favorite teacher, however, let me have time to sit and read alone when I was feeling down. She would let me sit in her classroom at lunch and chat with my when she could sense I needed to talk to someone. She was so helpful in dealing with that loss and supporting me in adjusting to my new normal.
Mr. J was my math and drama teacher last year! He was super nice but always making jokes and being sarcastic. He was strict but if you get on his nice side he is a really nice guy and he was always there for me. And then there is Mrs. G my science teacher last year who made science really fun and she was really nice and went easy on everyone. She made all of us want to learn but unfortunately she wonโt be teaching this year โน๏ธ, and then there was Ms. M my English/history teacher in 7th grade, she made learning really fun and always gave us candy lol, she let us use our phones in class sometimes and always made up fun ways to learn history/english, and sometimes me and my friends ate lunch in her classroom. She was a really chill teacher and hopefully Iโll see her again one day when Iโm in highschool :))
I recently had my physics teacher leave my high school who was the most stereotypical off the walls teacher ever and everyone loved him he was super nice and understanding in his lessons and made sure everyone could understand the physics but could make you laugh for like 45 minutes if he wanted, he used to work for NASA for like a decade and would tell story's of how he helped do some theory work behind one of the mars rovers, he was something and by far the best teacher I've ever had
He was also in a beef jerky ad at one point and had a fake leg in his room and lightsabers, mad guy, we miss him dearly ๐ข
my class adviser back in grade 11 and 12 and, well, he was one of the few who actually commented that they think i'm responsible and capable of what i can do in whatever aspiration i choose to do with some limits at least. he saw i was struggling to come out of my comfort zone and, unlike most teachers i had who forcefully push me out of it, he like eased me out instead like when we had to do a speech thing, he let me do it during our online class instead of in person (when i tried to do one in person i actually almost crumbled to the floor) and when my group did a presentation at the end of grade 12 i was able to get through it without panicking at all
Yes, my choir teacherโฆ we had her from 5th grade, then she moved to the middle school when we started 7th grade, then moved to the high school when we were freshmenโฆshe was amazing and led our high school choir to be one of the best in the areaโฆ
My 8th grade algebra teacher. She was one of the few teachers at my school who cared about the students rather than our grades. She made it impossible to fail her class if you were showing effort, the lowest you could get on any assignment was a 70. She let us sleep in class, then go over what we missed during lunch. She let kids eat in her room during lunch, and even though she wasn't allowed to have kids in her room when she wasn't there, she'd let me and another kid stay if we stayed in the back and told everyone else that we were leaving soon
My 7th grade science teacher, id always talk to her about stuff that happened. Id always stay later in her class and she was alwyas there for me. She is also the prop and does make up for theater.
Ooh I have two, both from last year. My math teacher was a great teacher, she didn't make anything confusing and made it very easy to understand things. My history teacher always gave me more time on assignments and didn't really care when I turned them in late, she graded it on how I did, not by how late I turned it in.
My eighth grade english teacher !! He was really funny and he had a really cool classroom along with the fact that english is one of my favorite classes and i loved what we were learning about :]
yes! I've been very lucky to have several great teachers over the years! My (american school) first grade teacher who visited me when I was in the hospital and brought my class's get well cards. My fifth grade long-term substitute who kept us all sane during the covid lockdown. And maybe my top fav of all, y freshman human anatomy and physiology teacher who had a great balance of individual work, group projects, and full class teaching that was fun for everyone even during the taboo topic (the reproductive system)
My English teacher last year ! He would always let us pair up with our friends on group projects and would always give good advice on my writing ! He helped ppl when they were in a bad mood and overall his class was great.
i have multiple favorite tea gets that literally made me who i am today but my all time favorite teacher was my 7th and 8th grade homeroom teacher. i was bullied a lot in middle school and she helped me so much with it. my two older sisters also had her so sheโs like a family favorite! but my other favorite teacher that i literally can not forget is my Language Arts teacher from 7th and 8th grade, he was also my track coach, he would support me in theater and see me in shows even if they were community theater shows. i have multiple favorite teachers since i canโt pick one but i donโt think i have the time and space to share them all lol. sorry for doing two lololol
My first favorite teacher got convicted the week after school ended so I'm picking my sophomore English teacher! She actually made class fun, and she had this points system with hogwarts houses. You got points if you read, so naturally I took advantage of this and read enough to curbstomp the other houses. She also had us have a class party as an assignment!
Yes, it was an portuguese teacher that had read the lycrics of "A Agua - Quim barreiros" witch is an like VERY inapropriate music for our age, also we sweared a lot, we were 12yrs.
I aint ready for school yall ๐ญ
I've had a lot. But my favorite was my 9th grade English 1 teacher because she literally defended me against 2 ap's and I loved her for it
Heh another one
Another one of my favorite teachers was my 5th grade teacherโ we stayed in contact from then on & she even helped me with my middle/high school work. Sheโs always been the one person to believe in me when nobody else did. She even helped me get diagnosed with my dyslexia & dyscalculia ๐ฉท
Uhm several actually. At uni my favourite teacher was one that taught us Assembly language and CPU architecture. He put a lot of effort into explaining and answering questions, his classes were super fun. Tho the exams were 4 hour long ๐ญ

My 2nd grade teachers! Mrs. MH was personally just alot better than some of my other teachers, and Mme.? (i forgot her last name and I feel so bad.) was my favorite teacher in early grade 2! I listed 2 teachers because when I was in 2nd grade I moved from a French emersion school to a private catholic school (k-12) which I lowkey hate, please get me out of here.
Please do not use special characters
Like itโs described here
I have several. And I am now a teacher and friends with them all to this day. One was my 4th grade teacher, my French teacher, and my choir/musical director K-12th. They all were there for me during many different seasons of my life, and I find a lot of each of them in myself as a teacher.
my english teacher last year, she was so nice and sweet and i miss her so much. her teaching methods were so fun and we got to study spirited away at the end! i miss her class but sadly iโve got new english teachers this year
โ๏ธ
๐
my favorite teacher was my english teacher who was open about being an ally but also helped keep the relationships of students secret since same sex relationships arent allowed in my school! he was supportive of everyone and interacted well with the class and made sure everyone stayed comfortable :3
I can't choose between my Grade R (before first grade), 5 and 12 teachers. I've always been an emotional person and I got teased alot in primary so my Grade R and 5 teachers always supported me and helped me, they still remembered me after years of not seeing each other as much which always warmed my heart. My grade 12 teacher was the same I was sick alot in grade 12 to the point of crying and finding it hard to walk and she would always check up on me and my mother๐ฉท

Hi, <@&1400913750738862231> It's time for our second Back to School Question of the Week. Loved all of the encouraging comments last week๐ฅน
โ๏ธ If you could have any superpower related to learning, what would it be? โ๏ธ
Telepathy
Disaapearing, so i can miss uneeded lessons like pe and sex ed
I'd love that as well tbh - would be really useful at work sometimes. ๐
Sameee
invisibility to sneak into the classes with teachers that explains things the best
Yes!! I love telepathy! So that or the ability to know and understand all grammar rules
Be able to learn anything without the ability to forget it by just touching it
That would be really useful too, especially for the nightmare that is French grammar. I would finally understand conjugation
The ability to actually be able to lock in when I need to
Perfect memory. I could just remember everything and pass my classes
I think anything that has a good memory or good retention!! Imy memory is awful
Yesss
I would want to automatically be fluent in every language
this could be so useful...
time manipulation... gotta be able to pause during a time crunch and finish my work, backtrack if i missed something, fast forward if i dont wanna deal w certain people ๐ญ๐
The ability to remember everything I've learned without having to relearn it. So like if I learned how to do derivatives in calculus, I would not be able to forget it ๐
ability to understand all math, i may have slight dyscalculia itโs so bad LMAO๐
Iโm unsure
Learn and process stuff fast. Have to read 26 PDFs for a subject this semester and I have to pass it before uni changes the program and divides it in 3 subjects because it has a ton of content
The ability to remember whatever I want in full detail because drama gcse + english lit and also it would be a cool power to have!!!
Oo or a way to just stop timeโ so I could take as long as needed on my exams etc LOL
Superhuman memory
Honestly that's even better than superhuman memory
Photographic memory and invisablity
@woven parrot

Id love to be able to just lock in. Doesn't matter how many distractions there are around me, i dont stray from my study at all until i feel ready to stop
Super speed reading, Revising English takes forever and it means I can get through my back log of 23 books ๐คญ
LOL literally
Memorization so I wouldnโt forget anything
perfect memory so i dont have to study as much as i have to now
I didnโt get to answer last week question, but my favorite teacher was my senior English teacher. I met him my sophomore year of high school for a class he was teaching during what we called janterm itโs the week after Christmas break. He taught the morning class of empathy, compassion, and mental health. I went to a private Christian school and he showed that he an ally to the lgbt+ community. He was there for me when a loved one passed away and handling that grief. He cared about my mental health and wellbeing. To this day weโre still in contact and he encouraged me to read my poetry at open mics.
to understand all maths (trigonometry is the bane of my existence not excited for calculus)
the ability to not forget
Probably being able to learn everything a night before the exam or my homework gets done on its own
Photographic memory, for one. Would make some of my classes much easier and let me focus on the fun ones more
Being able to memorize anything just by looking at it, im really bad at memorizing things ๐ญ
The ability to not forget things bcs I am smart I just forget everything ๐
knowing everything thats in a book just by touching the book kind of thing
super fast teaching
The ability to speak any language
Math: Good at math
English: a power that doesnโt give me writers block
Science: X ray vision
Drama: some sort of power that makes me sing better
PE: super speed
History: predicting the future (so we know what to do to not repeat history)
The ability to learn at hyper speed
jack of all trades, master of none.
I'd like to be purely average at every single subject, so my grades are maybe like, C's and B's. No A's but definitely no fails!!!
know any language instantly so i donโt have to struggle with spanish
๐
Buana suarte
this question reminded me of how bad I actually am at studying ๐ if I had to choose a superpower, I'd say instantly store all the information I read (or hear, in the case of lectures) in my long-term memory, while simultaneously interpreting everything the right way and linking parts of the material to each other correctly when it's suitable
oh yeah, and recall all information in my long-term memory, obviously (the forgetting curve, what's that? ๐)
The ability to remember and understand whatever I need to learn, also staying focused!๐
photographic memory for sure
Hi, <@&1400913750738862231> friends! Ready for our third **Back to School **Question of the Week?!
โ๏ธ What is/was your favorite subject? โ๏ธ
HISTORYYU
oops cap locks sorry my bad yall ๐ญ
Photographyyyy
History and Home economics
technology
Mine was chemistry...that was my major. But if I could go back again, I think it would be English literature and psychology
History by far
History and Science!
Oh...Quite probably Maths.
English
english literature and media studies (my degree)
Chemistry became mine when I went to culinary school
I like math, but biology is probably my all time all around favourite
Also love Chem, yes!!
I think maths
English or art
English or art !!
During school: Math
During university: canโt decide, I like most of them. Mostly the ones that involve programming. Tho I think if I had to pick Iโd say Data Processing Systems, I had to code in a old language: Assembly
Psychology
But it might change cos this year I'm taking child growth and development
Iโm not sure if Drama Club counts because itโs an extracurricular, but that
If that doesnโt count, then Iโll have to go with History and Chemistry
psychology and english๐ซถ
honestly, I didn't really have subjects I loved back in secondary school. at uni, my favourite might've been Neuroeducation (which I didn't pass, sadly). if everything goes to plan, I'm starting Applied psychology at a new place in September and hopefully I'm gonna love the theoretical psychology classes
My favorite last year was band, and Iโm really excited to start again this year. Iโm also excited for robotics and drama
English
I just live writing and analysing stuff
Ooo i love drama
Art or math :)
My professional answer is English, but my honest answer is theatre and creative writing
tle (technology and living education, includes business, sewing, cooking, and even carpentry!) and english! i also like science alot hehe my favorite branches are physics and bio
Animal care or English or geography ๐ญ
English or History, but my teachers have made it boring
fr
It just relieves so much stress
My nerd ass going with AP lit charlie my man I get it
English and history
anything science! biology, human anatomy n physiology, all of it
oh and random things like culinary arts and sometimes english/writing
History, definitely, just the easiest lol
English or psychology
I think that is up for discussion! Lot of memorization and writing required!
math
Even if there's memorizing, its better than memorizing equations ๐ญ
orchestra ! or art
In secondary school it was either PE (because we just walked around the school) or Mathematical Literacy. Right now it's nothing๐ญ
Probably JROTC
Math (lol I'm so basic either people love this or hate it)
FAVORITE? coughs CHOIR IS A SUBJECT cough- Choir ๐
Music!
math!
Theaterr
My favorite subject is drama and my favorite subject WAS science until my fuckass science teacher this year ruined it for me

Pure evil man
Usually English, but this year it's art :3
Deleting this just since it is specific. Iโm sorry for your experience๐ซถ
Itโs okay Iโm sorry for being specific ๐ฟ
Physics! Itโs what I fell in love with in high school. Got my physics major in college and now I teach it!
probably english !! or math:3
Illusion
or art hehe
i took this film production class in high school which i really enjoyed. iโm so mad that i only did one year of it but that class is the reason why i want to do film studies as my major at university
Science!
scienceee!!!
drama๐ฅ๐ฅ
or Pe๐๐พ๐๐พ
Hi, <@&1400913750738862231> gang! Hereโs our last Back to School Question of the Week:
โ๏ธ What motivates you to learn? โ๏ธ
I have school tomorrow first day of freshmen year
Books and reward as well as the outcome of learnimg
My passion and my thirst for knowledge. I just love learning new things even within in my degree I have
The money, and that I like what I doโฆ but I work for the money
My debate team that meet up on fridays, so i always remember that the week will be over and i get to get my anger out via debates
Curiosity and the desire to understand (people, nature, everything)
definitely music i literally cannot function without music๐๐พ
getting my art therapy degree in the future
I go to school because if I donโt, then I donโt really know what I would do with all my free time. My reason for actually trying to learn though is because I like the validation of doing well, and the better I do in class, the less I have to do out of class, so I have more time for extracurriculars
If it's something I'm interested in being able to know that I can hold my own in a conversation about a subject and have a good debate, most of the time it's for exams ๐ฅฒ
the teachers, im at uni and the teachers are so nice and actually have a passion for there jobs
as a teacher myself: I hope you let them know that, it keeps us motivated to teach with passion when we know it's appreciated
I just love to learn! I always want to know more and gain more knowledge
Depending on the subject it changes subjects I like just the learning keeps me going subjects I dont like only thing that really motivates me is knowing ill be done withh the classes soon
Im horrible at getting motivated, but knowing that something fun will happen once im done
Uhhh it lowk depends on the teacher and if I already like subject in the 1st place or not
THISS
I honestly donโt know ๐คทโโ๏ธ
not much, really, mainly just pressure ๐ญ
I learn because I never want to be dependent on AI
:D
probably my interest in the subject matter (in my case it's human behaviour)
but also, like, being there mentally, if that makes sense?
Moving up a grade, not failing and theater since you cant fail and be in theater
Being able to apply my knowledge in some way :)
The fear of failing tbh. The thought of me failing haunts me so much I will stay awake to learn (and ofc wanting to help others)
Me wanting to help others deeply is what causes my fear of failing
Itโs my freshman year lol I canโt fail or else Iโll have to do it all again
My family does!
Getting it done to be free
Things that actually interest me. but also the way I feel after I successfully learn something. It makes me feel just great and accomplished. ๐๐พ especially when it results in something good for example, good grades. Best feeling ever.
the dire need to master every grammar rule so i can teach them well in the futureโ
Saving the tough question until last, I see, RCMโฆ๐ In all seriousness, I enjoy the challenge of pushing myself.
I want to know as much as possible! You could never know everything but I want to know how everything works and exists and why exactly that is the way it is
I don't have any motivation I think...that's why my grades are dropping more and more but I hope things get better for me and they WILL
Youโve got this!
I've always been a curious person! And I want to know how the world works, which is why i keep on chasing after the science subjects
^ fun fact, im starting uni this september Im so excited to learn so much more about the details of biology
THANK YOU to everyone who participated in our Back to School event! :heart_hands_tone2: The event is now closed.
