Valve Index. Windows 11. Steam.
Build ID: 22341486
Game freezes if the levelup animation is played during the black-out transition from completed song screen to "Home" or song list.
STR:
1.) Start playing a song when very close to levelling up (in this case 18->19, Lady Gaga's Just Dance, Rhythm, Expert, No mods)
2.) Complete the song, and watch all the progress bars.
3.) Watch the progress bar on your profile badge.
4.) Just before the levelup animation plays, hit the 'Return Home' button.
Levelup animation plays during the fade to black transition. Transition never completes. Buttons (Return Home, Random Song, Replay Song) do nothing. Must restart client to fix.

Game Freeze During Level-Up Animation Transition to Home

I have experienced this when I am impatient and trying to skip past the score screen, yes. I'm not sure what can be done here but it's worth calling out that it's a thing

#

You get locked into a black loading for a bit

it will take some engineering i think to either prevent the anim playing after the button is pressed or prevent the button from being pressed if the player levels up. It's a design decision + coding decision.

Probably needs to terminate all animations when the player decides to dip out and cause a scene change with return home, replay etc.

But thank you!

Yeah, I can see that this one could be difficult to handle!

3 would also be OK if 2 were impossible or if designers really want the animation played. (maybe people get confused if it doesn't?). 1 is icky but if that ends up being the only choice it's the only choice. Better than the game freezing and needing to be restart.

Thanks for asking!

I'm on board the 2 train, as you're more inclined to press those buttons when you're in a skipping frame of mind.

(As in you wouldn't push it unless you were ready to go back to the menu)
