#VRM Avatars overly large and disfigured
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
i dont have that. i have that the hips wont move at all. and the real synth avatars are just mangled
Which direction were you facing when calibrating? I recall an old issue if you were facing backwards.
Facing forward. Imported avatars are faced te right way but hip joint to high and almost do not want to move .
Games original avatar if I sit on the ground facing backwards and calibrate that up and turn around then they are facing right way and right height not arm and legs are messed up even more. It's like calibration of arm legs are totally diffrent then the body calibration. It's a puzzle.
have anyone tried deleting their avatar.settings.bin (if it's there) and any .json file in synthridersUC/Avatars?
since custom avatars use the default calibration as a base, i am thinking the default calibration from the older version might be out of wack from what i have
and built in avatars use the default calibration exclusively
Yes multiple times even. And the game creates a new bin file . Even 2 new ones . Also 1 on main folder now.
And still no luck.
I have to sit on the ground backwards swap controllers look up and calibrate. Then stand up and that's the closest I get from untangling the synth own avatars. Custom avatars I don't really know to begin. That hip joint will not move untill I do 2 steps to each direction but when it stays on 1 spot the rest does move. Some have hands twisted 180
can i please have those files please?
Sure I will DM you in a second have to boot up the pc
Been playing a bit more recently with the new challenges+ update, and I've still been having this problem. (Hope its ok to necro an old thread like this if its the same problem) Obviously if I am actually streaming through OBS or something I can use other software to get a FBT avi, but when just streaming to Discord I would love to be able to just use the in built system since it is a lot easier.
Please remove any old avatar config files in your game folder.
That's generally been the resolution for avatars not calibrating correctly with the triggers.
Looking for avatar.settings.bin files in either the game's install folder or any Avatar folders, including under your SynthRidersUC folder. Give it a clean, fresh start
This suggestion here: #1280707778196934696 message
I'm like 70% sure I tried this when it was originally written, but I am willing to try again! Gimme a few minutes
One other question while I'm getting this fixed. Is there supposed to be a second, empty, Avatars folder in the games main directory? I'm thinking not and that it's a leftover from before the SynthRidersUC folder.
Yep, we used to have it all in there but got rid of it.
The next step if none of this works is to turn off Steam Cloud, uninstall the game, move your install folder to the side (to preserve custom content), reinstall the game to a fresh folder and then check if the problem continues.
If it does not continue, you can then bring your custom content and settings back one file at a time to see where the problem lies.
yup still happening. will try a reinstall. Could i just move the UC folder?
just to note as with before this happens with the default avis as well
Synth Female Avatar is pictured here
there is also a rpm_avatars.bin file in UC. the only thing i can think that means is Ready Player Me? do you/have you all ever supported that? (gonna back up UC folder in the meantime)
ok so reinstalling and delinking from steam cloud worked. gonna try regrabbing cloud save to see if it still works
Steam cloud would put back those avatar files you removed before starting the game.
So yeah, that step is necessary if the problem is coming from an avatar setting file.
We have never supported it, but it doesn't mean we haven't thought about it 🙂
yeah ok like you guessed restoring steam cloud broke it again
the really annoying thing is Steam makes it difficult to clear out your cloud saves manually, or at least it did last time I checked.
and yeah steam put a avatars.settings.bin into synth root folder
Which is why I generally avoid running it - and even then it's been known to still put files back.
so wait will steam load the file back in everytime?
If you have cloud on, yes it will.
hmmmm... yikes
If you want Steam Cloud on, then recommend starting the game, editing that file in notepad to be empty, then exiting the game.
That may work. I did see some stuff a while back about how to manipulate Steam Cloud, but it's a pain in the behind.
will try. just zero out the file more or less?
Yeah, try deleting the file while the game is running
That may even work
You can see what's in your cloud saves here: https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorage
But naturally you can't delete them 🙄
The game just has to be running when you make modifications with cloud on
gonna try that but i think i found the problem variable?
redownloaded the cloud file
gonna just edit it
So the whole system is actually different now
Your personal avatars, each one has its own settings file
The internal ones have had a bunch of corrections
.. and the VRM version has moved on from the way that file is
So yeah, I wouldn't guess - I would remove that file and let the game recreate whatever it actually needs now.
so! new issue! avatar is normal size, but doesnt follow.
Did you delete the file or just leave it?
went in and removed the text in notepad while running, closed game, then restarted
.. and did Cloud save put the file back as it was?
Or is Cloud Save now respecting your choices?
kept the file with no text
might be able to just paste in a known good version?
swap the file out while steam cloud aint lookin >:)
ok lets see
Honestly I would just turn off Steam Cloud. It's a pain in the behind and all it does is backup your config .bin files and the Playlists folder
Just leave it off and embrace the serenity 😄
This is why letting the game generate that file is important, yeah.
That file came straight out of my fresh install.
lemme pull custom avi in before we call this
Remember they use separate files
Like I said - custom avatars have their own avatar setting files because the system one is what's set for the built-ins
ok got a .vrm , a .vrm.json with the same file name, and a steam_autocloud.vdf. which should i bring in from the backup?
i mean the vrm obviously lol
considering the json was probably created by the game, just bringing the vrm should probably be good?
Just the .vrm and it goes in SynthRidersUC/Avatars
gotcha!
Which is slightly annoying - it should be CustomAvatars to match all the other stuff... I'm not sure why it's not. Adding that to my list
it works! one quick final quesion, the avi feels a biit big. (not horrendously big like before) and the hands are rotated wrong. anyway to fix those?
no big deal if not tho
hold on, synth had an old version of my avi
ok everything but the rotatated wrist was an old avi problem
wait no its the calibration making it too big
wonder if my bone structure is a bit messed up
i do remember having to mess with the autocal in liv with this model
oh wait no this ia a bigger problem. he default avis are too big now
Did you leave steam cloud off?
no like this happened without a restart
Weird. My personal AVI is fine, builtins are fine.
default avis worked fine, equipped my custom, went back suddenly this
dont worry i believe yours is workin lol
My custom avatar json file looks almost identical to the default one
idea, this might take a sec
Head & hand offsets slightly different but that's about it
I recall that scale does have a relationship to your headset height above the floor
(So if you calibrate when you are crouched you can make very small avatars..)
nvm fixed itself at some point and now it wont do it again lol. did turn off steam cloud so idk
hand rotation being off is till a problem. since its a hand thing i will note i use knuckles controllers
for better explanation, if i stand facing the mirror and face my palms to the mirror, my avis hands are rotated outwards instead
happens with default avis as well
also btw if this is just an unfixable thing thats fine I thank you for your help!
I got avatars working well half. The hips just stay fixed on 1 point while I'm 2 steps to the left or right to get that even moving it's looks very odd. And the side steps are way to big. If I could fix that I would gladly ditch LIV
You can adjust hand rotation in the unique avatar json files ?
Just the same as the swivel settings for knees etc
Yeah the pelvis hitch is a bit weird, I know what you mean
ah ok! i will take a look and mess with some settings. if i edit the json should i not calibrate afterwards?
I don’t know - you’re outside of my knowledge at this point
You will need to experiment and see I think!
That’s all I would be doing to answer. I would expect that you could calibrate; the settings are only for scaling IIRC
But I am more likely to be wrong
gotcha! will make sure to create backups then! Thanks for all the help! (and sorry for eating a bunch of your time lol)
