Alright - What Star Wars Comic should I read next?
What have you read and liked?
Good day! I'm looking for my next read, and am curious if anybody knows of any books that go over the rise to power of Sheev Palpatine. How he became a senator, how he got into the dark side, anything exploring that would be great. Thank you!
That has been pretty untouched in canon
IIRC there's a tiny bit in the Padme trilogy but it's really not much
Lords of the Sith is probably the book he's the most main character in, but it's not about his rise to power at all
These are the star wars books I own , I've yet to read any star wars novels , which of these are good or bad ?
Revenge of the Sith is the best one in your collection, easily
some people love I, Jedi, some people hate it.
for Order 66 you're missing the other Republic Commando books that lead up to it so I'd suggest reading those first
similarly Invincible is part of the Legacy of the Force series and you'd want to read those in order, but if you haven't read NJO it's really not worth reading LotF imho
Red Harvest is an interesting one since it's horror--I haven't read it but people who like both horror and SW tend to enjoy that one and Death Troopers
I enjoyhed Dawn of the Jedi but some people find it too thinky and not actiony enough.
Revan bros love Revan and the SWTOR novels; non-Revan bros seem to have mixed opinions on it.
Do I need to play old Republic before the books ?
Nah, I never did
What about the junior novelization of episode 1 by Patricia C. Wrede and the approaching storm and episode 2 plus shadows of the empire and smugglers run. I know I Jedi , invincible and planet of the twilight are continuations of episode 6 but I want to read those era books in order definitely
Also why the heck is barris retcon from being Anakins age to ahsokas?
i've never read the junior novelizations b/c i was already past that age when TPM came out, but I'm sure they're fine
Unless her species ages slowly or something?
Smugglers Run is a canon novel and is fine but tbh I remember very little from it.
Should I read labyrinth of evil and rise of Vader before and after revenge of the sith?
yes
Also it's crazy how many alternate timelines there technically is given the amount of retcons
Only thing that surprises me is that there aren't more. Canon was a pretty loose concept in Star Wars until the prequels
The main reason there's so many ( besides visions) is cause the prequels weren't out so there were only 2 timelines : episode 4-6 and episode 4-6 plus legends books . Then prequels came and then the clone wars so some books during the prequel era were retconed so now there's like 5-6 variants 😂
The early EU would beg to differ
They did not care about canon in the 70s and 80s. There's some wild stuff in the original Marvel comics
Yes, the prequels overwrote a lot of things in the EU, but the 90s EU overwrote things from the 70s and 80s constantly.
Hi! I'm new here. I'm interested in some reading recommendations. I read Aftermath, Alphabet Squadron, and the Thrawn series.
Hello!
I haven't read it yet but if you liked Alphabet, maybe try Mask of Fear next!
It ties into Andor a bit
@slender galleon can vouch for it being good
If you liked Alphabet Squadron, you’ll like Mask of Fear!
Also since this is a GE server I feel obligated to recommend Phasma and Black Spire, too
You wouldn't think they go together but they do
CW: some torture in those, but not graphic
And we have a server book club as well. We are on the last book of a trilogy but will probably do a single/non-trilogy book next
Do I start with Phasma or black spire if I go that route?
