Crosshair is being such an idiot. Rampart talking about CH playing at commander. And CH doesn't have a brother anywhere. For a brief time it was Cody but even he left him. CH doesn't have anyone, anything, or even a future.
Gonna need a meme of the governor saying āpeace was never an optionā
IT'S TIME
My poor boy
He believes (for now) that the abuse is the price of having purpose.
Or possibly that the abuse is irrelevant/immaterial compared to getting to be part of something bigger and stronger.
Except of course it isnāt irrelevant at all.
But heās tried to convince himself it should be.
Cody giving a side eye when Crosshair calls Jedi traitors
Real ironic coming from man who did this
Thatās kind of the point. Codyās side eye isnāt sarcastic or critical, like āoh, please, donāt give me thatā.
Itās questioning. Like Codyās expression is asking: āDo you really think thatās plausible? And for that matter, why did I think that was plausible? And why am I now silently questioning what I was so completely sure of a year ago on Utapau?ā
Did Cody ever learn about the chips having an unknown suspicious purpose the way Rex did? Iām not sure he did.
I doubt he learned of the chips
But like with Howzer last season
The chip only goes so far.
Wait how did Crosshair know Rex went rouge? I thought the Empire thought he was dead still.
When did Crosshair mention Rex going rogue?
I thought he and Cody just talked about the Bad Batch, and some regular clones later on (e.g. Howzer).
My hot take and I ma not looking to debate so this is just my opinion and no one will like it trust me.
Cross didn't kill that Mayor, if you look her shoulder was burning
He did it to get Cody out of the situation
First scene with them at the memorial.
second Cody isn't AWOL he is out looking for the Batch
And will more than likely help them
And Cross is having some major Kallus feels here
Yeah I think the line from Crosshair was āRegs have gone awol tooā. Regs meaning regular clones.
But āregsā sounds a lot like ārexā.
This part I definitely agree with.
Crosshair didnāt shoot at that moment out of boredom or Imperial loyalty. He did it to divert attention from Codyās insubordination by making the issue a moot point.
Yup thatās it.
Straight up misheard it.
I was so confused haha.
Lol it was an easy mixup.
Also what really struck me as relevant in their relationship was what Cody said during his and Crosshairās second conversation at the memorial.
Whenever Hunter or the other Bad Batchers were arguing with Crosshair in S1, they kept outright telling him he was wrong: that the Empire was evil, that the chip was making him evil, etc etc. They kept pushing Crosshair, and so he kept pulling away.
But Cody didnāt try to tell Crosshair what he should do, or what was the right thing to do. He basically just said: āWe all make our own choices, and we have to live with them.ā And left it at that.
He gave Crosshair what no one else would: he respected his choices.
I love this
This is very true
Great take.
holds her coke coffee
Everything is
Not okay!
Crosshair: can you let me eat for Frickin once?
Crosshair isn't allowed happiness apparently
No! And neither are we!
But!
I see light in Crosshair
He said Cody
He asked Rampart why he doesnāt say Cody
I see
A broken chain in the mail
I see change
Also seeing Cody in Grey
Hurts
Notice how Cody continued to call his troopers by names.
Yep
Cody has ptsd
Which, I mean, obviously
But he lost one of his men right in front of him, and two minutes later he goes berserk on a BX droid, stabbing it repeatedly until Crosshair snaps him out of it.
Cody please go get therapy
Go awol for therapy first.
lets not forget he probably thinks Kenobi is dead
Mood
I believe he absolutely thinks that.
The higher ups obviously know better, but why would they tell Cody?
of course not
And even if there is an Imperial bounty posted for Obi-Wan Kenobi at this point on the timeline, I canāt imagine Cody has spent his free time post-Order 66 looking at open bounty postings.
Not really his thing.
imo, definitely these lines are the most important lines on this episode. Crosshair reminding Cody that soldiers follow orders, and then later Cody making the distinction between them and the droids, and that they are responsible for their decisions and actions, would seem that it will possibly make Crosshair think.
I also think that Crosshair needed this plush pile on his bedroom. š„ŗ
The soundtrack in this episode was very good.
This episode was so chilling and heavy. The scene setting really drove it home too. The shot of the star destroyer looming over the governor's headquarters awash in red literally sent chills down my spine
I don't know if this got answered, but it was "Regs" not "Rex" -- I heard that too, and went back and had to turn on subtitles š
oops, answered pretty soon after. my b
Ok but can we talk about that last scene with Rampart saying clones close to Crosshair keep going AWOL?
Is Rampart gonna set up Crosshair so it looks like he's encouraging clones to desert?
Yeah that smelled
It was definitely a threat from Rampfart.
It will be interesting what Cross does next.
Iām sure heās covering his back on knowing Bad Batch is still alive. For sure he is gonna set up Crosshair.
Dunno, he's got a suspiciously located scar on his left forehead.
Cody has always had that scar.
No, he's always had the line going down past his eye, but in this episode he had a crescent moon scar above that.
No he asked him why wasn't he reporting to Cody for duty
what a great episode
ah
Iām watching it again. So good!
The last ten minutes or so of that episode was amazing. Had a Blade Runner feel to it.
Cody 100% felt guilt over ordering Kenobi's death. Pre-Fall of Kamino Crosshair would've shot the governor the instant she backed down and let the Imperial governor go. I have no doubt that Cody is done with the Empire and Cross is starting to lean that way.
Agreed and I think it helps that Cody is an "outsider". They're all brothers, but Clone Force 99 have always been different. Cody, while familiar with them, isn't desperately trying to convince a family member that he's in an abusive relationship and needs to come home. Cody is suggesting. Never thought I'd say it about the man who tried to kill Obi-Wan, but bless you, Cody.
Cody also deserves that bless you, I think, because of so much misinformation.
Cody doesnāt even think he tried to kill Obi-Wan. He thinks he succeeded.
And living with that choice (which he likely thinks was actually his choice because I donāt think he knows about the chip) is something heās further chosen to do.
I think thatās very honorable of him.
Though I do hope he also feels accountable in some way for Boga the varactyl, because she actually did die as a result of Codyās (albeit brainwashed) actions.
Poor Boga. ā¹ļø
Boga! š
My good girl Boga š„²
Why does commander Cody have a conscience in The Bad Batch? Doesnāt he still have a chip? If so, I thought that chip prevented them from disobeying orders and going AWOL?
I was wondering since Rampfart mentions lots of clones defecting maybe they fried them too much.
I can see the Empire overusing and abusing that power to the point of chip degradation.
Though I do not doubt the capabilities of the Kamino scientists, they also probably didn't predict this intense amount of chip usage.
A reason that Tarkin wanted nonclones to serve is that the loyalty of enthusiastic civvies does not solely rely upon a piece of tech.
Yeah Order 66 seems to have put the chips on overdrive, short-term Extreme Effectiveness and then burnout
I think that the intentions where just to use the clones specifically for order 66. Clones were expensive and loyalty is much cheaper, so I guess Palpatine was going to replace them no matter what. Also, I think the the chip was activated at the moment it was executed the order, but Iām not sure the durability of it.
I feel like that's putting things too simply. We've seen how the chips can have varying effects on the clones. Prior to Rampart's tampering, Crosshair was only mildly annoyed that the rest of the Bad Batch was ignoring Order 66 and being their usual independent selves.
Speaking of, I am still thinking that Crosshair was lied to about having his chip removed OR the chip being cranked up beyond standard levels affected him even after the chip was removed. Otherwise, I don't think he would have gone back to the Empire after a month of waiting for rescue.
To him, it may have felt like he didn't have a choice. Or that going back to the Empire was going back to the only familiarity he can have.
But it's not like how it was.
His room is small and secluded.
The clones still treat him like an outcast but it's different. It hurts now.
Their avoidance is out of something different than before.
I'm sure at first he liked having his own room. And eating in peace... if they ever let him eat.
Isolation is a slippery slope.
I think Crosshair always felt comfortable being distant even in his own group (he is the sniper after all).
But heās still human and still needs human connection to feel healthy. He connected with Cody during their mission, where Cody saved his life and provided assistance that helped Crosshair be his best self.
But now Cody is gone, and Crosshair is alone again.
And yeah someone let this man eat without interruption ferfassakes.
I wonder if they're purposefully starving him.
Isolation and hunger.
I bet it felt good to be used properly again. He got to snipe!
Manipulation through punishment is the worst.
Eff the Empire.
I think itās Rampart treating him toxically, but not specifically to starve him. Just to stress him out and remove the comfort and security of uninterrupted eating.
If Rampart had more important scheduled things to do during clone mealtimes, heād let Crosshair eat but find other ways to mess with him.
Crosshair probably has field rations and access to clone cafeteria food at other times. Him intermittently having to wait to eat later is the intended stressor, not lack of food in general.
But yes, quack the Empire.
Specifically Tarkin and Rampart.
Especially them, but Iāll extend it to everyone thatās part of the system.
Maybe not all of them deserve death. But they definitely deserve the bird salute.
At least we know for sure that Tarkin's hubris gets the best of him.
Bye girl bye
A perpetual comfort.
Though sometimes only a silver lining, when I think about how much time Tarkin had to inflict himself on the galaxy.
Until you realize the more innocent soldiers lost.
He wasnāt young when he died.
And he was doing messed up stuff even before the Empire gave him nearly carte blanche.
I save my sorrow for the other prisoners that were undoubtedly being held on the Death Star when it blew.
Also the dianoga.
And the mouse droid.
Aww no not the mice!
Did you ever read From A Certain Point of View?
Itās an anthology of stories from the pov of various background/side characters in the OT movies.
Theyāve made one for ANH, and another for ESB (and we should get the ROTJ one soon).
Thereās a story in the ANH book thatās from the pov of the Death Star mouse droid that Chewie scares.
It takes a little bit of effort to follow because the mouse droid thinks in code algorithms. But if you read it closely, itās beautiful and emotional, and the final line is heartbreaking.
Aw ok definitely putting it in my notes! Thank you.
Aside from the probe droids, mouse droids are my favorite.
Only in the galaxy far far away could you find personality in small boxes on wheels.
But I do digress from Bad Batch.
Hey hereās Rampart and his big dumb fascist chin.
He wonāt outlive Tarkin.
fingers crossed
I'd personally like to see Cross take him out with the GFFA equivalent of piano wire, but I think that'd be too violent for animated Star Wars
Part of me really wants Cody, Rex, or Wolffe to take him out
I would really like Cross to take Rampart out as redemption.
Would also be very good
Aaahhh! Wednesday! š
And you know you should!
