You actually can get them off. If you equip a specialization skill and change specializations it renders that slot empty because you cant have that skill equipped when using a different specialization. These skills are like the banshee pulse, mender seeker, spotter drone, such and so forth. Simply rinse and repeat for both slots and vwalla you can play with no skills equipped

One thing div2 is not short on is gas masks, we have an absolute ton of them.
I'd also recommend checking out the gearset appearance mods for masks, they're all 100% free Googling it, Foundry Bulwark's mask looks similar-ish to what's showing up for the "SAS gas mask".

There's a paid option in the store and a free one you can get by grinding the right gearset

The paid option is the Midnight Mask like Elfie said, the free option is the Emet Mask from the Golan Gear set

The Midnight Mask looks more akin to the CT12 respirator (the SAS gas mask IRL) than the Emet Mask, but they have similar enough form factors if you don't care about the outfit being clone correct

Pink purple? Probably the wright mask from the paradise lost incursion, you get it by going flawless on the incursion which means nobody on your team can die or go down during the whole incursion
