A n00b question: how exactly do I raise the proficiency level for weapons? I'm currently at level 3 and the counter below says 3/200. I thought we just needed to use a piece of gear to get exp and that was it.

no. using the gear helps it get proficient. to gain expertise levels so you can upgrade things after theyre proficient you have to donate weapons gear and materials to the expertise section

another trick is to create a build specially made just for proficiency. basically you put on pieces and use guns that you don't normally use.

you gain proficiency for everything you have in your build even if you're not using it (like a stowed weapon)

a slower but easier way is to use a build you like... but only use the primary gun. and then make the secondary gun something you want to gain proficiency on but dont use

The 'Expertise' system is really two systems under the one umbrella - Proficiency and Expertise

If you think of them as building blocks, Proficiency is the foundation and Expertise is the system that sits on top. To put it another way, you can level up Proficiency without Expertise, but you can't level up Expertise without levelling up Proficiency.

Ironically, this makes the naming of the overall system 'Expertise' somewhat confusing since it's really all about Proficiency in the early stages, with Expertise coming in a bit later. The 3/200 is your proficiency with gear, weapons, skills, specializations, etc.

You can mark gear as junk and donate it directly to the table and whatever can fit/not proficiency 10, will go directly towards the 200 you see. You can donate materials as well such as printer filament, components, etc. also to speed the process up or simply use the gear as you said.

It's basically for the drip. Having the pass grants you 4 apparel event keys. If you're a new agent the optimization and named caches are handy, But you can get these already with other events or at the countdown vendor.

I see. Sounds extremely good if you can position yourself and just keep healing with whatever you can. It sounds almost broken with the proper setup, I'd say.

Meh the heals are secondary in the FI gear and the best version of the build imo. It's a buffer build as you can provide TONS of damage to your teammates. Heals is a means to keep people topped up on armor so they have the 25% TWD or TSD up, but heals also keeps people alive.

tips for not feeling like dead weight on legendary incursions/hard group content as a newer player? i'm still only shd 81 but i have a somewhat optimized heartbreaker build. or am i meant to grind a little more before doing this stuff

HB isn't the best build for lego/incursion. There are build guides pinned in the #td2-build-advice channel if you'd like to get more/better builds. The one you should look for if you wanna DPS is strikers as a good start.

Honestly a good way to not feel useless imo, run healing/ revive stuff so that even if you arent “killing” enemies, you can still contribute by healing your teammates and damaging enemies/ distracting

Then later on when you get mroe drops you can start min maxing a dps build to swap to

honestly its easier to just have 3 DPS, wright will aggro whoever touched the pipes last so it doesnt really help to have a tank on the team. Its faster to just have the aggro'ed player run around until ads are dead and then someone hits the sprinklers.

You should know that the Kard isn't as good as you might think. The +1 Skill Tier only works while you are physically holding the gun in your hand.

Healer builds havent really evolved. 4pc Future Initiative is still best to have, just throw a half decent chestpeice and an Opportunistic backpack on, optionally you can also throw a Lefty on, its a named ACS with Perfect Sledgehammer.

and get to the point where you can do open world with all directives on. tons of xp, it's pretty challenging, and you'll do a bunch of stuff all at the same time: blueprints, loot, xp, materials

Pretty sure intimidate is still an amp.
The difference is needing it to ramp up to full strength while keeping bonus armor.

Not everyone plays Incursion just for the exotic loot. Our clan has Raid evenings on Fridays, then we run raids/incursion for 5-6 hours non-stop because it's fun.

Shd level doesn't mean anything, especially in the raids. Listening, learning, observing amd asking good questions will get you much further than any shd level

But to answer your question, depends on how you play, probably a couple months with playing frequently. Raids themselves gives little xp, so you won't level up fast doing them.

Jefferson Plaza is not a strong hold

captiol is and is the current week invaded, just double check you are doing it on invaded (vs Black tusk enemies) and do it on hard at least (some times they require at least hard to do)
