I did this moons ago with I believe the blinder firefly and oxidizer. The oxi destroys most armour pieces then use a pistol to get rid of any still remaining. Bit of a slower process but it works. I believe there was a YouTube video i followed to do it in less than 10 minutes. There's probably quicker methods now but I always fecked it up with the riot foam.

System Mods and Protocol Mods are essentially the same thing. Both offer the same stats. They used to work differently, but that was an old outdated system that was updated long ago. The names just kind of stuck. Don't mind it.
All gear mods have a chance of rolling for CHC (max roll of 6%) and CHD (max roll of 12%). Like Eball said, you're welcome to craft as many as you'd like until you get one of those, or even until you get one that's max rolled.
But it's ill advised since they cost time and more importantly, resources. Which is kind of necessary to progress into the new Expertise system, of which you need a lot of resources.

When you play to it's strengths, Chameleon is a fine AR. It's not an amazing gun, but it's not awful either. It's just decent.
The thing can be fun to use with the right build, but people often can't handle the concept of decent. They always lean into either extreme of Great/Good or Bad/Shit.

People just tend to knock down certain weapons, even if they're fun to use, just for the sake of efficiency and optimization of their roles.

The Lightweight M4 is a prime example of a gun I like to use just because it has the Sakuya-Hime skin.
But if I'm being honest, the thing handles like trash that's been out in the sun for a week.

Im new to this game. How does gear work? Im a fresh 40, I got my first exotic. But I noticed there's no gear score or whatever to track my power progression.

How do i know where to get better gear and if I am getting better gear?

In games like Destiny you had a gear score which made it simple to compare but I am so lost.

Also are all exotics the same strength? Like I i got my first one in Normal difficulty. Is there higher tier exotics? Where? And how would i know if they are better.

Is there better tier High-end gear too? What about higher end gear sets?

Used to be gear score, now there isn't because the devs decided to remove that feature from anything besides mid game (which used to be endgame)
Difficulty only makes the random stat rolls better, nothing more
There are two levels beyond high end, the light green ones who's name I forgot and exotic gear
Exotics are just special items with gimmicks, difficulty doesn't change much besides that

Like heartbreaker is better than some basic fenris set, but rigger is just bad in general
Running six pieces of the same set is redundant because it does nothing beyond four pieces

Exotics are, as before stated, just guns with gimmicks
They're usually only good in builds revolving around them

Also armour pieces, those are also situational

you will find that you will eventually use almost all different weapon types based on what build youre running, an LMG is fun but Capacitor AR is best with skill builds etc

Open the DC world map and go to the north east part to see Summit and Countdown. Hover on the location and press the down button to set your target loot. If you're looking for Future Initiative, you can select it from the group. Same thing goes for Alps Summit brand or if you're looking for a particular weapon type too.

You can only do the targeted loot feature for Summit and Countdown. Each open world mission and zone has their own targeted loot that is random and resets every day. @pseudo whale

You can certainly do Summit if you like. One thing to note about targeted loot is that there are no guarantees that you'll get what you exactly want. It's still random at the end of the day. Targeted loot improves your odds no matter how slightly it is.

If you wanna target loot for Alps brand gear and the Future Initiative gear set, select them from targeted loot. You can only select one brand at a time so you'll need multiple playthroughs. It'll be literally a grind. BTSU gloves, you can target loot gloves in general, and everything rests on luck.

You can still do any world activity (i.e. replaying missions, open world activities, raids, Summit, etc). The loot pool is so massive that you can expect (albeit unlikely) to get BTSU gloves as a reward anywhere. Because it's an exotic, you can also get them through Exotic Caches, but again, it's gonna be random so pray that you have good luck to the gods

But, I think target loot farming via Summit and Countdown is a good way to farm gear stuff because you have at least a way to control which kind of rewards you get.

You could also join a group dedicated to farming gear and stuff. Group members can also "share" their loot with you during that session. If you have three other players in your group farming gear, you might just cut your farming time significantly because you're 4 times more likely to get whatever you targeted in Summit, for example

By the way, don't take a lot from me. As a solo player, I occasionally join or matchmake in groups. Lots of folks here can give better advice and are nice enough to help if you ask 🤟

now its just category offensive/defensive/utility

So, my friend and i recently completed the primary campaign together and now we have switched from levels of player, to levels of gear, which is taking us some time to adjust to. Specializations are confusing to me as well. I have the massive single shot kill sniper rifle, but apparently you can increase your specialiation. Where is a good place to learn how that works?

most of the gear I am picking up is maxing out at 289

The sniper rifle is wicked powerful, but in high action fights, I do struggle to hit players with it 🙂

you simply increase your specialization by leveling up i think. you get points to spend at the quartermaster and you spend them on upgrades in the specialization

Every gear item has a default core attribute that it will always drop with. This is a constant rule of the game regardless if the item is part of a brandset, gear set, or exotic.
For Badger Tuff it's armor.

The Airaldi, Providence, and Sokolov brandsets will always drop with red core attributes for example.

While Belstone and Golan Gear will always drop with blue core attributes alongside Badger Tuff.

And Alps, Empress International, and Hana-U will always drop with yellow core attributes.

Coyote's mask will always be a red core, Imperial Dynasty, a yellow core.
The only time in the game that breaks this rule is Memento.

No, just floor 90: the trick is to kill all three bosses and most but not all of the adds, then grab the loot and fast travel to the lobby and back, which will reset the floor so you can repeat.

But countdown is more interesting and had such a ton of loot that it's worth it for anything, in my mind
