True Damage/Mighty heal is in an interesting state. It needs to be addressed. While it likely can’t just be abandoned it may need a rework. Tanky-ness is cool and all but doesn’t quite fit in the games current meta in a cost effective manner. Not sure what needs to be changed but I would love to hear ideas. Archers really need a pick me up I don’t think more skill damage (following standard power creep) or the current state of True damage/ Mighty heal will do the trick….

catch with true damage is lack of any pair, Smite and combo we have some options
Yeah very true, much easier to balance damage with damage regardless of the technicalities
In theory it's good, but the fact that it's tied to healing makes it kind of meh in practice. Of course they can change it, but there's a greater chance of dropping it
I feel like there’s no chance they drop it considering the heal based armament, it would be unfair to those who invested. In theory a heal + damage skill is good but for the fast pace fighting idk
They should just scrap it, there’s no place in current meta for massive healing unless you want a huge hospital bill
That seems like the easiest idea but I would feel bad for those who invested in circle
I agree I don’t think if they release a true damage comm it will be meta. True damage doesn’t really deal enough damage
if you consider that it is practically impossible to buff this
Yeah I guess you can only real buff half the skill which stinks
I mean there isn’t even a true damage formation only heal right?
It would suck for those, but they have done it before
Cheok and Bert (before their rework) and Sargon are some examples of new mechanics that never went anywhere
The only way I can think of for True damage to be good it’s for it to scale with something else instead of healing
shield looks ok but is more for inf currently
Inf change to smite was easily done because Inf had normal damage amplifiers and didn’t rely that much on skill damage
And cav had Attila for combo
But archers don’t really have anything else besides skill damage
even on talent tree have Skill damage
The problem is actually worse. True Damage is really only 'Ignores defense' at it's core. The healing we've seen is just Mighty Healing, converted without attack influence that isn't mitigated by defense-- True Damage. It is so convoluted and tucked away in the code we can't easily grasp what we're working with. Smite and less so Combo, but still simple, are both easily understood in seconds of reading them.
They also made it worse by restricting it by tying it to healing done. In order to do damage comparable to Skill/Combo/Smite we need to do excessive healing. This compounds into a major issue... We'll heal like crazy AND deal competitive damage. This will not work. We can't both have massively increased survival, higher consistent troop counts, while dealing relatively equal damage output, because the healing would give us an insane edge.
The way CY and Shajar work currently needs to be swapped. We need to heal a % based off the damage we deal. Not deal damage based off the amount we heal. A punching bag works when you need to hold and don't fear losing what is being hit. (Ark). The issue is ROK relies on what's being hit being removed (Deads). No one likes being a punching bag and losing. Not that CY is functioning poorly but the current implementation means we're more prone to becoming punching bags. (I see you Subutai.)
heal is less bad on garrison scenario, but very hard to make good on field, u enter on 'win more' or 'lose more' scenario
Same can be said for a garrison as well. The way it's built opens up a balance nightmare for them and awkward gameplay for us.
The only way they can make this work is likely with hyper specific skill additions. SOmething like 'If targeting a field troop deal 200% more True damage." So it can't be abused in Garrison.
I'd have been fine them making us masters of skill damage.
In practice Cy is not used as a True damage dealer, he is only used for healing and antiswarm
True damage is literally 5% of the reason to use
and in practice, True damage is not competitive because it is practically impossible to buff it, without buffing all damage
It'll have to be buffed by skills. It's the only option they left themselves. It's why CY has to heal 45% more when targeting a rally and it's like slapping an enemy with a feather.
Even with skills buff, the Comm would need to be 100% broken for true damage to have value.
and in that case it would be more for the commander than True damage
and that's without considering that an Archer tree arm is useless with True damage
We may see a True Damage talent tree nexy cycle. Who knows. They're all over the map with this stuff and some things are released at the same time but then we get this split. We're literally beta testing their development and paying to do it lol
Maybe, but they didn't mention True damage in the new planned formations.
there is no reason not to do it
It's dead in my eyes. As it stands right now. We got the lame duck release. 🤷
They said no plans when I asked once before. Not holding my breath. lol
ye, not sure why Dont do If plan continue The type
I like that last point you made that would be a nice change, a damage primary focus works better with this meta
I wonder what should be done given that true damage seems to be scrapped, I mean maybe break the 5 player AOE cap, maybe give archers like 7…
Honestly I have no clue what should be done, there’s always more damage, more targets, wider AOE, all that’s cool but every other troop type is getting special gimmicks while archers just get hospital bills
The thing is that Archer even his own talents are modeled on skill damage.
so it's easier to do some debuff based on skill damage than some new damage
Have AoE not be reduced by number of targets
