Level up and get to t2 troops, focus on commanders.. play path of vengeance to gain lots of exp books and put them into your top 4 commanders as you recruit them. I have one for each, Cav, Garrison, Infantry and Archers. And they are all 20+ one of my commanders lvl 40 right now (my account is a little under 10 days also)

Have a commander set for peace keeper to and level them up and put skill points towards extra exp when killing barbs level it to 20+ and use your low level commanders with it to level them up.

Join a good and active alliance that you can donate tech to and gain alliance credits to help boost you more while also showing you how to play.
There's many different ways to play.
