#Don't forget the legacy of HN1

I do agree
about the legacy
I don't go into details, but if you were here during development, you'll know why some fans were upset at times
I kind of agree, although the prior games were flawed, they had some good stuff going for them, and it’s weird that the sequel didn’t capitalize on that. Sandbox is stripped down and rarely affects gameplay now, game isn’t as dynamic as the first. If somehow they bring everything that the first game did right and improve on the place where it fell, while bringing back prior points like soundtrack, characters, etc. into it, then it would make for a great product
You don't like HN1, right?
Yeah.... how could you tell?
They shouldn’t continued with the stealth horror aspect of the early alphas and the old artstyle
he rather doesn't know HN
Or can't look below the surface idk
Nello Neighbor is objectively one of the top 100 worst video games ever released publicly
(in my objective opinion)
I hate the puzzles
I hate the glitches
I hate the weird graphical imperfections
The lore is ok
But is communicated really poorly
And worst of all
It completely deviated from those beutiful Alphas
then why are you here
He is there to speak his facts and the truth. Although, it's odd that someone like him who hates hn existence is in this server.
I like the second game, just not the first
But I still wish they would stop falsely advertising their games
But yeah.... Helloneighbor 2 is a MASSIVE improvement from the first in every way.
Right.
How so?
I love how he said all of this to leave
Like there was no point in that person being here other then to share an opinion they deemed as a fact
If it was worse as a public release then how was it so well received?
Why were we able to get a HN2 let alone a whole show on the game series that was well received on YT as well
Like if you genuinely think about it things don’t quite add up other then hate for the franchise
I wouldn't call massive hate and roasting the truth. it's some new gen shitting which we don't really need in a fan server bc we're getting it everywhere else. in some places you're being HARASSED by kids for liking HN.
the community itself can be critical a bit, that's not a problem. but when someone starts massively attacking HN that's when I ask this
person answered the thing kinda, they're new gen "idc, old bad new good" typical member bruh
those who despise the old HN, don't know the real HN. that's my opinion.
and that's an interesting topic.
to this day, I'm not sure how many really love HN and how many do hate-follow the franchise.
negative marketing is marketing, yes. but it never brings healthy things.
Hn1
Bro I'm sorry I have a LIFE outside of this server
I had to like... go do things....
But anyway, I have been summoned
- Puzzles: Puzzles in the first game were nonsensical, requiring the player to do long strings of seemingly random tasks across the map to unlock other things. eg: The puzzle where you have to freeze a globe in a freezer, stick it in a doohicky on the third floor, and then climb all the way up the ladder to the water room which has now also frozen.
In HN2, the puzzles are actually sensical, and because the houses are smaller, you can physically understand the area between puzzle elements.
I love the final pin puzzle in the cage, matching the colors is obvious but doesn't work from the inside. After noticing the numbers are upside down this serves as a hint for the player to look around from the other side. This ofcourse makes sense because the padlock is on the outside of the cage, not the inside. BRILLIANT PUZZLE DESIGN!
- Level design: In Hello Neighbor 1, act 1 house had just too many dead ends to be very fun in my opinion. Act 2 was fine but... just a little weird from an art design perspective, large boxxy rooms just.... floating. Act 3 house made for a beautiful spectacle, but was awful for you and the neighbor to traverse. To put it simply: TOO BIG FOR A CAT AND MOUSE GAME. The Neighbor would always break and never be able to go to upper floors, making him hardly a threat
In HN2, there are a total of 5 neighbor's houses, and the Guest's saw mill and church. Levels are cute, compact, and just gorgeous from an art design perspective.
- Graphics and art direction: In HN1, I did like the style, but the shapes they were going for were a little too extremely styleized, a bit distracting. Also, lighting in the final build was dummied down IMMENSLY because previous builds with better quality of lighting were optimized horribly. Dynamic Pixels didn't want to deal with it, so they just made i worse for everybody.
In HN2 The game is actually well optimized, taking full advantage of Unreal Engine 4's lighting capabilities along RTX compatibility! I also LOVE the art direction in HN2, still very stylized, but now with less extreme shapes and a more "grounded in realit look." A perfect balance!
Bugs: HN1 was insanely buggy, objects would clip through the map and go... insane. Using features like the tram became a nightmare because half the time leaving it would cause you to fall out of the world. The neighbor would get stuck a lot, and I experienced frequent crashes that would undo my progress.
In NH2, at least after the last hotfix, bugs are few and far between. In my last playthough I didn't experience a single one. Although I may just be lucky, there is no uncertainly that HN2 has exponentially less bugs than the first.
Anyway, I'm tired of yapping so I'm going to make this short: I'd say AI wasn't improved for the sequel. In fact, I miss the traps feature from the original game.
So I guess HN2 isn't an improvement in EVERY way.
No one said you didn’t
Just like you have things to do we all do.
I feel like me typing this goes against that argument. 💀
Thanks
Anyway, Ima go eat breakfast.
Hn1 had no legacy
Exactly
Well
Not a good one
WELLLLLL..............
The alphas had a beutiful legacy
Uber nostalgic
But the release sucked
Idk man i think moving away from hn1 legacy in terms of gameplay was a very good choice
I didn't expect there to be so many comments here
he literally proceeded to write a novel lol.
overall, the OP in the feedback is RIGHT. they should keep the vibe, legacy and way of storytelling of HN in the sequel and later games. it should be developed by people, who KNOW the source material and care about it. don't forget that it started out as a passion project, money was secondary.
100% agree, the final version of HN sucked, the story was confusing and hard to tell, for some reason the tutorial got removed, the puzzles made no sense, the map was awful.
Actually it was not well received. the final release got very low ratings and lots of fans got disappointed. The reason why HN is still popular is because of how good the alphas were, and the lore. plus all the big youtubers playing at the time.
😔
Unfortunately they blew their chance with HN2, HN2 could have been big, it was possible for it to make the franchise blow up again because lots of people were excited for it. But we all know how bad the release was and because of that, HN 2 is now getting forgotten. I do HOPE, the next update will be massive because if not, I see no hope of this game coming back.
That still doesn’t mean it wasn’t publicly received well how would people know about HN without big YouTubers bring the name around? They used their platform to give HN more publicity so yes it was well received.
