You should make the toy gun reloadable

I think you should make it so the gun doesn't run out of ammunition just make it so it breaks and using a certain item you can fix it

This feature would make the game unplayable for any neighbor. The kid could just camp with the rifle and that "certain ithem" both in inventory by the secret door and neighbor would have no chance to play.
