i agree with @winged knoll, I also believe that hello neighbor diaries takes place in the book universe since the rooms line up with how they are described i the books. (also in the memories) I think that it takes place between missing pieces and waking nights, because the memories end when nicky finds the note on his window, which is the end of missing peices, also in waking nights you have a journal with everything about the neighbor, meaning that you have finished the journal( or hello neighbor diaries) and now you move on to waking nights. also I believe that the beginning cutscene for hn diaries is the book universe version of act 3.
