From my understanding, the neighbor is protecting kids (his i assume) from the guest. So I believe he may have been there in search of his missing kids. And thats when he meets the guest. We also see the crow suit in the basement of the neighbors house which i believe he hid one of his children in to disguise from the guest but clearly that didn’t work out as evident by the blood on it

Theres this mustached gentleman named Mr.Theodore Peterson, who is a world renowned theme park designer. He has a wife named Diane, and two children Aaron and Mya. In 1991, he comes back to his hometown of Raven Brooks to build an amusement park for the golden apple corporation. All the rides of the golden apple amusement park was designed within the walls of his blue house. The Golden Apple Amusement Park opens in summer of 1992. But instead of everyone being happy, a serious tragedy happens, when the roller coaster cart jumps of the rails and lands on a tree, which resulted in the death of girl named Lucy. After the tragedy, The Peterson family got the reputation of the town wingnuts, the same reputation got by Mr.Peterson's parents, Adelle and Roger Peterson, who were famous meteorologists in the 60s. They built a weather station. Somehow, they became the town wingnuts and pariah. Then they mysteriously dissappeared. In 1995, The Roth family move in to Raven Brooks, in a house across the street from The Peterson's household. Nicky Roth (protagonist of the first game) becomes close friends with Aaron Peterson. Soon they both were inseparable. A few months later, Aaron's mother Diane dies in a car accident, and Aaron accidentally pushed Mya off the roof and killed her. Mr.Peterson, who was already kinda already going insane, went completely off the rails after this incident. Mr.Peterson locked up Aaron in his basement in order to protect him. He lied to the town that Aaron and Mya are living with a relative far away. Nicky gets suspicious of Mr.Peterson and starts an investigation on him. Nicky's friends, Enzo, Maritza and Trinity ( Detective, Brave and Leader from Secret Neighbor) also joins his investigation and helped him.

They successfully proved that Aaron and Mya went missing. But after that, Nicky's friends said that they can't help him anymore, so he had to continue his investigation alone. One day he heard screams coming from The Peterson household and saw Mr.Peterson locking someone up in his basement. So, Nicky broke into his house, got the key to the basement, and went inside the basement. He discovered that the basement was a maze. After going through the maze, he finds Aaron. Aaron tells him that he shouldn't have come here. He considers himself a monster. He told Nicky that he deserves to be in the basement. He also told Nicky that Mr.Peterson wanted him to come to the basement, so that Aaron can have a friend in his homemade prison. Nicky was locked up in the basement for 2 months. One day, with the help of Aaron, he escaped the basement. The Police arrive at The Peterson Household, and start their investigation. Mr.Peterson takes Aaron with him and escapes the police. he hides in the abandoned museum and presumably locks Aaron in the attic of the museum. The museum is also across the street from the Raven Brooks Banner TV station. Quentin (protagonist of the second game) comes to the town and takes up a job at the Raven Brooks Banner as a journalist, in order to solve the disappearances of a chain of ppl in the town. He finds out that Mr.Peterson in the museum and breaks into the museum to find his secrets. But Quentin notices that Mr.Peterson is not the only suspicious person in Raven Brooks. The mystery stretches beyond Mr.Peterson and that in Raven Brooks, every citizen is suspicious and are hiding secrets. While Quentin is trying to crack the mystery in Raven Brooks, a strange bird like creature known as "The Guest" or as The Raven Man, stalks him and follows him.

Graphic Novel 2 and Book 7 are the books which are said to be tying into HN2. We are not sure when GN2 takes place, but what happens is this. Mr.Peterson builds a machine which controls weather and floods the entire town. His goal is to submerge the entire town underwater. The mayor orders an evacuation. Everyone in the town evacuate. Two sisters, Regina and Pris, encounter the guest while evacuating the town, which leads their car to crash. A while later, Mr.Peterson shows up in his truck and and the girls ask them to drop them at the nearby gas station, to which he agrees to. At the gas station, Regina and Pris have an argument. Regina thinks and imagines that her dead dog Flan, is still alive, while Pris says that Flan is dead. Regina gets mad and searches for Flan at the back of Mr.Peterson's truck, but Mr.Peterson starts driving the truck and Regina gets knocked unconscious. When unconcious, she sees the guest, and he tells him that he took away the the power to imagine the dog and she could imagine him no more. At the gas station, the owner tells Pris of this urban legend known as "The Raven Man" who comes out at night and steals the things which ppl don't deserve. Pris claims that she saw the Raven Man(referring to the encounter which led to the car crash). A nurse who came there says that this is an absurd and stupid urban legend and agrees to help her find Regina. Meanwhile, Mr.Peterson goes to the weather station to check the machine. Mr.Peterson says that these ppl don't deserve the town and that they need to experince loss. But Regina tells him that hes no different than the raven man, which makes him feel guilty. So, he dived into the submerged basement of the station to turn it off, but right when he was about to, the guest comes out of the wall, drowns him

According to my calculations, the entire Hello Neighbor lore goes like this: Mr. Peterson is an amusement park owner to the Golden Apple Amusement Park. Soon the corners were cut, and a death happened of a girl who fell off a ride. He later closed down the amusement park and people burned and vandalizing it. He dropped everything that happened and was having fun with his kids (Act 1 cutscene in Hide & Seek) when he and his wife decided to go out or shopping. They get close or are really far from home when an ice cream truck hits Mr. Peterson's car killing his wife and injuring Him, (3rd death cut scene in 1st game) He gets really depressed and can't hold up the family any longer. There's a secret in act 3 where you have to find a bugged discolored wall, walking through it teleports you to a cemetery where you get the achievement: NO DIGGING! For visiting a cemetery where he buries his wife. Nicky (You in the first game) are friends with Mr. Peterson's son, Aaron. Aaron gets ticked off when his sister starts to act up and not play his games, also the fact his mom died makes it worse. Aaron pushes Maya (his sister) off the roof and kills her after 3 acts of teasing + Bullying.

Mr. Peterson gets more depressed and angrier and locks Aaron away forever in the basement. You as Nicky wonder what happened to Maya, and Aaron so you investigate yourself after no one believes your silly theories of what happened. When you go down into the basement for the first time, you see a sleeping bag and snacks which prove that yes, Aaron was there but he was missing. Act 2 the Neighbor keeps you hidden in his house by putting barriers all around his house. (Ok Idk if HN2 takes place before or after the events of HN1.) But in Act 3 and finale are all dreams. At the beginning of Act 3 Mr. Peterson's house was destroyed and burned. Proving HN2 plausibly takes place before Acts 3 & finale.

Secret Neighbor is Nicky's friends trying to find him in act 1 when he investigates the basement, (that's why you never play as him in it but also why in HN2 he is also missing.) HN2 is a bit frustrating, see, The neighbor's house is still there and he’s at a museum? But Maya, Aaron, and Nicky are missing which indicates it takes place after Secret Neighbor. And the Guest? Well in Hello Guest, you might have noticed your in an amusement park*. So who's the guest? The Neighbor of course! In the 3 original books, Nicky sees Mr.Peterson walking around the Golden Apple Amusement Park looking for parts, he gets exposed by Nicky and tries to catch them and keep them quiet. So how is he the guest? To hide his identity, he uses a Halloween costume from his son to hide his identity while still trying to find parts to build or make something.And in the original announcement trailer for HN2 he is seen burning the guest costume with some regret in his face. I’ll keep you updated if I think of more fitting pieces for HN2.

but a nurse who came there tells that its nonsense and that she'll help him to find Regina

at the weather station, the neighbor explains to Regina that he was the one who caused the flood and that he wants to submerge the town under water because the ppl don't deserve the town

but Regina tells him that hes no different than The Raven Man, which makes the neighbor feel guilty and he agrees to turn off his machine
