Granted there are consequences for using them. Not everyone knows these skips and it leaves doors locked which can potentially hurt the progress of the neighborhood rescue squad.

But it's all a part of playstyle. They're there, but whether you want to use them or should use them comes down to preference and the scenario you have in the game. (is all your team alive, is it just you and the neighbor, etc.)

I've always wanted to get into game design but I've never really actually gotten into it. I've started learning the HN modkit a little bit so I know the basics of ue4, but yeah I definitely want to be a game designer in the future

in my opinion, ways to break progression of the game shouldn’t be part of the design, especially when it can be bad for the neighbor

I feel like some of the skips are fine but some of them, for example the one in map 2 that allows you to get into every level 2 keycard room without opening them just feels a bit op for the kids

when I play with friends we specifically clarify not to use them and to play the game normally because it makes it impossible for the neighbor to win

That's totally fine. I'll be honest I used to use skips when I was first playing Secret Neighbor, but tend to avoid using them if they allow you to bypass a door and lock out your teammates. But when it's just me and the neighbor, then I do use them to try and stay hidden.

and the excuse of having it so the rest of the squad can't get to you makes you think, that INCLUDES the neighbor.

especially on map 1, because you can get on the roof instantly and get 4 keys + a high chance to get the rifle

An exact date and even a timeframe can be tricky due to many factors. If it's a game release you've got loads of processes to through when it comes to consoles and the rules can change too. There's also bug testing (that's a long process), ESRB approval ratings, does the game feel good or more time to develop? Marketing plans for distribution when it comes advertising online.

And if you're dealing with a known license or franchise such as for example (Star Wars or Marvel) those licenses and agreements can cause a lot of challenges to development. It's why a lot of companies say the word "soon" because there's so much that can happen up to even a week before a game or update launches.

Hey my bad for missing this. Didn't mean to ignore your question. It's been a really cool experience to narrate some of the trailers and work with brands like Xbox and Twitch. Making those videos is a fun team effort which I experienced for the first time last year. It takes about as many people to make one of those as it does a CGI trailer for Secret Neighbor. Anywhere from 15-40 people. Long term I try not to think about it because there's just a lot going on and there's always something cool taking place at the company. So once one project is done, the team and I are already moving to the next project. I hope the trailers attract new eyes to the game. It's part of the reason why there's narration. I know some people ask why there's narration in several videos and why the same phrase "Welcome to HN2" is used. It's to help introduce people to the series who may not know this is a sequel, who Mr. Peterson is, etc. Basically to bring new people into the game and I hope those videos helped. End of the day, it's part of the job and experience with tinyBuild I'm grateful to be a part of.
