I never see many clowns win. I just feel like ghost is the easiest cus you can kinda haunt the kids till they seperate

A good Ghost player can do well! Especially when you block the doors and separate the kids.
But the Ghost players I've seen recently haven't done well, they reveal themselves too early and everyone groups up against them (and we always leave doors open so they can't be blocked).
Clown's smoke bomb can be powerful, on the other hand, since kids can't see through it.
With the smoke bomb perks, you can throw a second one pretty soon after the first expires, and down kids.
But I mostly just use the disguise / don't engage groups of kids. I play really slowly as Clown, and it's worked so far.

Aside from win, and make sure you make it into the basement (100xp for winning, 100xp if you personally get inside), the big XP is character specific.
For Brave, use counter strike once every game for an extra 100XP.
Rescue kids from the neighbour's hands for I think 60.

You definitely need to charge counterstrike, so break traps, help kids up and rescue them from the neighbour's hands.
You can smash traps and windows with the bat, too.
Using counterstrike at least once gives you 100XP in a game, so try to do that if you can, and winning gives you 200XP.
That's a minimum of 300XP per game if you survive and get into the basement.
The rest comes from helping other kids, breaking traps, keys, using keycards and destroying barricades.

imo the traps was the worst addition
it sounded fine on paper but actual in game traps are so sucky
theres like beartraps placed in the most RANDOM places, some hitboxes on the traps are extremely broken, the smoke traps being ontop of one another and downing people is a huge problem
the game just isnt fun with these additions
especially the boarded up doors and cabinents..really slows the gameplay
(keycard doors slowed the gameplay quite a bit, but now its even harder with the traps)

They'll just suffer from traps. Disarming them will cause the player to lose focus, and a Neighbor can just come up and throw things at the kid, and you'll end up dead.
In the game, the Neighbor's role is stronger than that of the children, and the presence of these traps causes irritation to the players of the children. Also, we must not forget about the moments when the players simply leave the game, and you are left with the Neighbor and a house completely filled with traps. Most players simply cannot stand these traps, and they lose the desire to play

And for those players who love traps so much, I suggest creating your own server, turning on all traps and barricades in the "Help" mode and playing for your own pleasure.

You want to maximize their time in the trap so you can knock everyone else.

I'd say it's situational, and neither would be suitable for every fight.
For a Guest, for example, focusing on removing the counterstrike might be a good idea, even if it gets them back up sooner. But if it only leaves one other kid left, you can knock the Brave when they're out of the trap and you've captured the other, like you said.
Two+ Braves, though, and if they can dodge/hide or use the bat effectively, then using that opportunity to get free hits can be more helpful.
