SN has been losing what made it unique in the first place, and instead of building off that, they change everything about it to make it fit with the lore of the other games, which is a complete mess. Like I said, I may not enjoy the update or the game, but it's my opinion at the end of the day, and you have yours. If you think the update is good, then play and enjoy it, there is no problem with that.

The gameplay has progressively gotten worse over the years, at least in terms of balancing. The Neighbor still struggles to add pressure on the kids, and after this recent Summer update, he's even worse at it, which makes him not very fun to play as. The kids are still extremely strong, and they haven't even really properly addressed the large balance issues between the two sides. So, to answer your question, the gameplay of the game throughout the years has not really improved at all.
