Ah i thought of something, a blueprint. Inventor can pull out a blueprint that provides a menu of possible alternative crafting/tinkering. I don't know if i should recommend it since Inventor already had a rework but it's just a idea.

U can plan to craft any upgrades on an item, once u select an upgrade it will display the object, show an outlined example of the items visual difference and showcases the required gear amounts

Press E to apply the gears and it'll craft an upgrade

Neighbors can slightly hear it because it'll make a lot of wrenching sounds
