You don't need any keys for the Lucy event, all you have to do is kill the neighbor and the light triggers.

I can see the whole scenario teased in the video just being a brawl mode. Not only is there a brawl scheduled to release in the spring update, but they've also been trying to publicize brawls heavily lately. Furthermore, the idea of switching up abilities and mildly changing the map is something brawls are notorious for.

My point is, like how they use Leader's run, Scout's slingshot, rifles, etc. This provides a large amount of flexibility with abilities. There really is no other reasoning as to why the regular neighbor would be able to use smoke (or board up doors) which implies he'd be getting a rework, something that was not mentioned. The goal of the brawl might simply be to survive, while also dealing with extra traps.

i think this is about the progression system they were talking about in the roadmap, they were incredibly vague about it so "progression" could mean anything, and in this case i think it means how you progress through the map (the boarded up doors support this)

I honestly think an ability to board up doors would be pretty cool; it would make the game more like HN + give a reason for the useless crowbar. It would also add more of a reason to use items for more than just throwing them.

i think they're randomly placed and not set by the neighbor player, some of the footage during the explanation of inventor's new gadgets shows a makeup table with only one of the little doors boarded up, not both of them

there's also a drawer with boards on it during a sequence where the rescue squad is fighting the clown neighbor, but that's less relevant

manually setting them up could still be a possibility, but seems unlikely to me

well it's a static trap that activates upon walking through a red laser so it wouldn't invalidate clown's smoke bomb

since the trap would likely be one time usage and obviously you have no control over where it goes

it also seems to last for a smaller duration than a normal one

It's still Clown's smoke, and if any neighbor can use it, why should Clown have the ability at all. It being brawl just makes more sense to me because it just seems more likely to me. I don't think adding traps everywhere is going to do anything beneficial towards the game except allow the neighbor to win in less than 3 minutes.

because it's static, lasts for a shorter duration, and seems to be able to be triggered by the kids at their own leisure? clown's smoke bomb still has a reason to exist as you can use it whenever you want in any area you want with a longer effect

again people have been saying that base secret neighbor is too repetitive and simple, if they wanted to make matches more randomized and dynamic why would they put that in a side mode instead of it being the main game

That still makes it easier for the neighbor, since brawls rely on teamwork, it would make sense since your buddy would be able to help if you've been effected by a trap. Shorter duration will do absolutely nothing except make the neighbor want to get to you faster. In a normal match, regardless of duration, new players get caught immediately. Obviously, they're trying to increase brawl popularity. But I won't argue any more and just wait for the update to see.

yeah because people have been saying that the kids are too op, and matches go too quickly? base SN is still about teamwork and coordination as well it just doesn't happen that much because of the current game mechanics, why would they not try to put more teamwork and careful play in their main game mode that is as they describe: "work together with other players, but do not trust anybody"
