What I’ve said before that there is difference between art style and its goal and narrative.
Psychonauts looks wacky to give player feel of surreal nature of a human subconscious (where most gameplay happen). While they look “normal” to each other.
HN3 characters look like that to achieve feeling of a melancholy, fading memory etc. But they look normal to each other.

Also, having a torch makes it too easy because it doesn't matter if he catches me because I just use a torch to break free. To say in short, it's too hard to avoid him without a torch but too easy to get away from him with one. I think a good way to balance it would be that you can't use a torch if he's dragging you and that you can sneak around him in the dark.
