Could it be that the huge differences between the first, second, and third games in their maps, graphics, and overall style are simply because of the person we play as?

Nikky saw everything in a childish way because he grew up there, and that place felt familiar to him. Quentin, on the other hand, was an investigator who arrived from outside, so in the second game everything looks more refined and serious just like he perceives it.

In the third game, yes, everything seems ruined and the village looks half-abandoned, but I think there’s a reason for that: it’s because of the player. The player believes it’s a scary and very strange place.

We talk and show stuff that are in progress but we say that we not sure it it will work. We just avoid giving promises.
We will cover AI in the upcoming devlog definitely.
Such a big gap between last update and now is for two reasons:

1. We still trying to figure out best approach to share information in a meaningful way while also spend enough time to working on the game
2. This stage turned out to be much harder than we anticipated. We took a big fundamental AI-behavior chunk. Basically, to build a tools and foundation for the game. Current unfinished buildings allows you to walk in, but there's just nothing inside.
Thing is, building themself not really "unfinished", but rather in "unknown" state. They now play role of placeholder. After P2 we realized it's easier to removed houses than add new ones. So we sketched out general map concept to work within this layout.
When we will start to fill out the world with content, some houses could be changed, removed or added.

I have Two questions about our character in HN3.
1: is our character meant to have their own story like Nicky and Quentin or is it a blank canvas type of character where we can imagine ourselves as that character?
2: how is our character meant end up in the town in the full game?

1 - Kind of in-between. Protagonist have some sort of story but should be able to play some sort of canvas role. Just not entierly blank.

How big of a role will the neighbor have in the third game?

Btw, do you know the reason why the optimisation in the first 2 prototypes were not good? Like is it because of the realistic artstyle? Or mabye even the AI of the characters? And Will this problem be fixed in prototype 3?

What's your hardware, btw?
P3 not going to be better optimized than P2. Turned out NPC are very CPU-bound and it took our engineers a lot of work to level out performance to a good enough place for now (in comparison to 2 fps we had after turned on all the character on the map). We have plans for future optimization.

To be honest. I don't really know. I played on a 1000 dollar laptop. And I got around 20 fps on medium settings. Not really playable. If I put it on low it would get me around 40-50 fps. I don't think I will be able to play prototype 3, just because of that. But I will watch like every ytuber play it lol 😂 Its like the cheapest 120hertz laptop I could get
