I recreated the Equifax environment as a Ludus range, and I was wondering about something related to internal recon/pivoting.

Once you get access to a machine inside the network (for example a compromised webserver), how do you usually discover potential internal subnets/VLANs that the host can access, especially when the machine only has a single NIC?

In my case every VM only has one interface, so I was curious how you would realistically infer or discover:

• reachable internal subnets
• VLAN segmentation
• possible pivot opportunities

What do you usually look at first?

• routing table?
• ARP cache?
• active connections/netstat?
• nearby subnet scans with Nmap?
• DNS/config files?

Basically I’m trying to better understand the methodology/attacker mindset for discovering internal network structure after initial compromise 😄
