But it really boils down to 2 things:
- Just get your foot in the door any way you can, if you aren't already working in IT. Doesn't really matter much what you do. Help desk, junior developer, whatever. Just get some IT experience on your resume - and more importantly get some experience in corporate IT in general.
- Pursue whatever you're passionate about (i.e. pentesting), and keep a record of what you have done and can do.
There is no silver bullet, foolproof, sure fire way to get any job in IT, let alone cybersecurity. You just have to get in there, get your hands dirty, and be ready to jump when opportunities present themselves.

because honestly speaking, and if you want my opinion, I really dont think mentorship will work out in that way. if you're going for a 1:1 approach i mean
if youre doing something like what tyler ramsbey is doing, I think that would be good because its essentially building your own product + marketing it + getting revenue from it
or anything along those lines, it doesnt have to be specifically something like that
but I think 1:1 mentorship isnt going to work out. because yknow. people can learn from anyone including AI

I would kind of agree because we've all seen how "good" AI is when you dig deep into it. But mentorship imo isnt really going to work out. Besides other people, common folk, wouldnt see it that way. They would just see "I could learn this from AI without paying anything"
i would say just, know your audience. offer something according to their needs. for example. if you were to build a platform where you post web challenges daily, where anyone can practice, and premium labs at that where you pay, or even include tutorials alongside, I think that would be nice. and something people would be willing to pay for.
like webverse labs, I dont know if youve heard of it but its a new platform for web challenges and the guy who built it is marketing it pretty aggressively
