Hi everybody, I'm experiencing an error that never happened to me previously, I'm comparing the behavior between a friend and I. I'm using Kali in a vm and my friend is using Arch. The machine is Shocker, a retired machine, the question is... no matter if we upgrade the tty or not. He can use cat binary with no problems but I can. I can read short files as flag.txt or user.txt but when I try to use cat /etc/passwd then it gets frozen, no way to get out from that state, no ctrl+z no ctrl+c. I tried from zsh as him, also from bash, using nc and ncat (from nmap) and no way to fix it 😐. I really appreciate any kind of help.

Foundation is good. Plenty of YouTube too (via Brave). But it depends a lot more on what type of learner you are. Don't assume you're going to get anywhere without studying and researching a ton.

HTB has a bit of a free intro as far as I know (haven't tried Academy yet in fear of a paywall) but I'd highly recommend understanding machine and networking basics first
