While it may just be for HTB, regardless of which lab environment you're working with, I'd still err on the side of caution and ensure solid isolation from your host.

Out of the box, WSL containers expose the host filesystem simply through a /mnt

Certainly you can harden it, but I'd just use a VM instead for those situations tbh

Also, WSL AFAIK doesn't support snapshots in such a quick and easy way as VMs. Imagine you mess up your WSL, you'd have to recreate it, copy your tools etc back. With a VM, you get it to a working clean state, take a snapshot.. and then if you muck it you you can always revert

but you can't do incremental snapshots like you can with VMs
