Not all machines have a web server also 😉

You should be doing some recon as your first step against any machine. Check if you can ping the target IP too (AFAIK all machines should respond to a ping on the HTB Labs)

If there's no ping response, then you may have an issue with your VPN connection

I once did a pairip pentest which required nearly exactly this, first starting the target app so the initial hook check passed, then starting frida and reading all classes in runtime to save specific strings which pairip only sets after succesful hook check. After around 0.5 seconds the app got closed by pairip but it was enough to save all the strings, then a small program to transform the strings.txt files into smali files with the right class name and replacing the files in the classes.dex and in the end removing the native lib call and changing the entrypoint of the apk
