installed parrot, got my Nvidia gpu drivers working, ran some hashcat benchmarks, then i passed out for 8 hours 
parrot was easy, the Nvidia drivers took like 2 hours of troubleshooting 😭 had to create and edit so many files
gonna shower, then do the openvpn install and start installing the vm stuff

you don’t need it running 24/7 but you should setup a backup strategy so that it backs up whenever your computer IS running and it detects changes in your git directories? i mean, if you care about your git repos i guess

i set my git server to backup every day twice, I don’t necessarily make new commits daily, but I check anyways and if something is new it auto backs up to my raspberry pi 🙂

If the filesystem is encrypted your mileage may vary... I've only run in to that on a CTF before so there was a path
..but there will be a way if you have the key / passphrase I'm sure

Disable password auth over SSH, disable any ports on 0.0.0.0 that don't need to be open
There's not that much to securing a server, until you get in to all the services you could be hosting on it
Just.. before you disable password auth on SSH make sure you setup your priv/pub key auth 😅
Everyone locks themselves out of a server at least once in their lives by derping auth or blocking access to ports without a backup to revert
..and anyone who says they haven't, just haven't yet
