he was chillin with johnson and rtas
Fair point but I didnt know so I gave myslef the most logical thing of my knowledge of the time
did you play halo 3 before ce?
if not, just remember the scale of reasonable things đ
Question is the reason sergeant Johnson wasnât infected on the first halo ring because of his enhancements?
Because he was skilled enough to not get an infection form trying to dig into him
and something in his agmentations
Nah
I had a xbox 360 not a original
Yes
For me it went
3, reach, 4, 5, 1, 2, odst
I played 1 when I got the master cheif collection
Nah man it's all good
That is not canon
How does the Vampireâs stasis cannon work? Why does it make a vortex, how does it drain a vehicle while replenishing its own functionality?
The normal stasis cannon simply uses an electromagnetic pulse to disable vehicles.
The upgraded version that also drains energy may just be for gameplay.
Some functionality would more than likely be gameplay.
Fr
However, I could imagine something that drains power from an enemy vehicle and uses that to power nanomachines to repair the Vampire.
But more likely it's just gameplay.
Hello
Whatâs the typical charge time for a Mac gun on a unsc ship
I understand itâs going to vary
Covenant war please
@cedar surge @versed helm @main hill
Assume you guys would know
While powerful, these guns require long charge times, impacting their sustained firepower. A destroyer circa 2552 operating at half its usual power output required 50 minutes to charge up its two MACs to 100%, indicating it would normally take 25 minutes to charge both, or 12.5 minutes to charge one.[34]Captain Wallace and Catherine Halsey were able to hold a short conversation complete with emphasizing pauses in the time it took for the UNSC Commonwealth's MAC to charge up an additional 20% (from 30% to 50%).[35] However, the UNSC Majestic was able to fire four MAC rounds after its initial two, at what was implied to be full charge against a few Covenant cruisers, in around ten seconds
If that helps
Halopedia is pretty reliable
In my experience wikis are sus
25 minutes is wild
Any idea whatâs the most common figure
Seems like it varies depending on the class
It depends on the class and what the ship the MAC is hooked up to.
Anybody know the calcs of UNSC infinity mac I heard the mac is able to one shot a covenant carrier
Anyone wanna play Halo 1 Legendary. Beat it before but just got Halo MCC on PC
Sometimes itâs insanely high, like in the in-game cinematics. Best explanation is that there is a certain âwarm-upâ period which goes for longer
At least for the standard Frigate seen prominently in Bungieâs Halo
So do some elites just not like humans so they wont work with them
Is that why in halo 4 and 5 we see them still try to kill you
that jul mdamas covenant splinter faction
As is the case with all sapient organisms, different people have different personalities
Fair point
but some do just dont like humans that much, even in the SoS
Oni dont like elites much either
I heard they poisoned some of their food supply in case of another human-covenant war
Altered genetics
ONI wanted to use poisoned grain to kill all the sangheili and then recolonize the now empty worlds with humans
ONI is completely off their rocker.
Like, extremely
And also would backfire immediately
Yeah
They would notice quick
They arent stupid
I'd say they are smarter than some humans
Common sense wise
The poisoning was a travesty
Did they actually try
Or should I say, Travissty
They developed it and tested it on Jul
On who?
Jul 'Mdama?
AKA Ol' Julie
Snap crackle pop
They decided to not go through with it only because they were worried the poisoned grain would contaminate the soil too much after humans took over the worlds.
Bruh
Frick Oni
To a extent
I would not ruin the relationship we have with another smart alien race
I could see their worries of them attacking but still
Wait how many planets do the Elites own
Theres sanghelios
Potentially several thousand
Oh boy
That's a lot
I would take a guess of their total population be over a hundred billion if all of them had the relative same size of population
I wonder if there's a baby boom for the UEG post-war
What's the ueg
Unified Earth Government
No, every colony
Basically united nation but more advanced I'm taking a guess
Every colony (and Earth) that didn't go independent, at least
Ok
United colonies
I could see a baby boom after the war
Like after ww2 there was a baby boom
Both are big wars
Oh boy general chats going at it
Anyway back to lore
Do all cruisers have a glassing beam on them or only a select few
it could be inferred that any covenant vessel larger than a CCS-class battlecruiser has an energy projector of some sort
according to halopedia, RPV-class destroyers seem to be the smallest vessels with energy projectors
RPV's are just about a thousand feet shorter than CCS class
Halo ships are massive are covenant ships also self sufficient
Do they use extra space for growing food and manufacturing
Food is probably just stored in ration packs.
I see some of the size of the carriers those things could house millions of covenant alone
They must count as cities
Like mini high charity
The UNSC Infinity has places for growing food and there's some Covenant ships dedicated to specifically growing food for the rest of the fleet it's attached to
Is chief sterile?
Like ik Spartans dont have a shrex drive but are they sterilized just in case?
Why wouldnât you keep their genetic line going?
@modest dagger
Itâll sure be easier to indoctrinate and augment them the next time around
The augmentations lowered their reproductive drives.
Seems counterintuitive
It was a side effect, Web.
Oh, well then thatâs fair enough
Surprised Mariaâs kids are allowed to live free lives
@modest dagger Spartan kids will be easier to make Spartans than beforehand
Perhaps.
Theyâd already be very strong. John had perfect genes, his children would be beyond perfect if he had offspring with a female Spartan
Yeah and you wouldn't want John to be districted by the thicc from Kelly
I seriously doubt heâd have time to be
Even if he was interested, lol
Too much other stuff going on to get distracted
In down time mate
Spartans still gotta rest you know
So then you condone them not removing the drive? đ
Maybe
I personally wouldnât. Lot of creativity could come from it, from their POV
In that, it would affect their explorative nature
Just because Chief is a Spartan-II, doesn't mean he has "perfect" genes. Plus, last I checked, there was nothing that Halsey or ONI planned in regards to having the IIs having kids that they'll turn into more Spartans
That was an essential part of their screening for surviving the augmentations. They need perfect or near-perfect genetics
Just because it wasnât planned, doesnât suggest itâs a bad idea..
From the original canon, I always took Halsey are more of a guinea pig for ONIâs desire for producing supersoldiers â hence the hypocrisy of then putting the blame all on Halsey once they were done with her
There was a specific gene-candidate pool that the program went after which gave them advantages over others, but that doesn't mean their genes are perfect. Nobody has perfect genes
Well, very low percentile or sub-percentile of genes. Iâd say theyâre 99.9 percent better than average at the very least
That doesn't mean perfect
Youâre really reaching with your objection, here
wh- what are 'perfect' genes?
It's a fact that there's no such thing as perfect genes. You can have ones that give you an advantage, yes, but that doesn't mean perfect genes exist
Plus, one person's perfect genes is another's undesirable genes
I think there were certain biological requirements.
No idea where the 'perfect genes' thing comes from.
Why are you starting debates over things that are obvious to anyone. Theyâre perfect as in they are ideal for their criteria for the program. Get over it
Aye, like I said before, there was a specific gene-candidate pool, but they never used the phrase "perfect genes" when looking for S-IIs
Iâve seen that key word used in wikis, thought why not carry it along for consistency. But itâs clearly somewhat hyperbole
So in our world we got the technology now though in its infancy to change genes right now but since halo takes place hundreds of years from now it should be common place by then
Imagine every baby born having the Spartan genes
There is nothing for me to "get over"
Have you guys checked it
It's really fascinating
What have I stumbled across?
I think they're talking about genetics
John had perfect genes, his children would be beyond perfect if he had offspring with a female Spartan
you have a funny way of phrasing 'perfect as in they are ideal for their criteria', lmao
Was also at Caboose throwing his hands up in shock
But anyway, it is funny how ONI blackmail their pets once they cut ties with them. Of course, once the Spartan program became public they would need someone specific to blame. Hide themselves
They kidnapped children, that's not a good look
Heck, Halsey was more than happy to use children for experiments. You do see why that's wrong, right?
Some of the subjects didn't even survive.
Likely an offer she couldnât refuse
Halsey (voiceover): "Children's minds are more easily accepting of indoctrination, their bodies more adaptable to augmentation. The result was the ultimate soldier."
More like Halsey chose to use kids. Quote from Halo 4's prologue
Probably just parroting what older brass had told her
ONI wanted soldiers, they needed someone to make the technology from the resources they had. They hired Halsey to put it together
Wasnât even ONI at the time kinda like âyikesâ
They were suuuuuuper not cool with the cloned replacements
Psuedo-yikes at the very most
Why would she do that when she is imprisoned by ONI? She has no reason to try and defend them against themselves in that moment
Like sure, the interrogator in that scene isn't ONI but at that point she didn't know
Also the brass arenât scientists
That too
halsey bad
Halseyâs the scientist. ONI wasnât like âeyo Halsey, we need you to experiment on kids for usâ
Probably to make her come to a point where sheâd absorb all the blame for herself. ONI Interrogators wouldnât be honorable gentlemen
All right, Faber.
They were like âHalsey we need super soldiersâ
Halsey: âkidsâ
ONI: âwhat?â
Lol, thatâs definitely not how it went down
It's an oversimplification because I doubt Waffle has time to type out the Fall of Reach
It was biologically rational to choose those candidates, despite being very immoral and unethical. These were trying times for humanity so they resorted to recruiting drastic measures.
Nobody who works in the shadows to partake in projects that are innately inhumane, would be ethical
Also Halseyâs journal
Halsey has delusions of grandeur on her side.
Normal human beings wouldnât make a âmidnight facilityâ
that journal has so much scientific mumbo jumbo
It kinda wasnât though. Spartan project predated the covenant war. They were being made to fight rebelling farmers
Interrogator: "Dr. Halsey, you're bending history for your favor and you know it. You developed the Spartans to crush human rebellion, not to fight the Covenant."
Halsey says she did it to prevent inevitable civil war
the covenant stormed in far before we could know whether she was right about that or not
but.. i dont think she was?
It was a civil war the UNSC 100% caused
which is something they wouldn't ever admit
Oh, I completely overlooked that detail, lol. Yeah, ONI essentially used that as a convenient excuse.
Gaslighting, I presume
She was literally lying about the program in the interview. The interrogator knew she was and wanted her to stop
Halsey is half delusional and probably knew just outright saying in an interrogation âI viewed my horrific child experiments as humanityâs next necessary step of evolutionâ probably wouldnât hold up well.
âYou developed this, you developed thatâ. She was not chief of staff when it came to funding or resources, itâs insane to think ONI would have any moral high ground here
They definitely didnât
But you also have to remember who came to run ONI in the interim of the war
The Mjolnirâs reactive circuits in tandem with the liquid crystal later gave each armor an absurdly high budget window. Halsey doesnât have those kind of credits, obviously
Serin Osman. Notable spartan 2 flunkey who got crippled by Halseyâs experiments.
..Written by an infamous novelist known to personally resent Halsey in a meta sense
Sure, the canon may have an ONI bias. But it doesnât mean it should
You canât just delete canon
Why am I now getting deja vu?
I would have hate in my heart for Halsey as a Spartan-II, but only before I came to my senses and saw the puppet masters. Iâm sure many Spartans feel the same way
Seems like you noticed the pattern in Haloâs canonical holes
Or that I remember you trying to claim that something from 343i's era shouldn't be canon over an off hand comment from a Bungie dev
A similar swap was made to the Forerunners, yes. And I could say vice versa to that tenfold
i like halsey. one of the most interesting characters in during the whole insurrectionist-covenant chain of events IMO.
Again Halsey was leading the project. Everything she did was decided by her and signed off by begrudging higher ups. To say otherwise would not make her the leading expert on the project then.
She leads the project in a similar way a director does for a movie. If her âhandlersâ say theyâre not doing what she suggests, the responsibility is on them to point out what is unethcial. But Iâm sure itâs worse than just âwe let herâ. They wanted her to. Forced her, even â then made her take the blame to cover their rears
She definitely was not forced to use kids
They donât have the savviness to make Spartans on their own
You're now trying to change what was canon to fit what you are trying to argue
When was that stated?
Iâm at work but Iâll break out Halseyâs journal when I get home
Until I find a book with Halsey being explicit with wording her choice for it, Iâm assuming the decision is done by the people who have the kill switch for the entire program
Again, an excerpt that canât be interpreted
Halsey (voiceover): "Children's minds are more easily accepting of indoctrination, their bodies more adaptable to augmentation. The result was the ultimate soldier."
Literally posted this earlier but I guess that isn't a good enough quote for you
It isnât
Iâd like to see what Nylund has to say on it. Halo 4 made a lot of subtle changes I didnât agree were the original vision in the story.. which makes holes when there are canonical parts in the sourced pathway
Well. You can differentiate between the classes
9.8 teratons
Lol
That's crazy
Is Jun Asian?
Yup
Ok cool
Jun is alive, we don't know the details of how he got off Reach but he did and became a recruiter and trainer for the Spartan IV program
It's so weird because I see the concept art his Asian descent but I see the comic and his white
And Jun is an Asian name
I always though he was tan in my opinion
I honestly thought most of Noble team looked hispanic ngl
Emile and Noble 6 were both definitely hispanic
Noble 6 kinda sounded like he was a bit
Noble 6 doesn't have a canon race
Emile's Black
there are black hispanics
But he sounds hispanic
I'm white but both my parents are Cuban
Iâd say heâs mixed. I know some people who have that look of his, theyâre half Dutch, some lines from the Phillipines
I suppose
I could see it
Iâd say there would be quite a bit of mixed races in Halo not often seen today
I think I can remember some characters who appeared entirely european, but had Chinese surnames
Well if you think about after centuries of Earth being globalised most people have mixed descent
it makes a lot of sense
Also earth is under a single government
So not much barriers for immigration
Thought culture seems to still be prevalent hence the Hungarians in reach
Not inherently a bad thing
Yes
..yes what
I agree
Lol
Right
The more I think about 800 inhabited worlds, the more ridiculous it is
Unless âinhabitedâ is âwe have a research station thereâ for 750+ of them
Yeah
Also population is too small I think
Should be 50 billion
I donât know the numbers
But even as a sphere, billions for one world is pretty chaotic
Especially when trying to have any kind of relationship with multiple other colonies
The population pre war was 39 billion
Which is pretty low for 500 years into the future
Not really we got 7 billion here and still lots of space
You could fit everyone on earth the size of texas
Physical density isnât the point
Itâs about communication lines
Weâre in a strange period of time, itâs unwise to assume the future will simply scale that way. Perhaps it would, but we cannot be sure of it
Also most settled planets are going to have a few generations of lower population turnover as they establish planeside resources
You need to do landscaping, terraforming, establish farms and food supplies, build up local industry and infrastructure, etc etc.
And there's only so much space tech can help with that.
Hence why I think 800 populated worlds is too much
Does sound a little odd, when you consider the Sangheili, having discovered slipspace centuries before the War of Beginnings, only had 76 colonies. But willing to bet they developed each colony fully rather then just put a small population on like humans
Maybe sangheili donât have a concept of manifest destiny like humans do
Maybe they intentionally didnât spread too much to be more in tune with nature or something
It's not 800 populated worlds, its 800 colonies which includes proper colonies like Reach or New Carthage down to space stations and asteroids and outposts.
And I agree with Chimera. There could be any number of reasons the Sangheili didn't spread out as much as Humanity. They're a different species with different cultures and ideas.
different species with different cultures and ideas like humans đł insurrectionists ftw
Could be the other reason was due to many planets having forerunner relics in more habitable areas. They would need.tonfind different sites to set up the cony
Iâm concerned about the worlds being homogenised too much in themes. People didnât like Contact Harvestâs â17 Coloniesâ figure, but I believe thatâs a good strong point in identifying the character types for each planet (beliefs, architecture styles, geology, topography etc)
All new planets introduced have all seemed like more of the same (with a few exceptions, such as Cascade)
Did people seriously dislike a particular figure?
Ah?
Of all the elements to complain about, they chose a figure?
It takes the covenant 27 years to destroy 17 colonies
All right? Those colonies could have heavy defenses.
Destroying a planet every few years is weak? Lol
The UNSC didn't anticipate for a large scale attack on Reach, right?
Itâs not like they just are able to teleport in front of a planet and go ham all the time
Higher echelons of ONI and/or FLEETCOM knew it was going to happen sooner or later
Destroying a few planets a week of 17 planets for 27 years?
Cause I'm referring to the 17 number
Not the 800
Section 3 I believe actually kinda wanted it to happen, such a large military presence at Reach would inevitably bring large covenant vessels that Operation RED FLAG would need to be executed.
A few planets a week is a little ridiculous
It wouldn't always be planets as toa says
It isn't 800 planets
Its 800 planets,space stations,and mining places
I would expect to see the minute colonies being destroyed within that time-frame, not planetary ones.
Some colonies were tiny
One had lonly 4000 people
Which goes for a lot of outer colonies
What was the population of the largest one?
Iirc it was reach with 700 million
What about the second largest population?
Reach's collapse could just be used as an example of the importance behind organisation and structure, I suppose.
There isn't a lot of forewarning for a lot of covenant invasions
Plus the unsc did know about the covenant on reach for a while
The secret covenant force on reach which nobody noticed until the main covenant force of 200 came and destroyed reach
They were blinded by arrogance and confidence in the notion that the Covenant would never attack such a line of defense.
Spartan Jorge-052 is even suspended in disbelief when Emile initially suggests the thought of it.
Reach was Jorgeâs home. His disbelief was sentimental not âcovenant dumbâ
"Well... the big man was sentimental."
I never implied that he thought lowly of their intelligence.

I was highly paraphrasing bro lol Iâm saying he isnât looking at it like âman why would they be here??â Hes like âdude my home Planet is going to burnâ
No, you incorrectly simplified my messages.
Fair enough
On top of this, do you really think that personnel wouldn't share a similar mindset to Jorge?
To reiterate myself though, by July of 2552, ONI and FLEETCOM had begun discussing the inevitable discovery of Reach, eventually deciding that the loss of the planet was worth the successful launch of Red Flag from the planet
And wym
A situation where a personal bias affects their tactical judgement.
Colonel Holland sounded quite surprised by the outcome.
Well nobody wakes up and says to themselves âtodayâs the day the covenant are gonna show upâ
Iâd be pretty surprised and scared in anyoneâs shoes
NOBLE team is pretty far removed from the commands that anticipated the fall of reach though
Well, that is exactly what certain soldiers believed on other planets, from what I remember, lol. They were waiting for the inevitable to occur.
Being that they were technically under Army command
Only senior leaders in the Navy as far as we know were aware of Reachâs impending doom
In fact, the Long Night of Solace was being targeted for Red Flag until SPECWARCOM blew it up
That is precisely my point about the entire matter, though. Reach's collapse was a result of its poor management and arrogance.
Whose arrogance
Arrogance of personnel for believing that the Covenant wouldn't attempt to attack Reach.
Who knows mang
There was definitely a sense that Reach was an impregnable stronghold that would be able to fend off attack but idk if Lance Corporal Schmuckatelli was telling his mom on FaceTime ânah we wonât ever see any action here donât worry about meâ
I personally think the opposite, yet here we are. You are also incorrectly simplifying my arguments again.
I don't recall any lore stating that they thought Reach could actually hold off a covenant attack
Didn't Reach have SMACs?
It did, 20 of them
Then why did they resort to irregular warfare by sneaking a valuable slipspace bomb onto a Covenant corvette and sending it on a suicide run to a super carrier?
It's one of Reach's inconsistencies, I suspect.
They didn't anticipate for the drive requiring a manual override either.
I would've thought humanity's military hub would have better defenses.
Pretty much, in the book, the planet fell in mere hours, there was no multi-long month battle
Speaking of the Sabre Program, did John receive training for it?
Currently, no, i don't think so. But his thing in thE old CE manuel did claim he was "trained in every human/covenant vehicle" so maybe?
Are we supposed to assume that Cortana informed John about how they are piloted in H4?
Eh I would assume he just learned at some point prior to reach falling
the ships in H4 are broadswords, not sabres. also he would have been known how to fly the broadsword because they dated back to 2535
in fact, im pretty sure they were at reach when she fell
yeah, "while entire squadrons were deployed with YSS-1000 Sabres during the Fall of Reach."
My mistake. Thanks.
np
It also apparently never had nukes
What makes you say that?
Don't forget that the UNSC were employing tactics that predate the 1800s too.
That was literally the reason they resorted to the slip space bomb
I think the force you were with in tip of the spear was a diversion force
Though yea its mostly just rule of cool
@craggy sierra wasn't that more so, all the nearby ships went down with their payload?
Didn't Carter mention that all the nukes were either already used up or destroyed by the Covenant by the time of that level?
Issue #1, assuming I remember Carter.
Lieutenant Commander Kat-B320: "That thing's crushing us, and we're waiting for backup? They'll be backing up a graveyard."
Commander Carter-A259: "All our nukes are either out-system or went down with the ships that carried them. You're preaching to the converted."
I would say, at that point, they likely only had grouns-based nukes
And they couldnât rig one of those to a timer for the same thing?
Had they tried, likely would have been zapped by the carrier
Weâre talking about doing the exact same plan, just with a nuke bomb instead of slip space
You could argue that might happen to the carriers of a different bomb, lol. You know, the ones who delivered a specific drive?
Nuke would have been less powerful in the void, and the Long Night was of similar size to a station whose shields could tank a small moon hitting it
What about a situation where the Ardent Prayer would be used to plant it internally on the Long Night of Solace?
it wouldent be very different
but the sabres would be shot off before it boarded
and you would need to be designated or whatever
A nuke going on in a ship especially when the shields hold can be... devastagintg
You would be in for a beautiful display of fireworks.
This is a good point, I never thought of this before. Regarding placing a nuke aboard the Ardent Prayer. Rule of cool I suppose.
How would you deceive Rho 'Barutomee, though?
@terse lava minor correction, Reach had 30 ODPs
@jagged stirrup ah, could have sworn 20, but it has been a long time since I read the book so thats fine
Also referring to earlier, thereâs some contrived explanation as to how the game and FoR make sense
Too lazy to type it out on my phone but tldr, HURRRR ONI DID IT AGAIN
why do the brutes hate the elites so much?
becasue they see them as opposition to their role
Because the brutes thought they were unworthy. Which is why the great schism happened.
do they really like anyone?
the prophets
I'm pretty sure the Sangheili didn't much like the San 'Shyuum either.
It goes from individual to individual. Some san shyuum and Sangheili got along well. Others despised each other, only showing respect for the station of the other.
Mainly just Truth
Regret liked them quite a bit
He spent so much time around them that he even adopted some of their mannerisms
truth wasnt a real prophet in the end but rather a fanatic
Well Contact Harvest showed he believed in the Journey, due to evidence, but wasn't a big zealot about it. He was also the first of the three to say, "if what the orcale says is true then all we have ever believed was a lie," compared to Regret, who thought the orcale had been tampered with
Truth was a charismatic zealot, as well as a cunning manipulator. How else could be have kept the Covenant together as long as he did without something like the Schism happening?
I'd say he more adopted that role, as he knew he had to lie to keep the Covenant together
The forklift is the best vehicle in halo reach, maybe even all of halo
Reach had 20 ODPs
i must be ran through with an energy sword now
Chapter 31, The Fall of Reach: one. "There were twenty Super MAC guns in orbit."
Just in case y'all want a direct source.
page 283 ;)
Thought so
Forklift >>>>>> the Halo rings
......would the halos technically count as vehicles?
no
I feel like a Warthog armed with an automatic grenade launcher in the lore wouldnât be a horrible idea
that would need to be alot of grenades
also why would you need that if rocket hogs and gauss hogs exist
i dont think that would work out. It would fill a very niche role that other vehicles already have
the idea is kinda cool, just wouldent fit in well
On another note, the latest book makes guilty spark the most endearing character I love him
although not much of a spoiler, lets keep the new book in #485883236430512168 for now
Well, the rocket hog is primarily for anti-air and the Gauss turret is for anti-vehicle. An automatic grenade launcher allow you to take out large groups of infantry and do good damage against light armored vehicles.
Look at it from a practicality stand point, using a gauss-hog or a rocket hog against a single guy is like using a javelin missile to take out one guy,
Use the automatic grenade launcher and three shots would probably be enough to take out a few lances of covenant troops
Rather than having to go each guy with a gauss turret or waiting for the rocket hog to reload after every barrage
one word...
s c o r p i o n
lore wise, it would need alot of range
or else it will blow you up too
Well letâs consider a similar weapon in real life like the MK-19, the Mark-19 has a range of 2,200 meters and unless your an idiot your not gonna be blowing stuff up right in your face like you wouldnât blow stuff up in your face like the rocket hog
And my answer to the scorpion is, if thatâa the solution than why not use scorpions for everything, well because itâs a slow moving tank.
okay
but
if you want something that shoots explosives and at a target thats far you could use other things
Btw just to make sure there isnât any confusion Iâm purely speaking about in the lore, if this existed in the games it would probs be broken.
a nadehog would be unconventional
It definitely wouldnât be unconventional though, you have a warthog with a machine gun the shoots grenades how could that not be conventional.
I mean weâve already seen automatic grenade launchers used on Falcons, I donât see why they wouldnât be mounted on warthogs in the lore
give me one good scenario where the hog would be more useful than what we already have
Aight, thereâs a squad behind cover, you have a gauss hog but you donât know where they are so chances are your gonna miss them and with a rocket hog if you donât get em all in the first barrage your done, what do you do? Light em up with a short burst of grenades not only will there explosive properties destroy the cover completely you could probably lob grenades over the enemies preventing the from running away.
This is pretty much what automatic grenade launchers are used for in real life.
Or hey, your defending a position, a bunch of covenant soldiers coming your way from idk, 600 meters, canât really see em so you canât use any of the other hogs, light em up with grenades
a gauss cannon is more accurate than a nade launcher
Hell, your base is about to be overrun by a bunch of troops and your rocket hog takes too long to load so thatâs not exactly the best answer, the gauss hog can only take em out one at a time and they are to spread out for a machine gun to effectively cut them down, light em up with the nade launcher
Your missing the point, Iim not saying that the nade launchers are more accurate, Iâm saying with a gauss hog your only taking em out one at a time and you canât see em so your probably gonna be taking pot shots so a grenade launcher machine gun would probs be better suited.
Also thatâs a lot of set up time and resources used for something that could easily be solved with just an automatic grenade launcher warthog.
Why use anything at all when you can just call in an airstrike
so something with damage spread, range, cheapish, and not too op
Yes.
- wave: snipers. 2. wave: landmines. 3. wave: rocket launchers. any more after that can be taken out by infantry
also this is loosely based on what happened in SoR
Again, so much resources used for something that could just be solved by a warthog with a grenade launcher
Why use like 20 guys when you can just have 2 guys in a warthog minimum that can do the same thing as, if not, more effectively
if a run-down militia with barely any military training and resources from 12+ years ago can withstand a full-blown banished attack, than the unsc should be able to stop an invasion
but, maybe, just maybe the hog might be usefull
gn
How long to power the infinity mac canon?
Iâm... pretty sure there isnât an official stat for that.
yeah
but from cutscenes, trailers, and other media; we can assume that it doesn't take too long
atleast compared to other ships
I wonder how the Banished managed to take down Infinity. It's been attacked like six times, by other Covenant remnants, insurrectionists, and Prometheans (who, on both occasions, worked alongside ol' Julie's Covenant).
They've succeeded where others have failed
What makes you think Infinity was taken down?
There no real stats for it. It varies by MAC model, ship, and possible more. Lots of variables go into how long it can take.
The Halopedia page has a few stats (CTRL+F "minutes") https://www.halopedia.org/Magnetic_Accelerator_Cannon
The Magnetic Accelerator Cannon (MAC), also known as the Mass Accelerator Cannon, is a weapon system employed by the United Nations Space Command on its warships and orbital defense platforms. Essentially large coilguns, MACs serve as the primary armament of UNSC Navy warships and weapon platforms.
But nothing for Infinity
the best thing that can be done is estimate things with the places it shows but
that's not striaght out source
Was Master cheif kidnapped at like.. 6 years old?
The Infinite trailer and demo
Yup. To fight rebels.
It would be really stupid if Infinity is still around
âYeah, we crushed your forces.. except your hugeass flagship which is a thousand times better than anything else you haveâ
basicly
\
then he was genetically modified to die in order for a bunch of fat dudes to continue "peacefully" ruleing earth!
so yeah
very fun
Itâd be awesome to have a Halo game pre-covenant war, where itâs like Metro x Battlefront where each open world environment is one of the 17 human colonies
To add insult to injury, he gets repurposed to fight an alien alliance
I heavily believe ONI was aware of Covenant and Forerunners long before they came
it wouldn't be dumb if infinity was around, infinity might have had to leave
They still got Eternity.
unfinished
Then that makes them look like extreme cowards to abandon Master Chief like that
I wonder if there's gonna be a third one, named Serenity
Did you read shadows of reach?
Who are you talking to
You web
I allegedly read Shadows of Reach
Blue team being left behind was a legitimate possibility.
Eww, right
One John understood
Well I think itâd be much better if itâs destroyed. Itâs the narrative foundation of their dominance over the galaxy
Having Lasky just leave John behind all the time makes me not like him much
If I wanted to read Point of Light, do I need to read any other books besides Smoke and Shadow and Renegades?
I dunno
Forerunner Trilogy would probably useful for some additional context on Spark/Chakas but nothing else should really be ârequiredâ reading
Just donât play Halo 3, or itâll all be meaningless
Because then you realise Sparkâs actually a hack
The Pilot is surprisingly likeable, for a change
How did we see regret alive and In the hands of grave mind in halo 2 yet we killed him
How much of Earth's fauna was saved by the Librarian and the Lifeworkers?
UNSC: United Nations Space command UNSC: United nations security council
I just busted my third artery
@pulsar pivot flood gain all the memories of all the beings they infect including corpses
No
Infinity has all the plot armour of chief
What about the trailers makes you think Infinity was destroyed?
I don't see why.
Why did people hate Infinity so much? It's so weird...
My guess is it's something to do with the idea of humanity should always be on the back foot despite the fact that it makes logical sense for the UNSC to want to make something like Infinity, especially given the size of many Covenant ships, that they were losing more and more colonies and needed a backup if Earth fell and the fact that in the post war era, they would be able to focus more on making advancements like what are seen in the Infinity
And maybe also a sprinkle of Bungie bias in there as well. That's what I see from most people who hate on Infinity as much as they do
The Infinity was really the only way the UNSC could possibly go when it comes to a ship upgrade
For all people harp on the ship for being "overpowered" or whatever the Infinity sure hasn't actually had a very good track record in fiction
I'd say its only lil bit more powerful than the CAS, and the UNSC only have one infinity
and at the same time the Infinity is the only ship that can effectively go up against most covenant ships really
its not OP for the UNSC in my opinion
Debuts by slamming into Requiem while partially disabled, goes back to Requiem only to get stuck to the planet with Forerunner gravity magic, torn a couple new holes at Oth Lodon, on the run after the Created uprising.
people who think the Infinity is OP probably don't see things in perspective
The hate for it I'd say stems from the ironic idea that despite decades of war and massive population loss and infrastructure, the UEG was pretty much able to bounce back in only a few years. Meanwhile, the larger Covenant, who overall suffered very little losses, gets shattered like fine china.
An empire toppled by its enemies can rise again. But one which crumbles from within? Thatâs dead forever.
Would a bubble shield function normally if you activated it in a moving vehicle?
Bubble shields have activated while falling
They form full spheres but when theyâre on ground we only see half of it
How did blue team get to Argent Moon at the beginning of Halo 5. They have a pelican but as far as I know it doesnât have a slip space drive and there arenât any other UNSC ships around. I guess infinity could have dropped them off but this is bothering me
Infinity did drop them off.
I was mainly wondering if movement disrupts their fields.
where in the trailers or demo does it get taken down?
no
not much at least
where in the trailers or demo does it get taken down?
Nothing outright shows the Infinity being destroyed, there's just a brief scene in the campaign gameplay premiere that shows a bunch of IFF tags from the Infinity that read as deceased.
So some people are taking that as the ship's been destroyed or some other thing has happened to it.
where?
...In the campaign gameplay premiere.
It's a short scene. Towards the end.
um... ill keep an eye out for that then
When the brute guy is giving his speech
So how do lekgolo worms know where you are
Do they have eyes đď¸
Lekgolo are relatively unintelligent at the most basic level, but can form complex thoughts and emerge as a conscious individual when they combine into larger masses that communicate through chemical and electrical means. A colony's level of intelligence is generally dependent on the amount of neural mass present,
The IFF thing implies Infinity was destroyed or at least taken over
The wrecked ship we see in the demo after MC kills that group of Grunts looks to be of another class as it's too small to be Infinity
I refuse to believe they took down the infinity
I'll say it was probably a punch of other pelicans from infinity
But that would be unfortunate
If so
Lasky better be alive
Don't worry, all the important characters will escape Infinity's total destruction.
I wouldn't hold my breath.
the IFFs dont imply that it wa destroyed or taken over.
I hope it isn't destroyed though. I don't want the UNSC to be more nerfed than they already are.
How can colony talk in halo wars 2 if heâs a bunch of worms formed together
Voice modulator that converts vibrations to speech.
Oh thatâs cool
B-B-But status quo
Humanity will be such an underdog that it'll be ridiculous
Ikr
Actually I think just in that area that it will be worse earth will still be ok
At least for now
Spoiler Bomb
||Master chief is a forerunner and he is the Iso-Didact also the inheritor of all the forerunners have left behind.||
im very afraid that infinity went down in order to save master chief and took down a piece of the zeta halo, also Lasky has a good chance have sacrificed his self sadly.
I REFUSE TO BELIEVE LASKY IS DEAD
Ha
it s probably the spirit of fire too
I mean
Humans lost
it was said
some people died for sure
the question is who died
Oatmeal u say that now but cortana was an important character and she died anyways, they can do what they want with the halo universe
Why would a ship housing 5000 crew members go down for chief?
Especially when said ship was ready to bail on him if things went south in Shadows of Reach
17,151 crew to be exact
because there something about chief that is revealed but I dont want to spoil
For Cortana, she got a whole lotta scenes dedicated to her eventual death (and didn't """"""die"""""" anyway, so...)
And 343 knows Lasky is one of their most popular original characters, they know it'd be a pretty bad idea to toss him and leave with with less characters the audience sympathizes with.
Same goes for Palmer
You don't know anything about the game that we don't know.
I didnt say you dont know anything about the game
all Im saying is that master chief is worth to even sacrifice the whole infinity
Nah
No heâs not
if they care about humanity
Shadows of Reach literally contradicts that
John would agree that everyone on Infinity is worth more than just him.
its not stuff that are in new books
and its not a moral thing or about him being a supersoldier
anyways good night because its late here
...Is this about that geas theory.
Itâs youâre made up head canon that doesnât exist?
lmao
I've no clue.
Infinity had a handful of Swords Of Sanghelios personnel onboard so chances are we might see them
It would be nice. A bone to throw.
The infinity would have ditched blue team if they didn't do the mission in time
@gilded mason maybe they will have a little "save point" camp nearby
I meant ostral but autocorrect ya know?
Never kill an army of thousands for one man I know for a fact if the odds were against master chief 10,000 to 1 he would die if the infinities crew were against that 10,000 they may have a chance
You forgot one thing @cobalt thunder master chief got plot armour
Luck only goes so far
Bland; flawless. Not very interesting as a character
Are there any recordings of a Flood Infected Forerunner?
No
Infinity?
But was it possible though?
Why would they recorded a flood infected forerunner it only just make growls and moans
Why would they be worried if forerunners would be immune
Let me rephrase that
If the forerunners were immune why would they be worried about being infected and build the rings
Oh
But what if they're immune to being infected yet still be able to be killed by the flood?
They could
Let's put it this way
If a zombie tried to kill you yet your immune dk you think you could survive just because your immune
Oh
The forerunnera, like all life, could be infected by the flood. There were attempts to make themselves immune to the Parasite, from using the composer, to certain types of harnesses to slow the infection process. All eventually failed.
Did the composer make them immune
No
Are Forerunners human-like?
The goal was for the mind of the infected individual to be taken out of their rotting body and put in a fresh new body. When this happened, the age came with them and infected the new body too
Is the Didact human-like though?
Oh
He's a forerunner, so yes
Somewhat
Just a little less human-like than most Forerunners
Plenty of forerunner images there
All forerunners are pretty close
Can The Flood corrupt mechanical systems?
Yes
And are Prometheans a machine?
More that sufficiently intelligent AI can be swayed by logic plague
They are organic minds.put into a machine body and whose will is dampened
Which is a sort of computer virus that will bend the AI to the Floods will
So does that mean they can technically be infected by the Flood?
Not...everyone technically
Everything?
Offensive Bias was able to resist, as his programming prevented him from thinking on the arguments the flood would use against him via the logic plague
Mostly everyone is able to be infected
IIRC, only the Lek'golo are technically immune to Flood infection. Granted, they can still be used as biomass.
Although, I would have to wonder if the Huragok are immune as well.
They are
Lekgolo worms arenât immune, they just arenât suitable for making combat forms
Engineers arenât actually organic. Theyâre fake organic
what do moa burgers taste like? and what was their origin?
What?
Moaâs are indigenous to Reach but were exported all over UNSC space. They probably taste something like emu
That begs another question what do emus taste like?
I'm gonna guess they taste like chicken because they're bird like
He said infinity. Not noble six or rookie.
Also their largest number is on Ganick 22 I think thatâs where wyjax exported them to before the fall of reach
@versed helm emu tastes like beef (apparently) thus the moa likely does too, seeing as there are.moa burgers
Are cows extinct in Halo
No
Then why do they eat Moa burgers?
Hunt the truth season 2 even mentions them.
... cows are not found everywhere for one.
For two. More animals ...
Like people also eat pig on earth. Why would they not eat a new animal if they found one?
Well they could import cows
Maybe they donât have best time adapting or thereâs other local stuff.
People eat a lot of stuff you know?
Fair enough
And theyâre down to try new stuff.
It's just in our world were so squeamish about trying different meats
Maybe you. Not everyone
All depends on culture and diet, some will happily pop down bug grubs like popcorn, or eat horse, dog, cat, etc
What are Mac charge times
The wiki has some numbers
But does anyone know what the big mid covenant war ones are
I feel like this is the third or fourth time you've asked in the past few days and the answer is still going to more or less be "we don't really know".
I donât even know you dude
So thanks for nothing first of all
Second of all
Dudes come in and out all the time
Look, there aren't any concrete numbers. If anyone knew about any, I'm sure they'd be listed on Halopedia.
22 thousand people in here and some dude I donât know is going to try to bust me up lol
Teek moment
Iâll ask again because dudes come in who might know.
You'll get rough guesswork at best because not even Warfleet covers those kinds of specifications.
And itâs so funny because Iâve only asked twice for mid war and once for the infinity.
So you failed even at that
So... third time.
Duh eeenfeeniteee iz mid woar
I guess youâll just have to sob into your pillow when I do ask a third time - which I am going to
wat
...Did I hit a nerve or something?
I have halo books but only a handful and not in a digital format
I'm not sure why you're acting so offended over this.
I'm just saying there are literally no specs for MAC charge times.
Wait
You canât say
Wtf
What the heck bro
And youâre wrong
Iâll take an example in a book where it says a paris class takes 12 minutes to charge
I want examples if possible
Yeah I don't think any books ever even have those numbers.
I have the books but itâs not digital. I canât just control F everything
Well youâre wrong lol
Because we get numbers on mac speed and charge time in even fall of reach
Teek
I just cited my source bro
Nice attempt
P sure ghosts of onyx does too
I cannot physically touch my copy atm
I mean if you've got direct quotes to back up your claims I'm fully willing to accept that my assumptions were wrong.
I can in a few hours
The wiki mentions a few examples. But I am interested in more. And my experience is that wikis are unreliable at best
Wookiepedia for example cites a fanon rpg sourcebook
Weâll wait for you to post proof. In the meantime try being nicer to people
...Wookieepedia?
You're looking at a Star Wars wiki for stats relating to Halo tech...?
Bruh
Read it again
Iâm saying wikis are flawed
They are not objective sources of information
Oh that's the point you were making.
And I have experience with wookiepedia where they will let a fan made sourcebook through the cracks
I thought you meant you were looking for MAC info on a Star Wars wiki for whatever reason.
Halopedia is community run but itâs admins do their best to keep everything accurate
Wook is the same
I know wikis can be... less than ideal but Halopedia is generally one of the better curated ones so I feel less concerned about abhorrent inaccuracies.
So most of the time is a good enough source
Halopedia has several moderators who actively review adjustments to pages, as a method of countering vandalism, lol. I would argue that it is a very reliable source of information.
The heck is this mess?
Something that escalated from something innocuous
Would you prefer it if I deleted my message, Chimera?
No I was talking about the other guy
He was asking for MAC charge times at the mid point during the War? Does he mean the SMACs?
Yes
It was a harmless question and I responded to hostility
And it is over

I would appreciate this. Speed of gun, ammo capacity, charge time, yield, mass of weapon. Anything that you know about
I will never be a halo expert, especially not ten years after leaving the franchise proper
@gentle ridge not my area of expertise, and the answer has not changed. No real concrete way to answer
The wiki page on them would be best to use, as it uses sources from the various books
Speaking of, @obsidian thistle, wasn't MAC stuff talked about just yesterday in HP?
What am I reading here? @terse lava
Cause the MAC scenario is... well its complicated no matter what you go into
Guy was curious on MAC stuff,
Lets say the Halopedia page in this case needs a full rehaul. But the info isnt wrong.
And then theres the TFoR scenario that causes a right headache lol
Mhm
So I wonder if ELites or anything wondered why certain Forerunner tech only operated for humans during the war. I assume some did but kept it private and/or made excuses for it
Yeah, plenty wondered
Cos like you think they'd object to bringing humans to activate their gods tech etc
like HW with Anders
Or the Ark itself with Johnson
Too fanatical to care in some cases i guess
Wish we could see more of their thought process regarding that bag o' worms, yeah
That said with not every human being able to use Forerunner tech. Its essentially luck of the draw.
Yah but those who can are seen by elites and brutes use it
or operate for them
Regreat brought Anders specifically cos they couldn't activate ships on Shield World
I imagine Ripa was too zealous to question why demons/enemies of their gods were able to use their gods tech
Jiralhanae don't really care, as for the Sangheili, likely just depends on individual
Same here
What book is set Inbetween 5 and infinite?
Halo: Shadows of Reach.
Point of Light is another one.
There is also Halo: Bad Blood
And while not a book there is that investigation Apollo went on during Series 2 of the Loot Crate Data Drops.
See here: https://www.halopedia.org/Halo_Legendary_Crate/Data_Drops#Series_2_2
UNSC Data Drop is a collection of classified documents, all of which are owned by Spartan-IV 92738-61842-LC of Fireteam Apollo. These serve as the lore behind the Halo Legendary Crate, and are usually based around the theme of the crate it is in. The events behind Crate #4 regarding to the Mission to the Korinth Prior system are further expanded...
Not gonna lie that last one seems more important knowing what we heard from that Halseys Journal audio clip we got.
Speaking of novels, I never took the opportunity to read The Flood. Is it worth changing that?
I found it to be a fun read. Though you will be reading stuff you are very familiar with that a lotta folks struggle with.
Gameplay segments dont jive well with a lotta folks. But I personally dont mind it.
That probably won't bother me. Thanks!
Thereâs only so many ways a book can put a spin on âchief shot a grunt in the faceâ
Best parts really were the "behind the scenes" stuff
Is the book quite repetitive?
Itâs just the parts that follow the chief
I imagine that happens rather frequently, yes?
So so, it doesn't.focus on chied as much as you think
Chief shot a grunt in the face
The SPARTAN pumped lead in the alien's skull
Master Chief used his weapon on the cowardly infantry unit
out of energy, any more varients?
Chief blasted a load of lead into the enemy
As their face imploded because of the bullet that just went into its skull
The continuity issues right?
I donât mind what either side says if thereâs contradiction
Though Iâm unfamiliar with the issues. Itâs been explained to me and I still forget
As a kid that read for when he was nine, to go on to play reach expecting characters to appear who didnât sucked
More, a number that would be planet killing was used xD
Well according to TFoR chapter 31. The Mark V Superheavy MACs found over Reach were capable of accelerating a 3,000 ton projectile to "point four-tenths" of lightspeed.
Which fyi in real life is insane. And well later media dont support it much.
We source it on the wiki. But we are skeptical its still fact.
@gentle ridge
Oh that
Itâs actually not that insane
I do remember thinking it was epic as a kid but couldnât remember the figure
Wait
0.4/10?
Thatâs 51 gigatons
Pretty epic
Thatâs actually about 1900x less than what killed the dinosaurs
I get they may conveniently have forgotten it. Which honestly is cringe on later mediaâs part. Continuity issues are lame
I loved it. My friend was telling me he hated it and read it recently tho. I canât qualify it much personally, I havenât read in over a decade
I got the republic commando books and two halo ones on the same day when I was nine.
Very awesome
Oh I swore again
Smh
Ye
Also
Man this book is awesome. I forgot how good it was. Nylund the hero. I think this is why I loved space combat so much
Also this book says a supermac takes five seconds to charge
Or reload
It seems like the ones on reach are all capable at least
Didnât think Iâd ever read this book again but I might
I really donât like post 3 era. Are there any halo books with space combat this good?
Evolutions has a great Cole Story in it thats highly regarded
Literally every objection I get is someone who pretends to be clueless. Why canât you make a counterpoint about how itâs at least somewhat enticing, from a narrative perspective?
How does it marry well with the other elements? What parts of the story does it expand on, why?
And that doesnât mean âwell it answers this plot hole and thatâ. I mean, why is it good for the story?
Infinity is a ship
Infinity is the ship
So they hate the ship infinity
Not fond of it myself either
People don't like the UNSC being on top
With the Created dominating the galaxy, they're in an even lower underdog position than they ever were during the Covenant War, even with Infinity.
Not really
The created present a threat to humanityâs freedom, whereas the covenant presented a threat to their survival
By the end of the HCW, humanity was down to earth as the last stronghold
The idea of the UEG rebounding so fast and building up as if they haven't been at war for decades. Is what irrates me
~If only Halo 4 was decades later~
I think Adoâs just mad that the infinity can crash through a covenant cruiser like no big deal
The infinity was in development during the war, they didnât just build it in the 4 years after
I always felt the books suggested some other ones remained
But yeah basically
Do not tag Admins or Moderators unless immediate action is needed. If you see anything that does not abide by these rules and guidelines, please tag a Moderator to bring it to their attention.
Not at all Chimera, I am fine with that event.
All of a sudden the unsc is so powerful the infinity can probably out reactor its entire mid war military at the same time lol
I don't like that scene mainly because I really just think it looks silly.
Wheras I donât recall covenant worlds taking significant losses
Infinity doesnât look any sillier than the autumn
Infinity looks great to me. There were 3 renders? that came from halo 5 portfolio I THINK recently
The scene, not the ship's visuals itself.
Oh
Isnât the infinity shielded too
Yeah
Well it was an advanced ship, facing down. Covenant police cutters and 1000+ year old ships
What's the Huragok again?
Will ways take a CAS over the infinity
Though it's still a relatively large ship, even when compared to Infinity. Like a pickup truck smashing cleanly through a smaller car on the road without getting a single dent. So it just feels off, even with shielding.
I am very far behind the lore
The artfical pink floating jellyfish like aliens@versed helm
Yeah
@gilded mason eh the RCS barley has shields, so I can sort of hand wave it
Yep
Ohh
I think we actually first saw them in the fall of reach book
But still, many tons of nanolamite metal
What's the Human nickname for Lek'golo though?
Hunter
Yeah
No
What is it called then?
Oh, you mean Hunter for individual worms? Then no
Individual worms
They probably donât have a name
Just...worms i guess
No human nickname for single eels
Because I imagine the only time they saw them was the full thing
Nothing really official
I'll just call them "Long Beans"
Um..ok?
It was so weird being a halo fan that read the books before halo 3 came out
I had such high expectations for 3/reach
Oh maybe we will see other Spartans
Oh maybe we will see engineers in halo 3
Linda surely will appear in halo reach
Lol
I still remember being amazed at finally seeing a Jiralhanae flood combat form
Unironically thinking we would see spartan threes in 3 lol
By the way. Reach is a continuity issue in that respect right?
Spartan 3s shouldnât be shielded iirc
And they shouldnât be on reach?
The ones in reach did not ha e that
SPI is not shielded, MJOLNIR is. Noble wears MJOLNIR
And I only vaguely recall some dude taking a jackal shield in the line of fire
Yes. But my question is, is noble a continuity issue
Why do they suddenly have armour
The ones in Ghost of Onyx.did wear the armor typical of an SIII
Shielded armour*
Someone only recently pointed out that halo wars has Spartans with shields before they get it in the books. I have no idea if this is true tho
They have armor because bungie wanted them too. It was their last game, and I dont think they really cares too much about the lore in the books
