I do think Halo’s breaking of narrative status quo going from the original trilogy to the new games is one of its best and also most underused assets.
Cause Halo is sitting on something special with its universe. Where we once had the narrative status quo set in a war that was just a straight up fight for survival at all times. But that war ended and so the status quo has moved on. We made some allies out of enemies and while humanity began picking ourselves back up our former enemies descended into civil wars. Things are murkier now as uncertain diplomacy takes centre stage, joint race research ops begin, terrorism threats become more prevalent, and a lot of actions and motivations are being driven for some by lingering religious devotion.
And shining a light on this and saying “these are the repercussions of of this war” and actually showing the change in status quo could be really impactful, nuanced and interesting.
And that’s the thing with the flood. They’re the antithesis of that.
They’re a return to status quo.
A big bad apocalyptic force of nature with no more nuance than a desire to consume all life.
Well it does kinda seem the banished is going to retake the covenants place in all the chaos
For enemy faction variety? We've had only two enemy factions in the past two main games.
Only they won't be religious.
We've only had 2 enemy factions in every main game.
he has a point
aside from halo 2
that game had 5 enemy factions alone
In terms of gameplay variety it was still essentially two, though.
Er, three I suppose. Forgot about the Aggressor and Enforcer Sentinels.
CE: Covenant, Flood and Sentinels. 2: Covenant, Heretics, Sentinels, Flood, Covenant Loyalists (and Separatists for one occasion). 3: Covenant Loyalists, Flood, and Sentinels.
Looking back at Broken Circle, anyone else besides wish that it could've been longer?
So like does that H-7 cortana prototype from the legendary reach data pads still just exist out there in slipspace?
That’s all we’ve had in every Halo game
Sentinels do not count as a faction
Half the time they’re non-hostile of not outright non-combative and then when they are it’s like a level and a half of plasma pistol shooting gallery
Halo 4 had sentinels
How does the arbiter know that the councilors were killed by the brutes at the end of uprising? I can’t actually seem to find any place in the mission where he supposedly learns this. How does he also then realize the true purpose of the Halo rings? Right before this, he was dismissive as hell towards the Gravemind and Chief saying that Halo would kill everyone.
Spark literally tells him how the rings work right before the fight with Tartar
Well yes, but he somehow knows how they work beforehand, which is why he’s confident guilty spark will tell Tartarus that Halo will kill everyone.
The cinematic at the end of uprising is what I’m talking about
Arbiter firstly tells Rtas that the councilors were murdered by the brutes (idk how he knows this). Then, after recalling the Gravemind saying there’s time to stop the Halo ring from firing, says he has to get inside that building (presumably to stop the ring from firing because he knows it will kill everyone).
Rtas literally just rolls up in a wraith and tells him
Wdym? He tells Rtas all of this, not the other way around
Rtas: By the rings! Arbiter?! The councilors are they...
Thel: Murdered. By the brutes.
Huh
So you are right
Halo 2 10 month development moment
Or he’s just spit balling since Tartar Sauce tried to kill him
Honestly how do either of these characters know a civil war broke out on high charity.
Well that can make some sense because during uprising, you see the brutes try to kill you and your elite buddies.
We can assume same thing for Rtas in his wraith.
i mean you're walking with elite buddies the whole time, any one of them could've mentioned it to arbiter
Well they’re probably just as unlikely to have actually witnessed the brutes killing the councilors, considering that happened at High Charity and this mission is still on the ring, and even less likely to know the true purpose of Halo
And if it were the case anyways, it should’ve been included in the mission but it isn’t
As far as canon is concerned, that didn’t happen
also I think it's not like he learned the purpose of the halos in that mission, I think he just lost faith in the covenant meaning he accepted what 343 spark said
Well he didn’t even know what 343 would say that’s the thing
he's talked to 343 before, think of the oracle for example
Guilty spark never really revealed anything in any of the missions prior
also the gravemind told him the same thing 343 tried to tell him in The Oracle, so that would've reinforced it
Gravemind puppeting penitent tangent is the closest
But again, he’s fully dismissive of everything presented and that’s even after tartarus tried to kill him and basically said he’s going to kill all the elites
Afaik he doesn’t learn anything new about the covenant afterwards
So I’m not sure why he would “lose faith” afterwards
You’d think if anything, he’d be most angry and vengeful right after Tartarus tried to kill him
Also Arbiter probably wouldn’t really know what penitent tangent means by containment
That line only makes sense to chief after the events of Halo ce
343 tried to say the halo's were weapons at the end of The Oracle, because he was knocked out by brutus he couldn't finish his sentence leaving it up to interpretation, but then the grave mind said the same thing which would've made it a lot clearer that that's what they were saying. Plus he would've been dismissive to 343 at the time but since he saw brutes killing elites he probably would've realised "oh, the covenants bad".
Also he might not have realised right when tartarus tries to kill him that it was full on genocide against elites, Arbiter was very hated + a security risk to the covenant and a personal hit would've made sense. Yes tartarus says "you'll die like the rest of your species" but that could've been just another insult from tartarus, because that wouldn't be at all surprising. Not to mention he just probably wouldn't have come to his senses the moment it happened, but rather later, like in the mission.
At the end of Oracle, all guilty spark tried to say is that calling him an “oracle” is innacurate
But if he really does have this revelation later, why isn’t it more clearly depicted? It seems more like we go directly from Arbiter still believing in the Great Journey in the Gravemind cinematic to him suddenly flipping at the end of Uprising.
I mean we can speculate a ton, but I don’t think anything you pointed at is a canonical reason why he changed
Maybe gravemind secretly brainwashed him when he teleported him
Maybe arbiter had amnesia up until this point but knew all along Halo’s true purpose
Maybe during his torture scene, he saw a grunt show him proof that the Great Journey is a lie
I'll lay this out quickly because i gtg
- Everyone around him not in the covenant (heretic, gravemind, master chief) is calling it a weapon. I was pretty sure 343 did too but i might have that wrong.
- Arbiter sees brutes killing his species and loses faith that the covenant is right
- Now that he's not blindly following the covenant, he realises there's probably truth to everything else around him saying it's a weapon
Yeah idk, it’s definitely not expressed concretely in any of the missions if that’s the case. Maybe though
among the list of other maybe explanations
you're really trying to overcomplicate it imo
edit: that wasn't meant to be rude or anything btw, sorry if it came across that way
Well there’s really no clear reason I think, it’s hard to really say what caused it. Probably bungie had to cut a level that explained all of this and we’re left without it
Nah dw I didn’t take it that way
the covey on 04 was thel's fleet pursuing the PoA from reach
btw
what happens at the end of halo 5? I was never able to complete ir
what level did u end on?
3 rd to last
Have any of you seen the new article?
no
?
Oh well anyways it includes a logo that says Sandwolves
Underneath it it also says in latin We can, We want, We must.
blue team gets rescued by osiris and brout to halsey on sanhelios
in short
just play trough on easy
its not very hard
can I dm you rq
sure
I think the only difficulty I played 5 on was normal
Because I didnt know what to expect from the game. So I went with default
what if the mystery space ship that crashed on 04 was one of the ships carrying the precurser dust stuff
Shhhhhhh. keep that for later. Its good you mentioned it, but keep it for later. Would be much better forl ater.
what?
you mean that crashed unsc ship in infinite?
A late response, but a dying Elite told him about it at the start of Uprising.
do u kno something we dont?
nonono
what im saying is keep that for later
might me helpful for other theories
but We can, We want, We must.
Why would that matter?
didnt some coveys figure out the true purpose
Pursuing the pillar of autumn? I don’t think so
Unless this is like some really specific book retcon I’m unaware of
The Heretics we fight in Arby's first two missions learnt of Halo's true purpose when they found Spark
Those Heretics were once part of Arby's fleet
And they're completely forgotten about afterwards.
Eh not completely, one of the heretics killed by Thel, his brother was given a position in the SOS as a way of reparation
Do I need to have this discussion with you again?
Oh hell, I forgot about him.
In-person, if you want.
whats the deal with glassing? why would the covies do that? seems like a waste of perfectly good resources that can be grown on the glassed place
They don't tend to glass the whole planet
And even then, they've got thousands of systems and habitats under their control already, so I'm guessing a few more previously occupied by humans wouldn't matter too much
I still miss it when the entire world was glassed in old lore
I wonder if plasma torpedoes damaged Zeta Halo. Is that why the Prophet in The Flood barred the usage of plasma torpedoes around Halo?
Alpha Halo was the very first time the Covenant saw a Halo, so...probably not.
That Prophet may have just been paranoid.
That paranoia costed him a few ships to a lone human ship
I don’t think Plasma torpedoes can do that much damage
Def not, but remember, this is a HOLY RELIC. Even singing the paint is probably enough to make you branded a heretic
The whole reason they didn’t obliterate the Pillar of Autumn in Halo CE at the beginning of the game was because the prophets ordered no missiles to be fired at it in fear of the missiles hitting the ring.
What if cortana is master chief
Ok question for the lore nerds: Have the covenant met the flood before the battle of installation 04? I mean, besides halo wars, is there any other piece of media that has that mentioned anywhere?
@coarse vault yes its implied the Covenant have come across the flood multiple times throughout their history
I got a question me and my friends were doing halo 3 the other day and I never thought about this but how does chief survive when the halo ring activates?
He was in slipspace before the pulse reached him
How do the skulls come into halo lore wise
They don't
Not all Easter eggs are canon
Ok just wondering
Is there a reason you've posted that link with no context?
It's cannon that he's still knocking on the door
It's an easter egg, not a canon thing
Yeah he's just a RvB reference
I wonder if SPARTAN-Vs will be people brought back from the dead.
That's pretty out there.
Pretty random too
Unless they're elderly people
"on the blood of our fathers, on the blood of our sons."
I don't think reviving dead people would be a very effective method for creating supersoldiers.
I highly doubt that a hypothetical Spartan-V program will be zombie super soldiers. It'd more likely be similar to the S-IV program but with more effective augments for those recruited into it. Plus, I don't think having undead Spartans would sit too well with Spartans that are currently alive
Well, we know Cortana is going to be in the game, it'd be weird if she wasn't the other major enemy of the game, given her whole thing of trying to take over the galaxy from Halo 5
Do you think towed Howitzers are still used by the UNSC?
No
Do you ever actually think about what you say or does it just flow out onto your keyboard normally?
Play nice
Man wants to say something let the man say something
If he wants to ask if Masterchief is an anime girl under his helmet let him ask lmao
I think that’s a legitimate question to ask someone after you get as many weird fringe case scenario takes and pedantic questions like “will the banished be referred to as covenant in the game files?” and “has 343 said anything about dark areas in Infinite?” Like it is genuinely a point of curiosity now.
Are spartans able to dive in deep water?
They can go underwater ops yes
There are even specialized MJOLNIR suits for aquatic ops
SPARTAN-Vs?
You mean a new name for ODSTs?
(It's a joke relating to SPARTAN-IVs just being a super ODST)
Tread carefully, bro. That's all I'm gonna say.
You too
So
All of S-IVs got gen 3 now
Must have got it from somewhere
Or can the infinity build the suits
We’ll find out
You know how Lasky, Orenski and Sullivan were like the only surviving cadets at Corbulo? Isn't there a possibility that there could be more cadets who made it out alive before the space elevator got blown up into smithereens?
Whoever made it fully up would still be on blow-up-able ships
Sure, additional survivors could always be retconned in
but what do you mean blow-up-able ships? I'm under the impression that any possible surviving cadets would be transported onto UNSC warships? And similarly to what chimera said, additional survivors could always be retconned in since we don't really know the exact population size of Corbulo as well as its body count for casualties.
but what do you mean blow-up-able ships? I'm under the impression that any possible surviving cadets would be transported onto UNSC warships?
As in, UNSC ships can be fairly easily destroyed by Covenant ones. So it wouldn't really matter if people make it to the top of the elevator before it blows. And if Lasky and friends were told they were the only survivors, then Blue Team must have the knowledge that any ships in orbit were destroyed.
But yes, it can be retconned. Though it would be odd to do so.
what about need-to-know basis?
No real point to bring back those cadets
I was merely suggesting.
Eh maybe, but then 343 would have to give a reason for their existence
You think they would put shields onto SE? They are very tall and seem pretty vulnerable
Idk, I feel like it would make sense for the UNSC army at the very least to still be using towed artillery
The main advantage to towed artillery is that it’s cheap, easy to produce, and easy to train crews for.
Considering the UNSC Army is used more defensively too it definitely makes sense that they would still be using towed artillery
No point in that when the Covenant can easily destroy it.
I mean not really considering they have things like the M71, the Onager, and the missile launcher on that one mission on reach.
You can also still be mobile with towed artillery
Shoot and scoot maneuvers are still practiced with them
They still likely have better things to use
Question: if a space elevator gets shot right, but the load is near the ships that pick them up, do the occupants still die?
Well if they are fast enough to get to the ships then they can flu off
But if not they probably fall to their deaths
but I always wanted to see how a space elevator in action looks like in space
Or if it gets shot down, wouldn't the occupants be exposed to zero gravity or the harsh conditions in space? I mean it's called a space elevator for a reason.
Only if the elevator box is breached
You can do that with self propelled arty, like the M109 Paladin the US Army uses.
What's the difference between Spartan 2 and Spartan 3?
A spartan 2's augmentation procedure is more invasive and painful
S-IIs were kidnapped as children by the Office of Naval Intelligence, trained to crush human rebellions
the death rate in S-ll augmentation programs are quite high, whereas there is virtually no deaths in an S-III augmentation program.
S-IIIs were made to be sent on suicide missions to slow the Covenant down
and ONI took advantage of the fact that they were war orphans and had a grudge towards the Covies to recruit them
S-IIIs weren't created by Halsey, but by that contemptible guy who's name I forget all the time.
S-IIs also got GEN 1 MJOLNIR armor, S-IIIs were given SPI armor
with the exception of some S-IIIs who assigned to special teams like Noble Team from Halo: Reach
and you're thinking of Colonel Ackerson, The Flash
Yes that's the one I was referring to.
Also there were a lot more S-IIIs than S-IIs
the decapitated*
I was responding to The Flash, my guy. Or were you making a funny?
making a funny
got it
That contemptible colonel (no alliteration intended) tried to get John-117 killed during a training exercise. I don't know who's worse, Ackerson or Del Rio.
Ackerson
Del Rio is overcautious
and it's also why he was given command of Infinity, he had a track record of getting his ships home in one piece during the war
Granted he was a jerk to John, he left the man behind, and he acted in a manner that I hated seeing in officers when I was on active duty, but he still heavily outranks the Chief and Infinity was his boat so it's still his call to make.
Ackerson just hated Halsey and her Spartans
and he's just really scummy in almost all of the media he was in except when he died
ah I see. Noted
Do people honestly think that a Marine can win against an Elite in pure hand to hand?
Because the only outcome of that fight would be the marine being:
A. Ragdolled across the room
B. Incapacitated in one hit
C. Literally ripped apart.
Depending on the Elites mood.
johnson can win in a 1v1
Yes, which is what he did
They would have to outsmart the Elite if they were in a 1v1 scenario
They wouldn't win at all in pure hand to hand @opal birch
and the elite has no arms
Otherwise by this logic, they would be able to take SPARTANS in hand to hand
Forge beat an Arbiter
And we all know how that went for the 4 ODSTs when John was 14.
Not in a fair fight, only by surprise with a knife.
Otherwise there no reason Marines should engage in hand to hand with Elites
Even then that was only because Ripa held him up for so long. We're talking zero weapons here.
i mean its really because ripa had an ego
You don't fight fair in a fight for survival
and john was smart
In which case, the Elite tears, especially if he has a combat harness.
That too.
Ripa has a higher ego compared to most Sangheili iirc.
On average, even Minors can take on squads of them.
If they play their cards right. Majors and up most definitely.
idk i think chips dubbo can 1v1 a scarab
Course he can
But the Elite will have an even greater advantage if he has his combat harness on
idk
That's basically akin to pitting an unaugmented marine against a SPARTAN-II in hand to hand.
i think a random marine can take on a silent shadow member
actually in war you stack any advantage you can against an enemy
Yes, but this isn't one of those fights.
In a pure hand to hand battle, marine stands zero chance
fighting fair is for chumps
No matter how unfair he fights, he still only has his hands.
His punches will tickle the Elite at best.
idk i think a grunt can take on master chief in a 1v1
I'm saying a Marine should avoid hand to hand period. If they're that close, that's the worse case scenario.
you guys underestimate marines
Pretty much. Even armed though, snipers are the only ones beating an Elite Minor.
One hit from a plasma rifle and they're dead.
Elites are rare sights for marines anyway, so I wouldn't blame them.
Brutes too.
I'm not underestimating them, if you can engage an enemy from a distance, you do it.
Also, who says the elite won't have the drop on them with a beam rifle either?
imagine using a beam rifle
just use a brute shot
Elites really aren't all that rare to Marines.
not really that rare
Literally all forces in a combat situation try to do this as much as possible already.
Most of the time though, Elites just demolish them.
You have guns, why would you be trying to punch something as anything more than an absolutely last ditch resort.
Unless the Marines have a ridiculous numbers advantage, even then there is no guarantee.
Also if an Elite has a sniper, it's not all that different than trying to flush out a human sniper
Which isn't exactly easy.
I know that
And trust me, it would be a lot different with an Elite, especially the Zealot types.
Flashbacks to Reach zealots on Legendary
but it's not like it wasn't a common occurrence in a war that lasted 27 years
also gameplay doesn't reflect how the weapons perform canonically, the MA5s actually perform better outside of the games
Theory, Star Wars is set in the Halo universe, just before the Human-Forerunner war. Let me explain. So what powers the halo rings? I’m saying midichlorians, becouse it also explains why people don’t immediately die to the gravity (if you do the math with rings gravity, you would die. Or at least have problems with guns). That also explains why the force isn’t around any more. We also know what the rings are made of (Beskar) and we know from Star Wars that they have planet destroying machines, why not life destroying machines?
It goes off game theory’s video
Are you saying that the Halo rings' gravity is too high?
Yeessss? Something like that? I don’t remember
Is he basing it off of just the games or something?
Yes
If we went strictly off of the games the AR would be utter poop
Game Theory frequently has no idea what he's talking about
when they actually can kill stuff
And Game Theory exists as entertainment not anything completely serious
Also there's the whole "A Long Time Ago in a Galaxy Far Away," Star Wars is set in a different galaxy
I remember he apologized to the Hollowknight community over his video on that.
That was fun
Good lord please no.
It would be an interesting crossover
But they're better kept as separate universes.
Garfield Andrew Garfield
Star Wars is more so Science Fantasy, Halo is hard sci fi.
I see it now Waffle
So their themes don't add up
And it was so bafflingly stupid and wrong that the entire community called him out and bombed his video. Especially since Hollownight is one of those games that already had a massive section of the community dedicated to the lore.
Secondly, the rings would not be made out of Beskar. That is too tedious to mass produce.
Not to mention that no known material in Halo can take a full Energy Sword swing, nevermind taking literal hours to cut through with an energy sword.
Energy Swords vs other materials basically have the same relationship lightsabers did pre-ROTS. Nothing can stop it from cutting through anything it wants.
Halo isn't hard sci-fi like the Expanse, and it definitely dabbled with some fantasy with the Forerunners lore.
also were does lovecraftian stuff fall on the sci-fi/fantasy meter?
I know gameplay doesn't reflect it accurately. The legendary part was a joke
got it
fantasy
sci-fi tends to be futuristic where as lovecrafts work was made in the 1900s
yeah I figured
Lovecraft can fall wherever the hell it wants to since it’s by definition detached from reality.
Would HiddenXperia fit that definition then Waffle?
depends on your definition of hiddenxperia
Detached from reality? Yes.
He's a little too focused on all things "iconic" and the Flood
flood is cool
But yeah unknowable horrors from beyond the veil of reality as we know it is kind of a concept that can fit into sci-fi or fantasy in equal measures. As well as contemporary fiction.
but i think by iconic he means old guns
since they looks cool, sound great, and play well
except for the needler
oh and the plasma repeater, needle rifle, and focus beam
he overuses the word iconic
plasma repeater more like plasma shiteater
i mean its his catchphrase
Hang on i wasnt censored?
whats the last video he said iconic in?
The issue is that he makes iconography seem like the largest merit or reasoning for something to exist.
yeah to the point that it's kinda meaningless
I checked in reach MCC's stats at least
and it literally does only slightly more damage than the AR
if at all
true, i do get annoyed when he does that, but he can be correct some times
The flood should stay gone because narratively they don’t have anything else to add to Halo’s universe other than to force a re-tread of ground already covered and it would serve no purpose than to throw more interesting and nuanced story paths under the bus for plucking at people’s nostalgia. Xperia by comparison thinks the flood should be back off of no other merit than i c o n i c
could be cool to get scary horror moments with the flood
Honestly. The ark in halo 3 should have wiped them out completely, the flood can't come back from nothing.
We got like 2 in the entire classic series
They mostly can start up again due to plot device ship A or plot device infection form/spore B somehow making it beyond a containment area.
yeah but im talking night time flood
without the teams knowing.
with like a flashlight for brightness
Hardly seems like a staple of them. The iconic flood experience I remember is just getting butt rushed en masse and then detonated by imbalanced melee swings.
shoots shotgun and all infection forms die
aint that hard
I wouldn't call a lot of Halo's weapons iconic. The AR, BR, Needler, the magnum, and maybe a few other weapons could be called iconic because they have a recognizable silhouette that people in general, not just Halo fans, can identify.
Tbh i feel bad for the infection forms @versed helm
you can literally beat up a flood form in halo 3
without combat forms, they just get popped 24/7
what about a spartan laser?
i feel even worse for the carrier forms, their only form of movement is waddling towards someone with the speed and intensity of a drunk snail
shotgun, sniper, dmr, br, ar, needler, plasma rifle, magnum, rocket launcher, and plasma pistol are all iconic weapons if you will
maybe a few more you can add on
I doubt many folks outside of the halo community will identify the weapon
but some of the weapons are defo no iconic
such as the needle rifle.
It's not like a lightsaber, where pretty much everyone, even people who don't watch star wars can ID it.
Or storm rifle (screw that thing, give me back my plasma rifle)
needle rifle, focus beam, and plasma repeater are kind of hard to guess
Energy Sword I would say is iconic.
I mean functionality wise, and design wise, it is literally a lightsaber barring shape
most people know about the energy sword and gravity hammer
that would be one
They could make a flood game kinda like alien isolation type of game or dead space
The Flood wouldn't work well in an Alien Isolation style horror game since the Flood doesn't slowly stalk prey like the Xenomorph
A flood horror game really just boils down to a Left 4 Dead style experience.
And it's only really horror in the sense that you might start to panic when you start to get overwhelmed.
Yeah, but isolation style simply wouldn't work
A single combat form? Anyone could take one of those out with a Gun.
The Flood Forms only work due to their numbers, a single combat form by itself can't do squat against any Marine squad.
Do the covenant ever charge up their energy swords?
Who’s older? Lasky or Masterchief?
one hundred percent MC
Lasky is in basic training when he gets rescued by Chief when he was in Mjlonr mk 5
Wasn’t chief like a teenager when he saved Lasky and the other cadets?
but chief is like 60 in Halo 4 i think

Lasky August 15, 2510
Chief March 7, 2511
So Lasky is older than chief? That would mean that chief was like 15 when he saved Lasky
He was in Mark IV, not Mark V
no he is younger because of cyro sleep
he was in cyro sleep for 3 weeks, and i believe 5-8 years however long the transition was from halo 3 to halo 4
not counting any other cyro sleeps we did not see for him
so yes by 2552 he is 67+ meaning that in halo infinite he is 75+...however in reality i believe he is more like 40 to 50
if you want to really reach, at youngest you could put him at 38
no, i just know alot about cyro sleep
due to halo wars and halo wars 2
bascially it makes your vitals cease slowing your age, or stopping you from aging
smh
What? He never said that
and then got confused with a comment i was reading to make sure cyro sleep didn't age you
but this guy was wrong
yeah ik it wasn't him
cryo sleep slows the cellular activity down to practically zero
That guy.
i can see
Hair and nails can still grow
im dumb
The numbers are there... do the math.
49
gold star

then when you take cryo into account, his biological age would be even younger
John is definitely younger though, since he entered cryo sleep on several occasions.
man so does that mean in reality he is only like 30 to 40?
yeah, but most of those stints were pretty short
Its hard to calculate
i'd say total he spent less than 7 years in cryo
You got halo 3-4 which is easy to say. And the rest is hard to add up
I would argue that four years is quite the significant pause.
greater than 5, less than 7
well i believe the escape from reach is 3 weeks
Did John enter cryo sleep before the collapse of Reach?
john participated in the Fall of Reach
if you want to consider when the pillar of autumn leaves reach before the collapse of reach
then yes i suppose
You can definitely determine that I have not read the Fall of Reach.
nor have i
but fall of reach is also an animated series
It’s called the fall of reach. Not the collapse of reach.
i was thinking collapse of reach to be realistically when noble 6 is doing lone wolf
I’m halo reach the marines and ODST have their blood type on their shoulder.
Most of the soldiers seen in reach were UNSC army
Medical info on the shoulder pauldron has been a thing for ODSTs since... the Landfall live-action stuff.
If not even before then.
No pretty sure Landfall showed it first
Is it true that Arbiter was there in the cut scene when Noble Six was killed?
No
Nope. Whoever spread that has no idea about anything
That was just a random field marshal
By the time of the fall of reach, Thel was a shipmaster
He wouldn’t have been on the ground
Oh ok
Not to mention...
The Pillar of Autumn had left by that point. Thel would have already been chasing it
That makes sense
So John being in cryo is similar to Captain America being frozen in ice but much cooler since he’s actually in a spacecraft freezer?
Yes
I feel that there would be more survivors during the battle of circinius IV. I mean there wouldn’t be only one wagon on the space elevator. It wouldn’t make sense to use only one wagon to evacuate cadets. And I’m pretty sure I saw two wagons being used. One that was already on the way up way before the covenant spacecrafts showed up and shot the tether and the other one being the one that was destroyed when the tether was blown up
Is it true that Arbiter was there in the cut scene when Noble Six was killed?
I remember the first time I read that whole theory about Arbiters being left-handed so the Field Marshal must've been the Arbiter.
That was a weird experience.
As if other elites couldn’t have been left-handed 🙄. I hate theories sometimes lol.
It's even weirder than the theory that the explanation for the new Covenant weapons is that we're fighting the Covenant Army and that the Covenant we fight in other games is the Covenant Navy. 🤨
hopefully one day, flash cloning will be perfected
Ehh. From a story perspective I kinda hope it doesn't get perfected.
At least not any time soon.
How so
perfected in the sense of medical procedures for wounded unsc forces.
The problem with flash cloning is the full cloned which are illegal
And it wouldn't really help the unsc's image if they use a flashed cloned slave army
Image isn’t an issue they have
Also sending clone slaves to war would definitely be worse for it
what like clone troopers?
perfected in the sense of medical procedures for wounded unsc forces.
...Aren't those already a thing? Like Halsey replaced some of Kelly's(?) organs with flash-cloned replacements in some kind of fast-growth vat thing?
Considering Halo 5 introduces armor restraints, why hasn’t the Covenant ever tried inventing them? I feel like they probably have more of a reason to develop and use them.
Maybe they have
what do you mean armour restraints?
A device that locks up armor
oh, that one. The round circle thing that chief used against locke.
Yeah
Armor lock hockey pucks
I don’t think it’s ever been mentioned beyond spartans using it against other spartans
Well in the covenant army there are other soldiers who are of comparable strength while for the unsc
Its just Spartans
I'm pretty sure that these armour lock toys were used to apprehend spartans that go awol.
lockey pucks
heh heh, I see what you did there
Well considering Chief and others can cause so much damage and disruption, I’d say it would be pretty useful
Only really useful if you want to nonlethally apprehend an armored person
Why? It seems like Mjolnir armor can take quite a few hits of plasma
Meanwhile this hockey puck just stops them right then and there
Well even chief is using mark 6
I’m just gonna explain it away by saying that Covenant couldn’t figure it out because they don’t have access to the designs of the armor, while the unsc does
Afaik anyways
And even if they had spartan armor somehow, they’d probably not try to reverse engineer it just from a religious standpoint
Presumably this armor restraint would also stop spartan 2s
I mean otherwise it’d be kinda meh against chief
They nearly got spartan armor design codes before either gray or black team destroyed it
Alright cool so my head canon is still consistent then
i wonder what happened to April Orenski after the events of Forward Unto Dawn. I know that Sullivan got a job in ONI, and Lasky became commander, later captain of the the Infinity
I’m pretty sure the spartan armor have a fail safe protocol just in case it fell into covenant hands
Because I remember chief activated a fallen spartan armor fail safe protocol to go nuclear in the first strike novel
Mjolnir has a self destruct function
Why we never saw it during noble team deaths is unknown
That’s true
I mean carter and Jorge went down with the ship they were on
Kat armor was mostly reused or melted down to make new armor
Carter may have died but his armor is tough.
That’s also true
Best bet carter active the self destruct function right before or when he’s close to the scarab
Unlikely. Mjolnir is powered by a nuclear reactor. That detonation would be much bigger than what we saw
So do Elite’s combat harnesses enhance their strength, like is it similar to how Mjolnir enhances the strength of a Spartan?
The Halo Encyclopedia said it does, but the Encyclopedia is the Encyclopedia, and is the only place that was ever mentioned, so who knows if it is still canon.
Part of me somewhat doubts it, as nothing really hints to thst
How did halsey survive reach again? I kinda forgot.
Something to do with Jun
I'm still wondering how Miranda and Johnson got back to Earth with Thel (without getting mistaken for Covenant).
Hid underneath Castle Base until members of the current Spartan II team known as Red Team (They didn't know if Red Team from Halo Wars 2 were still alive at the time, and likely still don't) arrived and escorted her into the mines beneath the base. After finding a Forerunner crystal and fighting Covenant, they were extracted by Chief, Grace-093, Li-008 and survivors of the Pillar of Autumn's crew and escaped Reach on the Ascendant Justice
Was that after the events of Combat Evolved?
Yes.
I thought reach got glassed and everyone knows what happens when planets get glassed.
Just partially
Reach wasn't glassed within a single day
The planet's surface is toxic after glassing right?
And even on glassed worlds, there were pockets of survivors anyway. Just look at Tanaka's backstory
but how do people even survive glassing? I mean doesn't it get toxic?
You do realise that they're not standing in the glassing beam, right?
yes. I meant after the whole glassing thing, isn't it toxic still?
given that the ruins are uninhabitable?
He meant after that
How many CSO-class supercarriers would the Covenant have had during their peak?
a lot
No idea.
How many humans could fit into a CSO?
A lot
I still wonder what became of the Solemn Penance after it slipspaced from Earth
Likely millions
A CSO is larger than the size of Manhattan island, so probably around that population range
I wonder if NYC ever got hit during the Battle of Earth
It was
The fleet of sacred consecration hit NYC
Or was at least in the vicinity of it
Wasn't that Cleveland?
The Covenant hit many places on Earth
It went to Installation 05, as seen in Halo 2
I know that, but after that
Since the United States no longer exists in the Halo universe, what event could've caused it to fall apart?
Unknown
I bet that the Solemn Penance was destroyed during the Great Schism
Do composers work on humans only?
or can they also work on any organic beings?
because couldn't the forerunners just use the composers on the flood to get rid of them?
well not as a long term fix, but as a way to reduce their numbers?
why not? it's not like they can infect anything if they get digitised
I think I’ll say you’re not quite right
do tell.
when the composer composes it transfers consciousness to AI so it would make things worse
Corruption persists
I don't understand what you mean but alright. but a flood form as an ai can't do nothing can it? Aren't flood forms a bunch mindless creatures? but i wonder what'll be like if a gravemind was composed.
it would have access to their knowledge base so it would be a big deal when the enemy knows your moves before you do
No the flood aren’t mindless creatures
And if the flood is in a more advanced stage. Worse
and no the flood acts as one mind so their not dumb their really smart because the flood is actually the based off the beings that were the first ones with the mantle of responsibility so their really smart
then why does it seem that the flood infectors only know how to be parasites?
because for them to survive they need to continuously consume that and they kind of have a grudge against all races if you want to learn more about the lore you should look up this youtuber on youtube goes by hidden experia
well i guess using napalm is out of the question then.
they should add flamers to halo that would be fun actually
yeah, agreed
As witnessed on Installation 07, Flood victims subjected to Composer processing were able to retain their individuality,[11] but the Flood would continue to rot and deform their physical bodies, the infection having survived the destruction of the original biological body and then resumed in the new one. The Forerunners attempted to slow down this process by wrapping the afflicted individuals' bodies in a form of supportive harness flowing with energy,[12] but the victims would still continue to deform beyond recognition and eventually expire or succumb to the Flood. Similarly, when the Gravemind used corrupted, Composer-processed essences imprinted on living human bodies as messengers to the Librarian in her final moments on Earth, the humans' bodies would rapidly decay and soon die.[13]
You could compose flood forms but well the victim is still screwed
I mean what you store it in Composer's Abysss? Victim is still screwed
Cos now it suffers there like any other composed victim
Composing my destroy the flood body but well if ur trying to save the victim, forget it
well i wasn't trying to save the victim
flame throwers?
@nocturne owl people ether hide underground or moved to a part of reach that was already glassed
Because it would take the covenant a lot time and resources to glass an entire planet
No they aren’t mindless creatures, in their most advanced stage of evolution they can tell the laws of the universe to go kill itself
heyyyyyyyyyyyc gamersss
they did in halo ce multiplayer didnt they?
halo 2 does not have a flamethrower
k
1 and 3 are the only ones that do iirc
also on mcc
nani tell me where i must....RIP AND TEAR....erm i mean.... SCORCH AND BURN
pov: grunt
is dumb, funny and weak, holds heavy plasma cannons both useless and also the backbone of the entire covenant army
pov:crawler
small, dies fast to a bolt shot, fast, weak, easiest part of halo 5 campaign, smart, yet it is the one thing to kill you in the halo five campaign
is dumb, funny and weak
Unggoy will eat humans if given the opportunity.
Flamethrowers have already been in halo CE and 3, I’d like to see em come back though
Didn’t the covenant wipe out the survivors of a colony by releasing starving Jackals and Grunts to eat the survivors alive
useless and also the backbone of the entire covenant army
Never mind that they staged a rebellion that dragged on long enough to necessitate the appointment of an Arbiter and a light glassing of Balaho
Didn’t the covenant wipe out the survivors of a colony by releasing starving Jackals and Grunts to eat the survivors alive
I'm assuming we're both thinking of what happened with Buck's home world of Draco III. Which is subject to a bit of Buck not necessarily the most reliable narrator, but, the idea is there.
Yea
Honestly I could believe it, it would also bring a whole new side of cruelty of the Covenant towards Humanity
Does the UEG have an equivalent to the Second Amendment?
To be fair Grunts aren’t necessarily dumb, they were the first to figure out English and built their own mech.
Grunts and Jackals shouldn’t be scoffed at, for your regular marine a Jackal was more than a match and Marines would be overwhelmed by Grunts.
Wut, no
Every UEG citizen has the right to own fire arms tho
Also according to Halopedia Masterchief and Linda both witnessed the event
Via satellite footage
Hm, alright.
i don't recall any specific regulation on that zeus
Draco III
Buck's homeworld. It was also later recolonized, and insurectionists gave trouble.
I really liked the part where the insurectionists from out of world are like, "the unsc are taking over our worlds!" and buck is like "this is MY world, get off it!"
Lmao
The UNSC really should've encouraged citizens to take up arms to defend themselves.
That sounds like an easy way to accumulate more civilian casualties than necessary.
Wait, how?
Also more weapons to the insurrection
Encouraging people who are largely gonna have minimal formal training using basically handicapped guns to fight off an invading alien force that could just as easily burn them to smithereens from orbit...
I'm just thinking that's not a great plan.
At infinite, are there any prophets still alive?
There's still some amount alive, yes.
ikr
well everyone knows yap yap is best
Most of the San shyuum population is 99% extinct
There are implied to be thousands still alive. That's enough to come back
Isn’t San shyuum reproduction really complicated?
Or at least takes a while to create a new one
Only because they have to be careful about preserving biodiversity with their limited genepool
How common are Liches in Covenant remnants?
A Banished Prophet would be ironic
Fairly common, it seems. Jul had several at his disposal during the Requiem campaign and after, and the Banished use them during base construction on the Ark. The Swords of Sanghelios use them fairly often to, especially as they're needed to transport T-57 Phantoms outside of planetary atmosphere, the T-57 model sacrificing that feature for ease of manufacturing.
I don't recall that it was complicated, but their limited population on High Charity meant they had to keep very strict records on who was mating with who, who was allowed to mate, etc.
The Roll of Celibates
Oh, suddenly got a new role, eh Toa?
Should we call him Tahu now?
lol
I love you got the reference
I remember playing the browser game back when it was being released
Loved that thing, though sadly didn't get to play it much. Still waiting on a bohrok-esque forerunner device
Is the mantle’s approach the largest ship on the forerunner navy?
No
Castellan battle stations are supposedly the size of our moon
The mantle’s approach is just the only ship that utilizes neural physics
@ocean ibex Castallean battle stations? Thats not a thing
As for the MA, it is not the largest forerunner vessel, but it is apparently the fastest and most powerful
Mb, I meant to say castellan
@ocean ibex amusing, have warfleet and didn't even know those were a thing, interesting
Does it have a picture of one?
Is Gen2 the same thing as Mark VII?
No
Nope no pics
Yes but also no
Mark VII is basically a test bed for emerging tech, if I remember correctly?
MJOLNIR is categorized by two systems.
Mark VII is difficult...
lol
Mark VII has been used as a test bed, but originally it was just the next iteration of Mjolnir after Mark VI
Mk. VII is the seventh iteration of the most "standard" MJOLNIR powered assault armor, which stretches across three generations
Mark VII is very interesting to say the least
What @unique rune said.
Man, trying to word that in a simple way feels like a headache
It really is.
Mark VII..."exists"
It's a big reason why I wish 343 had come up with something better for the Infinite armors.
That and yet another Mark VI armor is just boring...
Decimator had the shield shaping tech, if I recall correctly
". The most successful of these efforts is the suit's protean energy shield, which can be partially reshaped and sculpted."
Partially
Which I guess is what was proposed
Full shield shaping is mentioned not to be there
So one can probably gather that it has partial, for the gen 3
indeed
So what are we all talking about
What’s the newest halo generation?
They said there is Gen 3 already.
But it also said that Gen2 is the newest, which confuses me.
Gen3 is the newest Mjolnir type as of Halo Infinite
They said Gen 2 Mjolnir was the newest back when Halo 4 was the newest game. Now that we're at Infinite, Gen 3 is the newest
Ok.
Is there a Gen3 Scout?
Unknown as of now
L O R E
Interesting choice of the preferred layer to mould Mjolnir’s “mind over movement” having a piezoelectric effect. Nylund must have read stuff on the pineal gland, since that’s a naturally producing source of piezoelectricity
Halo Infinite will be on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S
Not sure what that has to do with the lore
Didn't need to tag me
My bad
Didn’t Palmer have GEN3 scout in SoR?
I don't think it's specified what armor variation she's wearing.
Would have to check.
Yeah, not specified.
He quickly signed off and turned to see Sarah Palmer leading two teams of her Spartan-IVs toward the Warthog. She was wearing her standard GEN3 kit, and there was no mistaking her for someone else. The red emblems stamped into her torso and forearm shells gave it away - as did the paired M6H Magnums she wore on her thigh mounts.
Right, but I'd still consider it to be unknown. Like it's probably Scout, but it's not explicitly spelled out so there's still a little wiggle room for it to not be. yes I know this sounds pedantic
But will Miller light up the last remaining targets?
btw, u pronounce his name like george
he got in trouble once whilst in training because sarg. Mendes said it wrong and he corrected him
spartan IIs had harsh training
also, "Jorge was transferred from the main Spartan-II contingent (under the operational command of Naval Special Weapons) to UNICOM's SPECWAR Group Three at an unknown point during the Human-Covenant War. His reassignment may have been facilitated under the guise of being too heavily wounded to continue active duty.[note 1] He had been assigned to NOBLE Team as of April 2552, when the unit participated in the Battle of Fumirole.[8] Thom-A293 was killed during this mission and his death would deeply affect the other members of the team, including Jorge.[9]"
So quick question, am I correct in saying that Mjolnir Gen 3 is lighter than previous generations? And if that is the case, source?
Don’t think so
Gen3 was designed to bring back the extra protection offered by gen1 and the advancements of GEN2
So is red team’s armor in halo wars 2 a prototype or a makeshift gen 3 then?
It’s gen 1 armor with some gen 2 enhancements
No, that's Gen 1 with Gen 2 parts slapped on. That doesn't make it Gen 3
And thanks for the answer Chimera
i dont think that anyone on the spirit of fire would know what gen3 would be given they have no means of contact to the rest of the unsc
What about Isabel?
I played halo wars 2 I’m just offering ideas and speculating here
if she knew then the spirit of fire would not be MIA
or she is controled by cortana
I thought hw2 was around the same time as infinite
Isabel is not associated with the Created
year or 2 before
Or around the same year
No
also i havent played hw2 yet so i only know the main storyline
i wonder if we're gonna run into the SoF in infinite
Probably not
i havent finished SoR but what if the SoF found the the portal on the ark that leads under castle base sometime when blue team and the Infinity were still on reach, and that was like on of the first levels
It was deactivated
You do realise that you kinda set yourself up for being spoilt, right?
Don’t you back talk me Horhay!!!!
With books in general, it's best to hold questions until the end.
I remember when reading Shdaows of Reach, there were moments that left me with some major questions, but a lot of those were answered over the course of the story.
but lets just say that the SoF found the portal and went through (probly not the ship it self) then blue team found them and told the Infinity. that would be cool
Yeah, that could be cool. It'd be interesting to see how Red Team and Blue Team react to one another.
and before you say it, i know it wouldent happen
I loved that moment in HW2 when Jerome says "It's good to know that John is still out there fighting" (paraphrased, but you get the point).
"Aight."
"Aight."
[handshake]
lol
when did he say that?(i havent played the game)
A bit after they found Isabel, during gameplay, I think?
Yeah, during the second level, "A New Enemy".
There's a small sequence when they talk about the first battle of the Ark in 2552.
Jerome-092: "Isabel, where did all this wreckage come from?"
Isabel: "There was a battle here near the end of the war. The Master Chief saved us all."
Jerome-092: "It's good to know John's still out there."
Originally that line was "It's good to know the Chief's still out there", but thankfully it was changed for the final game.
Indeed
tnks for the answer
It’s around the same as Gen 1
I’m surprised it didn’t carry much of Gen 2’s new tech, like homogenising the hydrostatic gel and metal crystal layers
It's important to note that GEN1's weight likely varied quite a bit given the different designs it went through, especially during the early Mark IV days. That said, Mark V was said to be a half-ton, or 1000 lbs or roughly 450 kg.
In Shadows of Reach, the GEN3 Mark VI the Chief wear is noted as being lighter despite it's appearance, weighing only 400 kg, or 880-ish lbs
@limpid meadow the suit itself weighs 400KG, plus chief would be 530KG
From when I read it. But then again, it’s inconsistent in all of Troy’s books
Silent Storm says his Mark IV itself is half a ton, then in Oblivion it’s said that the overall weight including the wearer is that much.
Gen 3 is then described as 400 Kilos in mass, then later the overall mass being half a ton once more (in spite of Reach’s gravity)
Sometimes it gets very specific by mentioning Fred in Centurion armor as “600 Kilograms”
I may be wrong, but I think the armor Chief wears in Silent Storm and Oblivion may be different armors. At the very least, I don't believe it's confirm they're the same armors. But again, I might be wrong.
Also, what do you mean "in spite of Reach's gravity"? If Mjolnir normally weigh 400 kg, it would be closer to 450 (half-ton) on Reach.
Suit+Wearer was described 450KG in Mass, the same was Mark V. On Reach, that’d be 486KG, which I’m assuming is an oversight by the writer
It was used as an analogy for walking on brittle terrain, so I doubt he would use the mass instead of it’s weight in that context
Earlier, the same suit itself massed 400KG, meaning that with the wearer inside and on Reach gravity, John would realistically weigh 572.4KG
If that’s the case, then his 300 meter fall would’ve delivered over 1.8 Megajoules
Half of what’s considered a potentially lethal impact in Mark V
I'm pretty sure the armour is supposed to be the same. The cover art seems to depict that. And with the timeline, what probably happened was, Silent storm armour -> forward unto dawn armour while the other was in repairs or upgrades -> back to silent storm armour while the other was in maintenance
@limpid meadow So that's what I think happened. Like, if you compare the cover arts, it's pretty much the same one.
It’s a shame he never used his camouflage panels in those books
What camouflage panels?
The ones he used in the comic series with that same armor
You mean like in SPI?
What seems to have inspired it, yeah. Troy never read those comics, so it was a little inconsistent
It was near-perfect in cloaking to human visibility, but Elites could see it easily
I also don’t get why Gen 3 doesn’t have retrorockets. Primary thrusters, okay, but the smaller ones are way too useful for their endeavours
Locke managed to slow what looked close to his terminal velocity to nearly zero in a matter of seconds when falling from the Guardian. If John kept them in SoR, he wouldn’t have needed to muscle through such an impact
Ah that part. Unless they were part of the prototype and a part of the gear that was taken away at the time or something maybe.
But no mention of is... annoying to say the least.
Mjolnir seems pretty inconsistent anyway. It’s a bit of a shame
There runs a slight problem of making the Spartans a little too down-to-earth in tech. John’s battles with the Prometheans seem a little less believable, now that he’s having such problems with Brutes
The final mission of Halo 4, he fights in one area, dozens Knights, alone — all which have incredibly potent abilities. Now himself and all of Blue Team struggle with a wing of ten Banshees to the degree their armor is heavily damaged
I guess Banshees are just.. insanely deadly now
Even Sentinels are no joke
I remember one taking sustained fire from two pistols and an SMG, and their focus beams can cut apart large stones and vaporise people..
Still. Any levitating force for the front lines is going to inevitably be more brittle than a ground unit — and as multiplayer shows, being airborne isn’t exactly a good idea for keeping a low profile
Sure, but we know the cover art isn't exactly 100% accurate. In Silent Storm, the armor was coated with a black stealth "paint", which isn't depicted on the cover.
I don’t even remember that
Yeah. So when it comes to Silent Storm and Oblivion (and thus Troy's works in general), I try not to take anything at face value.
Some of the details are a little unbelievable sometimes
You're not wrong
The thing that got me was Sangheili dying to 45C heat
Reptiles are naturally quite comfortable in high temperatures, and Sangheilios is hotter than Earth so it paints a strange picture
I mean, I’ve experienced that temp. It’s awful, and it’d definitely kill people.. Just probably not an Elite. Snakes enjoy that climate, for example
When did that happen?
Uh.. Near the end of Oblivion, Nizat’s forces started to drop in their march on the planet
I think they were tracking down Blue Team
I'll have to go back and re-read that section.
‘Lakosee turned to relay the order, and Nizat took the opportunity to appraise his unit. Between heat deaths and the enemy’s preemptive counterattack, he had already lost half his force. Judging by their slumped shoulders and unsteady posture, he would soon lose another quarter.
Distressingly, humans were even more vulnerable to heat than his Sangheili.
No prob
Clearly better than a human, but not by that much. Even humans can tolerate higher temperatures than that if they’re accustomed to it
Elites would certainly be well-adapted, given their homeworld and hardy nature
Under the right conditions for a period of time, they can survive, yeah.
And the 45 degrees was just the temperature at one point. We don't know how high it got.
Quick search online suggests that reptiles normally prefer temps of 70-80 F with temporary basking temps of 90-100 F
45 C is 113 F
I could see how prolonged exposure to 113 F temps could be bad for a dino
Yep. It hasn't been confirmed whether Sangheili are warm or cold-blooded, which could affect survivability.
They probably are, I just don't think it's ever been out-right stated.
Scaled with what humans are comfortable with, the disparity isn’t really that large to start killing people. That’s like a human dying in 90F
They probably are, I just don't think it's ever been out-right stated.
Yeh
Enough time and exposure, and it's not that unlikely.
Sure, but again — Elites are built differently than us. Their world is hotter atop of being reptiles anyway
Wim Hof is a dutch athlete who ran a half-marathon in the Namib desert, temperatures akin to what was described (40-50 degrees C)
I think he even had two beers after that, and dunked his feet in water. That’s all he needed for recovering lol
That's 1 guy who probably prepared for that. He didn't just start running out in the desert.
And again, the 45 degree temperature was just the temp at one point in the story. We don't know if that's as high as it got or if it got higher
Maybe.. But I do remember it being particularly exhausting at that point. It was also compared fairly to what the humans were experiencing
“Imagine the humans in this temp” after previous excerpts making it 45C for their experience
Petrov blanched, then looked down the bench in the direction they were coming from. A line of marines and prowler crew was strung out for half a kilometer behind them, carrying the wounded and dragging water tanks uphill, already staggering in the gravity and forty-five-degree-Celsius heat.
how hot is plasma in halo?
Hot
i've heard its hotter than the sun, so its confusing that chief doesn't just die when his gun overheats
Holy hell, Sanghelios gets to 96C! 45 should be a breeze
The temperature only comes up once in the story, and it's fairly early on.
The flame caused by a Seraph fighters’ plasma weapon have a temperature of approximately 3,000 degrees Celsius
how good is the air conditioning in spartan suits
Pretty good
how many zealots could go on a covenat cruiser?
A lot
it must be some biological stuff because halsey is standing on sanghelios without any armor
Well even Halsey somehow tolerates the heat of Sangheilios, plus the 1.37G.. and a Pelican crash
yeah i notice that now
thousands maybe? or more?
And being punched in the face by a Spartan III
A cruiser can fit almost 7000 troops in it, so...that many
ah
do i forget something
when did that happen
Kilo-5
never read it
The whole scene was very...bad
probably should
It wasn’t well thought-out
But anyway, I’m not one to just exaggerate what a Sangheili is capable of, but in some instances there should be some consideration
Their double circulatory system almost never gets brought up, despite how useful that would be. I would also love to see other uniquely reptilian traits show up
I don’t want them all to be dancing around incoming bullets or something silly, but they’re still a Species much better equipped for war than humans are
@gilded mason wasn’t Arbiter part of a Royal bloodline?
Don't they have self regulated bodysuits to maintain optimal temperature? I think that's what I have read before.
Yeah
Also makes it feel like a second skin, because it’s so comfortable
Only some Gen 2 and SPI start to get more uncomfortable for prolonged use
I was about to say that, but you absolutely beat me to it. You're correct, they have gotten more comfortable over development
Don’t recall somethin’ like that
I think I recall it, I beleive it was mentioned somewhere.
Or a "higher up bloodline"
Born of Noble blood
I don't think it was royal but it was well known
In the terminals
An aristocracy
Bingo, thank ya sir/maam
Lol
Uh, yeah probably a powerful family Line. But isn’t the Kaidon a King-equivalent?
And he’s now a Kaidon, right? Or is he just wearing Kaidon-like armor
If true, then I suppose their power structure is more of a meritocracy, to a limited degree
Probably still have to be from a high-status family
Arbiter was a title of power, then turned to a title of shame, and I think its back to a title of noble power after the prophets were taken down.
I think he's still just arbiter, I don't think they have a kaidon as is.
So, not the highest of bloodline, but still high
I wonder what “perfect” genetics would look like for an Elite
Xytan-like height probably
10 feet tall, perhaps a certain pigmentation/eye colour? Idk
just searched him up and what on earth how is he 11 feet tall
Good genes lol
thel must be a gnome or something
Plenty of aristocracy family lines today are taller than normal people
Live longer etc
Look at Christopher Lee, he was 6’5. Many reach 7 feet, can live up to 105 without a wheel chair or cane
Weird stuff
Dude he's 2.1x taller than me, thats dumb
He’s not 11 feet tall
says on the wiki xytan is 11 feet 7 inches
Hes not to much taler than the cheif though on 2 and 3...
Oh, thought you were talking about thel
Oh, I thought the same haha, still though.
There have been other Elites as tall as him before
Chief fought a 10-ish feet one on First Strike
The Elites in Halo 5 are around that Big, too
Look at them next to Palmer or Blue Team
Yea, he could take them down in 5 because they were so clunky and clutzy :p
I wouldn't say that big, 3 feet or so taller than master chief?
Yeah, they’re huge
See for yourself. I might try looking
might need to find a photo of them, never even noticed
They’re Giants. It might explain why they’re so slow
They even make them out as slow in BTS, the body actors
Yea, but they are also... mmmm
Elites used to be so aglie, strong, swift
now they chonke
They’re also a different subspecies. Maybe they’re just.. not as equipped for speed
Has it been confirmed they were a subspecies?
Yeah
I’m pretty sure. I know the Jackals are
Well yea, but I don't think the redesigned elites are subspecies. 343 COULD make them to be one in Infinite so they don't have to drop them.
Phenotype works better. I can imagine they may have come from the Moons of Sangheilios
Perhaps, I'm still a bit skeptical but that could absolutely explain it.
Perhaps with lower gravity, lower temperatures as well. That would explain their larger and slower nature
Needing to absorb more heat
People just want to look for canonical reasons but at the end of the day, it’s not explained
Think the differences have been explained to be similar to various human skin tones and other differences
I don’t think it needs to be, but you can make some fun explanations on occasion
This makes sense. I can imagine they’re more like Icelandic strongmen, compared to the regular elites
I think they could make them into a subspecies if they really wanted to try mixing the original thin bois with the new designs. Could be used for heavier weaponry, stronger forces, special objectives- especially sense the brutes and elites are still separated, they can fill in a new role.
Sure. Dual wielding weapons ordinary elites don’t
Like plasma repeaters or something, that’d be fun
I mean the issue is that they were going to have arbiter look like he did in old games, but then ended up just making him look like the new design which makes no sense if its a phenotype thing, so I'm guessing how thel looks in halo 5 will be retconned kind of?
So it was never canon?
They might do a mix like they did with Chief's mix of styles in Infinite.
Lol, even when it was released
Canon wise he and those in the SOS look as they did in h2A
LOL, have you noticed the size difference between in-game Arbiter and H2A Locke arbiter
They’re like completely different people
Same thing with the backflash in 4, showing the new spartan II's at the time with the redesigned armor even though chief was the only one that actually got his armor changed to look that way, budget, time constraint, etc Technically that's non cannon, and they explained why.
Locke is like 6’10 right
I think he’s the same height as chief
Mhm
I really like the glowing visors in the H2A cutscene
Is a nice touch
I’m surprised they didn’t go that route
It’d be awesome if they added it as a customization option in infinite to have emissive visors
Indeed, heck add the Silent Shadows one too for Sangheili players
5 would have done a lot better if Cortana was swapped with Mendicant
Oh man, the glowing visors... Good stuff.
And if you diddnt have to fight the same boy 7 times
Not really no, at the end Mendicant was wanting to atone
Having him be thre villain doesn't work
So true
Ye
One could try to argue a whole different shard, or perhaps Offensive Bias going off his rocker and attempting it. Both those would come off as shoehorned in
You replace Cortana with Mendicant Bias. Locke is, instead of Infinity’s hitman-puppet guy, strictly apart of an occult segment of ONI. They worship Mendicant, and have know about him for a long time
ONI is in a proxy war with these weirdos
He’s something of a Spartan, but not exactly
I agree Chimera
He has weird Deus Ex psychic abilities for interesting gameplay options
What the...?
His team never speak
That sounds less ambitious and more... well, not sure how to describe it
Like a monster-fueled fever dream
They worship certain Forerunner AI and harness a primitive degree of neural physics
But still potent
I mean....I could see a covenant group worshipping Mendicant ironically. But not humans
What would medicant’s motivations even be?
It would be like Metal Gear level trippy
Lol, the covenant locked up MB in the key ship
