As soon as Bungie was bought by Microsoft back in the late 90s, Microsoft had ownership of the IP. And yeah, Bungie wanted out from being under Microsoft post Halo 3. Plus, when you look at what Bungie did in Reach and then Destiny, it's pretty clear that the armour abilities of Reach are a precursor to the abilities we see players having in Destiny, and something tells me that people likely wouldn't want to play a version of Halo where we have space magic and rarity tiers for our weapons which we gain via a looter-shooter type system

Fanboyism and toxic bias with 343/Halo Studios, completely silly if you ask me. That’s like asking George Lucas to come back to Star Wars even though he said he was done with it and wants to do other things with his life. This is the unfortunate fan problem with Halo and Star Wars fans, they live on that nostalgia and toxic bias because they don’t want others to have fun besides themselves. I remember when they did an update to MCC and the guardians stopped working. For 6 months. You could just go all the way to the edge of snowbound / sandtrap in matchmaking which was fun
