There should be some plasma pistols or those burst carbine thingies around, they’ll help tear down his shields, then find a Needler and use that when the shields are down.

Needler bursts are hella potent against every enemy in game, especially bosses and hunters.

If you can’t find a Needler, a kinetic weapon like the BR, mangler, or Commando will work, tho it will take more work to take your opposition down.

All in all this could just be a skill issue on my part

The Flood is basically a retelling of Halo:CE but in a book. Though they also add in extra stuff that is not part of the game like Alpha Base. Which was the main base for the UNSC on Halo.

Besides regular marines, The Flood also shows that the Pillar of Autumn also had a compliment of ODST's.

I've finally nailed down why I enjoy Reach Firefight above all other game modes and Halo games.

It's Intense
On a level I've not seen with any other Halo game. You truly feel like a Spartan III fighting off waves of endless Covenant especially if you tweak the wave numbers

Sprint is an essential component. Before it, you kinda casually walked around, not really in too much of a rush. Gods how I wish we got a remastered Reach.

This is why I'm doing something as tedious as learning how to mod it so I can create firefight modes on different maps and tweaked settings. Import the Reach LMG, check out what other modders have managed to do like using invisible custom turrets to create peek and shoot points on walls and see if i can replicate it

We did get a remastered Reach, MCC runs at higher resolutions and framerates and features added content in forge and customisation.

I prefer to try and get the gameplay close to the lore. The covenant are such a threat because of their numbers, and ofc their ship technology

The first thing that made me want to mod Reach was feeling like there aren't enough Covenant troops around, and that the guns didn't feel punchy enough (which is intentional in the games design for balance purposes). They probably did that becauae large amounts of NPC's on the map taxes the engine more

The Reach XL mod basically quadruples all the spawns and you can see the individual AI struggle more to do things. So I hope to find a sweet spot

If you want the gameplay to much up with the lore, you'll be displeased with all of the options. None of them line up,

Marines would die from glancing plasma shots if you tried to make it lore accurate

I'm happy getting it as close as it can be without gutting the core gameplay, being able to use evade + sprint together, guns having much less bloom when stood still and especialyl crouching, while jumping, moving and reloading makes bloom go higher as it should do. Being able to peek around corners like the Spartan AI's do, melee attacks being more impactful, Covenant firing their weapons at a considerably higher rate of fire (at the deault rate they kinda go "pew pew" when the player can full blown empty the clips)

You can adjust the behaviour of AI so I will be able to make marines more defensive fire from cover, while being vulnerable to getting hit and killed by plasma bolts

I can also make the AI less accurate with the individual shots, but firing more of them. More colors and death flying through the air but not pinpoint AI levels of accuracy

In the current Firefight mode I use as a test bed for some of these changes the AI fires plasma pistols like a borderline SMG

The core philosophy I will always keep, inspired by Bungie's philosophy back in the Halo days, being FUN comes first

This is the closest thing I have uploaded that shows what I want it to look like, but a lot of things can't be tweaked in the EAC version of MCC, so for example I can't enable third person, can't edit bloom, can't edit AI behaviour. But it's the best mode to have some fun with so public players can join, until I've built up enough of a group to arrange non EAC games with

Well like I said, new players should play on Normal, and normal on reach isn't that difficult. Technically if someone wanted to play the games via timeline they would need to start on Halo Wars.

Until we get another game that is earlier down the line, Halo Wars is the earliest.

Yeah I can't get why there are those who hate Reach. It's got a good campaign and multiplayer. Also Bungie has done what they could to make Reach fit in with the timeline for the Fall of Reach book as there was a month window.

It's mainly because a lot of the things about Halo's formula were different with Reach. Better imho, but different. So some of the fanbase didn't like it being different after 3 consistent games and their combat and map design.

And, as you mention, the lore changes. I prefer the idea of Reach taking a month to fully conquer, It was the strongest fortress Humanity had to offer, after all. Second only to Earth and bearing in mind by the tiem Earth got attacked the vast majority of the UNSC fleet was gone. Not the case with Reach, space battles too big to put into the game happened above us while we played that game

But Reach gave us Spartans that truly felt immersive to play. They could sprint, they had shields AND health. They operated in squads with different specializations each, and did a much, much better job of conveying the horror of the Human-Covenant war. Most people tend to kind of ignore the fact Humanity went from 800+ colonies to a few outposts and Earth in 30 years
