What's the best halo game?

Because in my opinion it's 2 or infinite bc those 2 are really fun for me

I played 2 on the original Xbox because my uncle had one so I fell in love and in 2014 my mom got me halo mcc for my 7th birthday so I fell in love with the game more and then in 2015 my mom bought me halo 5 and I loved it then in 2021 I got infinite when it barely came out

While there are a few things off I do find it to be more accurate than Halo 4's(which was considered the closest for years), It's easily become one of my favorite sets. I think both you & @obsidian wyvern are right on this: the Warhammer IP and D&D have been getting more and more exposure, but people are getting together in person less and less. Obviously there's no comprehensive survey done for this, but personal experience and documented trends in general social behaviors has shown big shifts away from frequency of in-person socializing as people discover they can commune online. This would be consistent with people engaging with the IPs, but it would probably decrease actual demand for physical pieces.

I think we’re heading towards a time when inflation and predatory marketplace practices are going to essentially kill the digital or online scene. People are leaning towards traditional trends more and more. With War and society collapse on the horizon. Physical games like the table top will become more relevant. • Online is only increasing at the expense of physical, as has been conclusively proven for years, both in sales revenue and in decision-makers' repeated statements that dlc revenue is what they're staking their targets on.
• It's not proven at all that some traditional trends being trendy (e.g. liking physical mail) is either sustainable or even relevant to specifically tabletop gaming.
• Society collapse is coming? Where is the proof that this is coming on such a broad scale and so soon that it will affect digital vs physical gaming?
• How does tabletop gaming compare in carbon footprint impact vs digital? How is this documented?

Set to butt in, but to say halo is dead, is more of a statement then a fact… halo infinite hasn’t been as dead people have said, when a game dies and you look at it. It’s not like halo infinite hadn’t been updated, just nobody’s talked about it. And Fortnite as an example has been technically “dead” for months after months following the new map, same as halo after the content drought, even after the game finally got updates and new things, nobody talked about it which made it not dead but socially dead, just a thought…

I feel like this heavily depends on which online circles you are involved in.

Like, if I primarily read/listen/watch people's viewpoints of those who don't play Halo, or console shooters or whatever related genre you want to use, then obviously it will seem 'socially dead.' For example, personally, I rarely — if ever — see activity outside the actual games of Apex and Fortnite, even though they top the charts, because I don't see social activity related to those games because I've 0 interest in them. Furthermore, because there are so many big multiplayer games out now, I don't think it's crazy that Halo doesn't take up as much 'space' as it used to back in the OG and 360 Xbox days.

the industry is far too competitive to have the luxury of picking and choosing

most job applications will be getting hundreds, if not thousands of applicants - especially for larger studios

it's part of what lets companies like (though certainly not limited to) Blizzard and Activision have fairly horrendous working environments for their developers; if you quit, there's a thousand people just as good as you who would kill to be in your position

at least personally, the past few years have totally put me off ever working in AAA environments - the stress isn't worth it

depends on what subject interests you really - programming, 3D art, concept art, animation, and design are all vastly different disciplines

as a fairly generic advice though, it's never been easier to pick up the tools to learn games development in your own time. Unreal Engine and Unity are both free to download and install and tutorials are aplenty on YouTube, and Blender is also free if you're interested in 3D art and animation

if you're interested in level design, make levels in map editors like Forge or Doom or whatever other game tools exist out there. They'll let you build levels and demonstrate your understanding of game mechanics in an environment where the gameplay is already setup and not something you need to worry about

when recruiters are looking at two candidates, the guy who has projects done in their spare time as a result of passion and the guy who only has whatever his university course mandated he do will be a night-and-day difference

games dev roles are all about your portfolio of work, so you want a strong body of work that the recruitment staff can look at, and the best way to get that is through practice - same as any other skill or hobby

the main avenue I saw for internships (I never did one myself) was people taking a year out after their second year of university to do an internship, and coming back after that year to finish their degree - but I'm also in the UK so YMMV

Anecdotal, but I've connections that graduated from higher ranked universities, but because they didn't partake in an internship, struggled to find relevant work afterwards. the good thing about doing coding is that it's a fairly universal skill, and there's always programming jobs outside of the games sector. the only specialisation i would say is actively harmful to pursue is games design, as it's a role that doesn't really have skills that are super transferrable if you can't make it into the games industry. code, 3D, illustration, audio, and animation can all find a lot of use in other industries and applications

Programming teams will build the tools and backend required to make things work, but it's designers that think about gameplay interactions and do things like balancing or level layouts or enemy placements. In a smaller studio, you might be wearing both hats at once

computer science will give you a great understanding of programming for sure, but not how it works with games specifically. it might get you somewhere, but if you're really passionate about game design as a career specifically, i'd consider looking for a game design specific course if possible.

when i was applying this year, the courses i listed for my application were game design, forensic computing/cybersec, comp sci, digital media, film production, and creative & professional writing.

when i was picking the offer i'd accept, i thought about three things: 1) how useful/transferrable would the skills earned be, 2) how likely could i get the skills for this course through personal projects alone, 3) how important is the degree itself to get a career in this subject. i think its important for applicants to think about what happens after - if you dont have the chance to jump straight into the career you want, could you make ends meet using these skills? could you use them in another industry or role? is the debt worth it if you're capable of learning to do these things in your own time?

Kidding aside, it really is just subjective value. If you have less disposable income but more disposable time, you can spent more time to save money. You my friend described my exact feelings about it. One of the guys I saw it with said it was one of the best movies he's ever seen. I was like what.

But it was worth the relationship plot to see some of the most famous battles in history depicted in such an amazing way. And I do admit the relationship stuff was well acted, down to perfect facial ticks and expressions.

the hammer was always consistent for me during S3. after that, during S4 and s5, it's been pretty inconsistent despite being on <8 ping

It happens to me not just in Infinite but also in MCC that I shoot at a infected in Infection from a very close range enough to kill them, but the Shotgun/Bulldog does nothing to them, they swing their sword and I die
