because of shoulders (eventually) going multitcore, I have to wonder if there will ever be other plans for multicore items. Wrist, Utility, knees, gloves and helmet attachments all have potential, since most of those are just items attached to a spot and not dependent on armor shape. It's because of this that I don't see chests ever going multi except a few exceptions (Like the Mk.V[B]'s T-Mags, which is just 3 magazine pouches).

How do you quanitfy importance for what's considered next? And furthermore, is there ever going to be a UI change for the armor hall? Having to sift through all the options on a horizontal bar is getting tiresome.

The horizontal bar made sense when cores were insular, but its gonna get truly tedious when shoulders come.

I think a UI revamp is needed now more than ever.

if at least just for the customizatoin screen. I won't claim to know how difficult it is to get something like that together, but it's becoming increasingly necessary.

"Well, why don't you just use the filter system?" Because when customizing a core, scrolling through all the options can often lead to ideas or setups I wouldn't normally consider, so I don't use the Favorite's filter in case inspiration strikes me.

This argument falls apart because they changed up placement for various UI elements to be easier, including changing the mutliplayer and main menus screens. They can't monetize that, so I don't know about that one chief.

I would agree with you that exploration as a *complimentary * game mechanic isnt bad. It is good, and part of what has made Halo so engaging in the past.

However, to better state what I said before I believe Halo is not *primarily * an exploration game. Having the fundamental mechanic of the game be exploration was what hurt this game. In previous games where I considered the exploration to be well balanced (2 and 3) there was alot to explore and it was really fun to go find all the little secrets, but at the end of the day the action, the fighting, and the fighting mechanics were what kept the engagement high.

It's the vastness and richness of the Halo universe that open the possibility for great exploration, but that's not entirely compatible with the FPS genre

Halo is in a position where the universe created is engaging and exciting (more so that competitors in the FPS world) enough to the point where I want to explore the lore side of things.

However that doesn't translate to creating a large space for physical exploration. I think future Halo games would be better served in moving to a pseudo-linear single level design, as opposed to open world. Even though open-world is very popular now.

Either way, I am happy with Infinite . Even when you account for the tedium of physically moving through the open world. I know it got alot of backlash on release, but (now having finished the game) I believe that was, in part, due to hyper-criticality from the longtime existing players. I was certainly in that group myself. Chief and the weapon were both written so well, I loved it. His character was right back to where he needed to be. And although the story itself had a sad ending, it was done well. And with respect for the history of the universe and the characters.

Agreed, I enjoyed Infinite's campaign gameplay a lot. The fights between the marines and Banished gave a sense of dynamism to the combat that I appreciated, and the open levels allowed increased agency to try certain tactics. My issue isn't open exploration, my issue is that the world is too bland and homogenous, with no enticement to discover things through player interest, rather than just ticking a checkbox.

If 343 had another stab at an open world game, I think the feedback they could potentially take on board and implement could make for a highly interesting game.

I actually really enjoyed the level design when it came to the specific mission levels. They were a bit short, but I assume that was because they were meant to be between the open world portions.

If they had focused more on those, in terms of making them more complex, longer in length, and more geared towards balancing/challenging the 4 abilities chief is given, that would of ended up being a real strong game level-design wise.

I could even see an open world of this style where the open world is minimized and the individual missions are maximized.

I think Infinite would have benefitted from something Halo CE did
CE's campaign was no stranger to copy pasted level designs, in fact, some missions were backtracking previous missions. But CE did things to make them feel different
Two Betrayals is Assault on The Control Room backwards, but with the skybox changed to nighttime, and with Flood now instead of Covenant
Simple things like changing the enemy encounters for your second visit and doing some light changes helps a lot. Not to mention in CE when you backtrack, you often visit places you haven't visited before, like the engine room at The Maw
