you can use the same keys to generate 2 factor codes on as many devices as you like

arguable whether you want your secret keys (the keys used to generate the codes) to be accessible after you put them into an app or not though

the app i use on my iphone doesnt let you see the keys for example, and has no backup options

so you could only replicate them with an encypted backup of your entire phone

basically when you scan the QR code using your authenticator app, its just reading the secret key to generate the codes. you can put that secret key into as many authenticator apps as you like and it will generate the same code

technically you want just one way of generating a code and a backup code to use if you lose the device that then lets you override the requirement one time

but its not really reasonable hence authenticators with cloud backup and such

and even generating keys in the same program as you store your passwords (password manager)

its all a balance of security over convenience. losing access to all your accounts due to 2FA is a real risk

Why did Microsoft only made some OG Xbox and 360 games backwards compatible with newer consoles instead of all of them?
Theoretically, the whole libraries can be ported over, right? So why not?
